      You can use organic compost, I have already made a video on it. What you are using should not be used raw in the aquarium. This will significantly increase the level of ammonia in the tank and the plants will melt and die due to this. You can also follow this video and use a mixture of topsoil and organic compost in your tank.

    Big help thankyou❤. Very well explained. I make my own aquarium soils but I still have alot to learn. Part of my problem is I use a potting mix as the compost element shown here. It is not so fine and is basically decomposed wood mulch which is not really possible to filter as you would lose half of it. I think I need to learn how to compost this fine material. Looks great.

      Literally ! no joke, he just made my planted aquarium dream possible, Suggesting only the best and most costly things is the easiest thing in the world, while using available things to do the same work is truly difficult, that's why he is truly one of the top knowledgeable aquarists on youtube, May God bless him, for making the dream of so many people possible.
      TH-cam's algorithm truly sucks, that it suggests after a few good videos only crap content and not channels like him, I barely see his content in my feed even after watching his videos day and night.

    • @madebykm
      @madebykm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can grow grass in this soil very easily, all types of grasses need nutrient-rich substrate to grow properly and this soil is full of essential nutrients required for plants. These plants need moderate lighting and if you provide extra CO2, it will grow faster and healthier. Thank you.

    As an amateur gardener, I say that your end-product is some NICE looking soil! Unfortunately, not everyone has that type in their garden. Our lawn is extremely clay-ee, but the raised beds are very dark and dense. I wonder if coir-blocks can be used? The stuff that you add water to and gets fluffy, then used for seedlings, etc.

    • @madebykm

      Thank you, you can mix either vermicompost or pure organic compost (without neem) with the soil. But you can’t use only compost in aquarium in place of soil, as it is a fertilizer. Thus, compost should be mixed with the soil in very small quantities.

    Okay so I have prepared the soil for my 17 gallon tank. I am going to plant jungle vals and marsilea hirsuta without adding any fish for the first month. How often should I change the water if I want to avoid algea and stuff. Would like some suggestions.

    • @madebykm
      @madebykm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      50% of the aquarium water should be changed 3-4 times in the first 2 weeks after setting up the aquarium. Then gradually reduce the frequency of these water changes over the following weeks and change the water to 50% once a week. Along with this, using a very good quality filter is also very important and CO2 should be provided from day one of setting up the aquarium.
