I love how Nen is an extension of the users personality, so often characters can’t “copy” abilities, their abilities develop & strengthen based on individual passion, eg. How specialists can only get their abilities through genetics/special circumstances that borne their abilities such as Neon’s internal desire to want to predict the future, or Kurapika’s internal desire to want to become stronger at a faster rate which caused their powers to manifest soundly
If you read the manga, you'd see that in spite of them being an extension of personal experience, the power system is so well designed that someone can in-fact use the Hatsu of other people if they have a good enough understanding of nen and how that ability works, and even developed their own variation of it from scratch. This makes me believe that if a power system like that existed in our world, we would see a lot of "fashion" of abilities. For example someone might create a wing powers, another modify it to be more effective and efficient, and then people who want their power to be flight, would just try to copy and learn this ability (basically instead of trying to create their own variation they would just spend a year trying to make the exast same ability that is proven efficient), so we would end up with a lot of the same abilities, just how clothing nowadays work.

Just one thing to note is that "Nen Restrictions or Nen Limitations" are NOT specific to conjurers. Any Nen user can create this as long as their will is strong enough. For example Kurapika's chains are OP against Spiders but weak to everyone else.
@@jordanpatterson8536 Personally I think other than specialist. The most OP Nen Category has to be Enhancers. Having Extreme Speed, Strength and Stamina would beat most people in the verse. Imagine Uvogin with Nen Limitations.
Killua's electricity might be an exception; it might be visible to non Nen users too. Real electricity is also basically invisible, and the electrical sparks we see come from the surrounding air interacting with the electricity. So non Nen users might also be able to see the sparks of superheated air when Killua uses his ability, which I thought was a cool, possible exception.
Nope, any nen user should be able to see Killua's Lightning as long as In isn't being applied to his Aura. Any non-nen user would be unable to see the lightning.
@@mixstardust429 OP was saying that the light you see from lightning is a byproduct of electricity passing through air. So like if you had an invisible hand in water the water would make the shape of the hand and expand but the hand itself isn’t visible.
Every nen type can impose conditions on themselves to enhance their nen. This is the reason Gon was able to age himself to his peak; he was willing to throw every bit of nen he would ever have at Pitou... this is a self-imposed condition that turned him into a demi-god for like, 10 minutes.
Just letting you know that Hisoka’s bungee gum has the properties of rubber and gum Also Franklin is an emitter not a conjurer and Nen limitations are not limited to conjurers, anyone can use them (Chrollo, Uvogin, Pitou all have restrictions on some their abilities)

Nen was hard to understand because of how it was explained differently by different characters, with very contradictory statements based on how they were trained. Basically, some characters either lied or didn't know how to tutor shit...lol much like Aizen's true goal(Ichigo and Urahara drawing different conclusions in the end was meant to leave things open ended, yet fans believe he was lonely solely based on Ichigo's hunch), so knowing when a character is just as clueless as the reader is important when you're reading manga. Well explained video! Keep them coming.
the only real differences, are nen affinity and their own hatsu. other then that, the principles and how they are learnt are all the same. biggest problem with nen is that it's foundational information is pretty huge, but once you have that foundation. you should be able to understand anything involving nen in hxh.
@@jmc2830 not their affinities that's the issue. It's how they explain the whole system from person to person. I do understand the whole concept, but that's the reason why I can see the confusion that some people face. @@revenantronin8377 ... every conjurer, every enhancer, every transmuter, every emitter. they all work under the same rules, it's not like every 2 emitters or transmuters are completely different. they use the same principles even if their hatsu are vastly different. the only wild card is specialist. and since that's the case, it's a bit like paramecia devil fruits in one piece. if it doesn't fit into the easily established groups, it's going to be specialist. which makes it easy to differentiate them from the more clear nen classifications. that's why the nen ring exists.. to show that 5 times out of 6 nen users are pretty easy to understand and classify. people like to over complicate it for nerd points, make out like their interest is deeper then it actually is. hunter x hunter fans are the worst for this since hxh is pretty high tier anime/manga but is admittedly niche even within the anime/manga community. so acting like it's this incomprehensible thing makes the fact that it's never going to be as popular as naruto or one piece a little easier on the fans.
I've heard people saying before that this is the best power system in shonen, and I finally understand why now. It's so simple in theory, yet it has so much depth to it, and I love that you can just tailor fit your abilities to be what YOU want them to be, instead of them being decided from birth or whatever. It's just so neat, and the possibilities are endless.

