Man as you said it in the beginning, i realised that i witnessed the same thing in a mega church (don't know how big their are in general but here in the city where i live in Germany they seem to be huge in terms of their size of the building). I visited them one time but i was amazed that they were able to have multiple stores (bible merchandise store, cafeteria with cakes etc.) But as you said, it's just like the earlier days, nothing is truly new under the sun. We are quick to judge the people from back in the days for their idolatry but don't look at ourselves today.
2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