Kurapika's chains aren't useless/unusable against people who aren't the Phantom Troupe. It's only his chain jail, which forces the target into a state of Zetsu and binds them, like with Uvogin, like with Chrollo, that is. All of his other chains and nen abilities can be used against literally everyone else. Like his Judgement Chain, which he used on himself no less. He's not a member of the troupe - wouldn't be able to do that if it was limited to troupe members. Chrollo's ability isn't to copy/create other people's abilities, or anything else you said, it's literally to TAKE them after fulfilling certain conditions. That's why Neon couldn't use Lovely Ghost Writer anymore after Chrollo took it, and why he couldn't use it any longer after her (implied) death. And why he couldn't take Zeno Zoldyck or Silva's abilities when fighting them in the same arc.
@@amai-w8fbruhhh. He NEEDS to use Emperor Time to use his chain ability's ability. Emperor Time is an ability to make him 100% perpetient to all nen types. I just love the beauty and range of nen abilities, I love how Togashi worked from the basics and built the best power system i have ever seen in all of anime
Finally, because every time I watched HxH, they explained it, but it was kinda hard to grasp because it seems like they didn't stick to explanations provided.
Probably because they don’t fully. Togashi was better with someone reigning him in, imo. YuYu Hakusho is way better than HxH as far as I’m concerned, because it’s not all ass-pulls. It’s far more consistent. Like Hell, Nen gets introduced so late because Togashi hasn’t thought of it when he started the series, so Killua’s transformation (claws) had to be retconned as unconscious Nen use or something. Also, why did the family of assassins who all use Nen, not teach Killua about it? Why not use every advantage they can get? It’s stupid.
@Paradox8493 You make a good point, Nen was mentioned like halfway, but ended up being massively important. Also, Killian should of had first hand knowledge of nen, considering it was the bread and butter of the family business. Now that you mentioned it, if it was such a common thing, what about the Hunter Exams? Shouldn't of that been a requirement for a license?
Should note that Kurapika can use most of his chains on anyone, the only chain exclusive to the phantom troupe is chain jail. He explains it in the show.
This might be your most ambitious video so far, Naruto or not. It actually made me understand way more than you would expect to be honest. I don't really think Naruto copied HxH as much as the fact both are deeply based on Asian mythology/theology concepts of spirits and affinity. I really do appreciate this and I actually wish you covered other anime (maybe older ones like Rurouni Kenshin, Evangelion, etc) but I understand it affects viewership and ad rev.
30:25 Correction, shoot did not cover his other eye to make a condition to become stronger, it was narrated that he just felt like covering his eyes for no reason, just in the heat of the moment...
Very good explanation, a few nit picky things. I see some have stated them already but I haven't seen is kurapika can use his chains on other people. It's his chain jail is only towards spiders. His other abilities can be used on others.
One small correction that I haven't really seen covered by anyone else here, IN is not completely invincible, it can in fact be seen by someone using gyo on their eyes. A very early example of this is both of Hisoka's fights in the Heaven's Arena tower. In both fights he used In to make his bungee gum invisible, and gyo was used to reveal this on the video recording as a test for Wing's students.
No, only 2 of Kurapika's chains can be used against the spider gang. Those chains are the one used for Chain Jail, and the other is for Judgment Chain.
Speaking of JJK. I find it amazing that Gege's Curse System is inspired from Togashi's Nen System. The Nen System is probably one of IF not the best magic system/s in the world of manga and anime.
Question, remember at the market when Gon and Kilua where looking at goods to sell at a profit to make enough money to get a greed island consul, they found good stuff by looking at which items had nen in them, would Blinky be able to suck those up?
I believe yes. Those are real items enhanced with nen (with shuu or something I think). It was explained that very high level professionals/artisans develop nen without them knowing, their nen makes their performance/crafted items higher quality than normal.
I love how nen is both a power structure and enneagram. Many stories fail at giving characters unique voices, I feel like Togashi interwove personality and power in part to flex his writing skills.
When watching Hunterxhunter I was so confused during the first episodes. I really did think it was about fishing or conventional hunting, but they were all just running. My main motivation was finding Gon's dad so he could give him a whopping. Man was there loads of sidequests. Also I totally fell asleep for alot of episodes because of longwinded explinations
One thing I'm still confused about. Is why are they called hunters anyways. What are they hunting? I watched the entirety of the anime and I still don't know. Or maybe I missed something. Idk
Nen was such a fascinating power system when I watched Hunter x Hunter. would appreciate an explanation of how Gon got his full Nen powers. it was really crazy
Gon achieved that because as Killua stated, his adult version got that incredible power if he trains regularly until his adulthood. Gon did a nen conditions where he sacrifice his incredible potential as a powerful nen user someday and its even put his life on danger. Just like Shalnark autopilot, its just temporary boost and have a dangerous after effect to the user.
Just getting into this channel recently, and I'm absolutely thrilled to know HxH is your favourite anime. I resonate so much with that, there's no other anime like it no matter what they say
Well unfortunately I didn't really learn anything new here. You did mostly cover the basics. But I do feel some of your info is off. For example referring to Kurapika's chains as being only made for the Spiders. Only Chain Jail is exclusively used on the Troupe. Likewise I doubt he could continue to make any further abilities as he has already stretched the limits of his potential and he doesn't have the same scope as Gon and Killua. Take Chrollo as you mentioned in regards to bypassing restrictions. He did so by applying more unknown limitations to Skill Hunter in order to develop that Bookmark. You did a fine job explaining things. But Naruto seems more your bread and butter. This explanation felt more like reading the wiki article on Nen. I mean no offense in saying this. As I very much enjoy your content. This just didn't feel as natural to you. As if you were not as sure of the info you had.
By limits of his potential why do I feel you're thinking of Kastro's "memory overload" death? Kurapika (and anyone for that matter) could make as many abilities as they so desire. But it may not make sense to do so. After all, Kurapika's goals are twofold: finding his clan's eyes (dowsing chain) and destroying the spiders. If he wanted he could make more abilities but considering how he shortcutted his way to power in the first place, he may not deign to do so. Also Kastro died because he focused more on summoning another clone as opposed to just using gyo so there's not really a hard limit on nen abilities unless the user themselves makes a condition like that
@@Whodjathink It's not about Kastro. But simply the limits of Aura potential. Like how Gon and Killua have potential seen in 1 in 10 million. Kurapika doesn't have that same potential by his own admission. Kastro shows the limits of your inate potential and how far is spreads though and why forcing it into a class you are opposing to ruins your overall growth. You can see how far Gon's was for example when he sacrificed everything to temporarily access his full potential right then. Kurapika has created so many nen abilities as such I feel that with his smaller potential. He likely does not have the room of growth to make any more than he already has.
@@johnsmith5922 Then that room for growth is more tied to his personality than "potential." Potential only really showed us how fast one can learn nen. Kurapika doesn't train nearly as much as Gon or Killua does and its because he feels he can't afford to. Kurapika does himself a disservice by being more focused on his goal than on himself, as evidenced by his own abilities, Izunavi was partially right when he said "It seems to me YOU'RE the one bound in chains"
@@Whodjathink I do get your point. But I feel that what your saying only furthers my point. His singular drive is what helped push him to learn his nen abilities as fast as he can. Even the flashback to the development of the Steal Chain brings about the fact that Izunavi was pressing him on how he developed that chain. At least to me it feels like it was guiding him due to a limit of how many he could make. The fact he made as many as he did should also suggest a limit since if he had more room for growth with his drive. He would have made even more abilities. Since he clearly had another idea he wanted to use instead of the Steal Chain. I think he made the limit he realistically could within that 6 months before he threw himself at the Troupe.
@@johnsmith5922 You're not wrong, since he wanted that one mafia mission before he learned nen. So I feel it's less to do with "potential" and more to do with use of time. In this case it's very similar to Kastro. His clone wasn't actually a bad idea, but given he only had 2 years to get himself up to Hisoka(who was already a monster in his own right) he "wasted his talent and effort" in doing something outside of his field of expertise. Like if I was a barbecue chef and suddenly decided I wanted to make a delicious sushi for a food competition in 2 months, my time would have been better spent perfecting my own craft before I branched out. Kurapika's use of chains is the same. He wanted(or felt he needed) that power ASAP, which is why his conditions are so strict in the first place. You may be right in that he learns slower than Gon and Killua(since Kurapika also didn't want to listen to his own trainer unless it benefited him lol) but his insistence on quick power is what made him do what he did. I feel if Kurapika wanted, he could make another set of chains on his left hand, but since Conjurers have to really think about the powers they give their items, he really wouldn't have had the free time to do so, since he's almost always on the hunt
One of the many reasons why Nen is so amazing is unlike other anime that constantly breaks rules or invents new rules to suit a power up and then is actually making you stronger the more restrictions you put on yourself or trade to become more powerful. Kurapika does both of these things by becoming almost unbeatable to the phantom troop because of his conditions and trades his own life for a power boost like emperor time that makes him incredibly challenging to beat but not technically unbeatable. A lot of anime power is only limited by a body which is usually already superhumanly strong like a super Saiyan but even then there are limits that can be brokenlike super sayian 2 and 3, and you look at something like Naruto where technically there are rules and limitations to jutsu's but often these can either be broken or ignored. Mastery is also not very important because you could be a master of a jutsu and just be our class with people with God like abilities like a tailed beast. The classic example is Rock Lee while he is a badass no matter how strong he gets he will never defeat Naruto. Furthermore, while you can learn from other people you are also stronger when when you have an individual personality that creates something unique to you which is not great for you know a Harry Potter or Naruto effect where you want to immerse yourself into the world necessarily, but makes characters stronger and more distinct, and often the more creative you are the more powerful you are for example hisoka is not particularly strong in the world of HunterxHunter there are several characters who could easily kill him, but his creativity is why he's so dangerous.
Thank you for making that video it was really interesting !! I just finished HxH and im such a fan. Im so glad you make videos about them bc i truly enjoy the way you explain things
Since I have never seen Hunter X Hunter I can't say this would be something in the system but I think your Nen ability would be a Specialist. Specifically you would be able to expand your mind to see all possibilities calculate the best move and act in less time it would take for your opponent to act. To focus it you would wear a Veil or Blind Fold to prevent you from using your eyes limited perceptions from blocking out important data. This peculiar ability would also have made you the youngest Nen user since it manifested when you were not even born yet. In your younger years you were seen as the prodigy of prodigies being able to take up any task with out so much as needing to learn or train in it. But on your 14th birthday a tragedy had occurred in trying to save a child from a run away car the car had deviated from what you predicted and killed your entire family. With your Father, Mother, Brother, and two Sisters all dead you faded from society in despair. Until your late 30s where your true story begins....................................................................
Thank you for doing this 😂 I love Nen! And your videos. I clicked so fast LMAO Edit: more Nen coverage!! & You'd probably be a conjurer maybe? You explain big concepts well so I'd say you're analytical lol
Already know how nen works but always nice to hear other ppl talk about. HxH is so good people always sleep on it and when I tell them to watch it they agree that it’s one of the best these seen. Also nen is one of the if not the best concept in terms of power systems I think.
One of my favorite things about nen is that even if you have little aura, you can put a ton of conditions on your hatsu and make any ability. But if you have a lot of aura you can make your ability with few conditions. Essentially, the more nen you have the less balanced your hatsu is
For example kurapika: who probably has an average amount of nen, so he places insane additions onto His ability, such as every second emperor time is activated he loses an hour of his life Vs Uvogin, who has a ridiculous amount of aura. So he can basically punch with the force of a small nuke. with only the simple condition that he can only do it with a right straight punch
17:34: Common Myth that you fell for, mate. Leoreo isnt opening a Portal and punching through it: It's all a bit fast but if you actually look at it, he definetly and surely created a Nen-Beast. An arm-shaped and arm-coloured Nen-Beast. This many-meters-long Thing is definetly not his real arm, that's sure.
I think you're a bit off also. It's more so like he's warping a punch through a wormhole and sends the punch wherever he desires, being he's an emitter
Great video, but it’s a common misconception that Kurapika can only use his chains on the Phantom Troupe. However, he can use his chains on people and things other than the Phantom Troupe. The only ability he can’t use on anyone or anything else is Chain Jail, which binds and restricts movement
i would honestly like a video on advanced techniques. and i like how this one was explained. i hope to see it be something you consider doing. keep up the great work
One correction at the start of the video which you probably saw a lot of. Franklin is shooting nen bullets. If it's not physically (only nen) then it's emission. If it's physical then it's conjuration.
Nen gets even more complicated then even that. According to the manga and the anime there are multiple Nen disciplines. Shingen-ryu is just one of many ways of training in controlling aura. Of course we don’t know what the others are, but it’s crazy to think that Killua and Gon could have had different training if they found another Nen teacher💀
Random but I remember when I first watched Hunter Hunter and they explained Zetsu. I immediately thought of how Zetsu from Naruto was kind of the lowkey, quiet, spy for the akatsuki. Zetsu can mean to suppres in Japanese. Thought it was a cool parallel!
23:23 just so u know Chrollo IS NOT capable of altering anyone's affinity or ability concerning nen his hatsu is specifically said multiple time to recreate others hatsus for himself and deactivate them for the target of his ability effectively mimicking the stealing of a hatsu (eventhough it technically isn't(this can also make it a bit confusing cause if the person who's hatsu was "stolen" dies he loses the hatsu as well likely as the result of a condition)). Any and all alterations to the hatsu only occur once he actually already has it for himself and can then of course use nen to change it and adapt it for his fighting style as he pleases. Also Neon doesn't tell someone's entire future or past she only writes a poem that can (to a very limited degree) predict someone's short future.
on the manga. he explain that even if the owner of the ability dies. it doesnt necessarily mean that it will also vanish in bandits secret. and if the owner has some emotional baggage the ability that chrollo stolen could significantly improve . just like the sun and moon ability.
hey just wanted to note, vows, limitations and conditions can be used by any nen user on any ability and is *not* just limited to conjurors. simply, conjurors are noted as being the most likely to employ these facets of nen and tend to do it to a greater extent than other nen users bar specialists
you are my favorite channel man, I see you as a specialist. As far as your ability, I don’t feel like I know enough about your personality/experiences; but I will take a stab at it. You can turn your non-HxH tattoos (if any) into nen puppets and/or just take their abilities for yourself. I.E if you had naruto you could form a nen-fueled rasengan 🤷🏼♂️ this is anime meta
funny thing about kurapika. only 1 of his 5 chains is spider specific and that is "chain jail" which puts its target into zetsu and if used on anyone not a spider kurapika's "judgement chain" will kill him. there are 2 others that are kinda restricted. the judgement chain can not be used unless kurapika has red eyes and the one that appears only appears in the manga forces him into emperor time (i am not 100% sure this is a restriction and it could simply be an activation requirement)

@@Xznyth if he's mimicking lightning/electricity would it not still react with the air to create sparks?? just a question that kinda made sense to me

Just letting you know that Hisoka’s bungee gum has the properties of rubber and gum

The ability to use your life force for super powers.
@@Dragon66898Nice general attempt but that explanation doesn’t explain what Ren is, or Ken. It’s so many layers.
I'm pointing out how different characters explain things through their own experiences, and it's up to the viewer or reader to know what makes sense.

It’s stupid.
it kinda makes you thankful for those annoying naruto over simplifying moments after watching hxh 😂😂
@Paradox8493 You make a good point, Nen was mentioned like halfway, but ended up being massively important. Also, Killian should of had first hand knowledge of nen, considering it was the bread and butter of the family business. This might be your most ambitious video so far, Naruto or not. It actually made me understand way more than you would expect to be honest. Very good explanation, a few nit picky things. I see some have stated them already but I haven't seen is kurapika can use his chains on other people. It's his chain jail is only towards spiders. His other abilities can be used on others.
I love Hunter Hunter so please continue making more of this content!
Yeah, he didnt inform himself much.
Franklin is actually an emitter, not a conjurer
Speaking of JJK. I find it amazing that Gege's Curse System is inspired from Togashi's Nen System.
The Nen System is probably one of IF not the best magic system/s in the world of manga and anime.
Just wanted to remind you that bungee gum contains the properties of both rubber and gum
I love this system it so detailed yet open for new stuff that still follows the rules but come from unexpected places just like life.

HxH absolutely has the best power system. 10/10 agree.
Remember, bungee gum has the properties of both rubber and gum
A quick question: According to Hisoka’s personality assessment, which Nen affinity do you think you would most likely have?

Since I have never seen Hunter X Hunter I can't say this would be something in the system but I think your Nen ability would be a Specialist. Specifically you would be able to expand your mind to see all possibilities calculate the best move and act in less time it would take for your opponent to act. To focus it you would wear a Veil or Blind Fold to prevent you from using your eyes limited perceptions from blocking out important data. This peculiar ability would also have made you the youngest Nen user since it manifested when you were not even born yet.
Essentially, the more nen you have the less balanced your hatsu is
For example kurapika: who probably has an average amount of nen, so he places insane additions onto His ability, such as every second emperor time is activated he loses an hour of his life
Vs Uvogin, who has a ridiculous amount of aura. So he can basically punch with the force of a small nuke. with only the simple condition that he can only do it with a right straight punch
17:34: Common Myth that you fell for,

Great video, but it’s a common misconception that Kurapika can only use his chains on the Phantom Troupe. However, he can use his chains on people and things other than the Phantom Troupe. The only ability he can’t use on anyone or anything else is Chain Jail, which binds and restricts movement

I would greatly appreciate 24 hours worth of explanation.
This is incredibly interesting.
Loved this, definitely wanna see more HunterXHunter content! Also you’d probably be a special type with an ability similar Chrollo’s
Dips into a sensory deprivation chamber during a massive assault "oh man my techniques are going to be so strong while I'm still sane"
11:20 Lmao the hexagon explaining the nen types
Great video, I didn’t think of this but I wanted to know more.
YOU DA GOAT ANIME TH-camR
More. MORE. MOREEEE! I WANT MORE! And this video was very well made, thank you for your efforts.
hey just wanted to note, vows, limitations and conditions can be used by any nen user on any ability and is *not* just limited to conjurors. simply, conjurors are noted as being the most likely to employ these facets of nen and tend to do it to a greater extent than other nen users bar specialists
Because of you I started watching hunter hunter. Such an amazing anime and this video got me so hyped for it.
you are my favorite channel man, I see you as a specialist. As far as your ability, I don’t feel like I know enough about your personality/experiences; but I will take a stab at it. You can turn your non-HxH tattoos (if any) into nen puppets and/or just take their abilities for yourself. I.E if you had naruto you could form a nen-fueled rasengan 🤷🏼♂️
this is anime meta
I always wanted somebody to do a Nen explain video and I’m glad that you just do it because I like how you do videos and yes I am a naruto fan
Good job mate. You’ve earned my like and sub
According to Hisokas nen personality test I would be a Transmuter.
Comment what your nen affinity would be according to his test!
thank you for not spoiling (almost) anything!!
That Ex-wife Sharon shade was petty. Keep up the good work. Always Keep it petty
funny thing about kurapika. only 1 of his 5 chains is spider specific and that is "chain jail" which puts its target into zetsu and if used on anyone not a spider kurapika's "judgement chain" will kill him. there are 2 others that are kinda restricted. the judgement chain can not be used unless kurapika has red eyes and the one that appears only appears in the manga forces him into emperor time (i am not 100% sure this is a restriction and it could simply be an activation requirement)
Love the video keep up the great work nick
This was so freaking good. Can’t wait to put this on again while I’m cooking and cleaning. FIRST COMES ROCK!
Togashi is apparently the only One who encouraged 'fan-made Hatsu' and i saw
not a single HxH-TH-camr ever do so
Bless! I would love to hear more about nen, you explain these things so well ;n; Also, you give me enhancer type nen vibes
