Got the dual piece grip and it has been a game changer. Before I was almost dreading to play because of the ergonomics, but now it's the best and most comfortable console I have ever had. 100% worth getting a grip imo
I use a grip with mine when playing certain games that I prefer using the D-Pad with so that hasn't been too much of an issue for me personally but it did bother me at first ❤
Besides the joystick placement, it's been a near perfect device for me. Runs almost all ps2/gc and even most switch games I'd wanna play. Retro games look AMAZING on the screen. It's a $220 device. Other devices cost over $100 more. RP5 is probably the best device at the price point and best value for your money. Also I like how small and powerful it is. Just feels very compact, but I get might not be for everyone, compared to the powerful but big and expensive Odin 2 + portal.
@@TechSpaceCowboy I’m going to have to agree with goomba, it feels fine to me too. I could see someone who prefers Xbox style controllers over PS style finding it uncomfortable
It’s a jack of all trades… and that’s the point. It can play tons of games from tons of platforms decently enough on the go so you’re not hauling different consoles, cartridges, discs, controllers, or other necessary AV in order to play your favorite retro games.
After the location of the DPad on the RP4 I couldn’t get myself to buy the RP5. Handheld with the power to play high end emulation with the hardware to play SNES
This is where I like anbernic consoles better because the switch that joystick and the d pad. I also like their soft better. Retroid consoles do look good, they both run well and put decent hardware, and ergo is usually close, along with materials. I just Always have preferred anbernics competing consoles that are close to retroid.
@TechSpaceCowboy I get what you mean with just reviewing the device, and I agree. But at the same time, you don't need to review add-ons to acknowledge they exist and can change the potential of a device.
true but I see his point that it would still be the jack of all trades, as something like a portal would be better if you're going to make it bulky anyway
Appreciate the revisit, mate. 👍 I feel like I'm going crazy... didn't you have some more review videos? I thought you covered the Miyoos in the past but I can't find the videos. Did you take some of your stuff down mate, or am I mistaking you for someone else?
The main thing I don’t see people talking about is the size difference. The rp5 is a bit smaller than the switch lite which is why I think people would prefer the Xbox style stick layout. If you want something that’s very portable then the rp5 but if you wont be taking it out anywhere and just want that Xbox style layout get the Odin.
Yessir, I use Beacon emulator. It’s available in the Play store and worth every penny. Lets you tell each system where your games are stored, so you don’t have to alter your file system like you do for ES-DE
I think it's a skill issue because I had no issues getting unreal in fortnight, using just this device, it's perfect, you just have to change the way you grit, the device you're trying to grip it like a control pad, it's not a control pad, it's a handheld device
Glad you’re back to making that game. “Little dude” is the character, right? I watched part of Russ’s longform review of the latest Odin yesterday. What are your thoughts on that system?
And the Switch 2 for that matter. Personally, I’m unimpressed with the Switch 2 and am holding out for Xbox’s handheld as an end-all, be-all, assuming emulation works well enough on it.
I think it looks amazing, but with switch emulation development stopped, it’s a hard sell. There’s just not a whole lot of reason I want something that expensive with the switch 2 around the corner
My biggest problem with the RP5 is not that the D-Pad is on top but that they did not move the thumb stick further in towards the screen like they did on the RP Mini, so I primarily use the RP5 to play older games that are D-Pad centric. I have an Odin 2 Mini as well which is not only more powerful than the RP5 but also has the thumb stick on top so I'll use that to play GameCube, Switch and PS3 games where the thumb stick is primarily used. I just wish the O2M had the RP5 screen - it would be my ultimate handheld.
Yeah, RP5 has always been not great for joystick games, especially dual joystick fps games, practically unplayable on RP5. If you go for RP5, just be prepared to use different hand positions for the different style of games you play, and forget about dual stick games. You can bring your left hand half way down the RP5 for single joystick, feels way better than trying to keep your hand in a normal holding position. Not perfect, but its better than cramping your thumb. 👍🏼
I think it's a skill issues i went unreal in Fortnite on this very device. I had no issues. I play all fbs games on this. I sometimes play them over playing on my gaming pc learn how to hold the hand hold properly. That's all I can say
Yeah, this ain't it. The thing I've always wanted was a PSP replacement (I own one, but it's definitely aged) and this is close, but I tried playing with my friend's and the ergonomics weren't great. I hope someone makes one along the lines of how Anbernic made the GBA clone. For you guys trying to play console games portably though (PS2, GC, etc), I don't understand you----I don't foresee a portable device ever coming along that'll compromise well between playing portable games and console games.

what grip do you use? Model from etsy?
I have a grip too it's much more comfortable and easier to navigate with a grip (especially when playing games with the D-Pad) ❤
I bought the $20 one off etsy from EpirPrintingShop
Havent recived it yet but am very excited since I have carpel tunnel and love this device

I just don’t like how grips add bulk.
It’s a double edged sword

Is there a clip-on grip for it that might help make it more comfortable?
Yeah there’s a few
It’s really subjective. For me, the ergonomics are perfect.
Impossible, even for a computer.
I think the button placement could be way more v-shaped, but other than that near perfect device and price.
Honestly, I find the ergonomics fine too. It’s more comfortable to me than a Vita for sure

Can always use a grip to change the ergonomics. Plus the screen lends itself for forgiveness of much of its short-comings.
Fair point, but I only review the device, not add-ons.
Adding grips takes away portability etc… so it just makes for a muddled review in my opinion.

I’m stuck between this and the Odin portal to replace my logitech cloud

Get both i got the odin mini and the odin 2 pro had the rp5 about a week was able to hit unreal in fortnite on the rp5 its a good a good lil device
@TechSpaceCowboy if I may ask what launcher are you currently using? Referring to the game launcher, I'm sure it's not the Retroid one. Thanks 🤗

Using the rg406h and then using the rp5... i was shocked at how bad the ergonomics are for fps controls.
Yeah:/
You need at least 2 minimum. 4:3 Dpad device and a powerful 16:9 stick up top. Oh and 20 more if you’re me 😂
You sound like my inner monologue lol
and mini?
I sold it, however now am regretting that since it’s been updated to android 13
@@TechSpaceCowboy is mini uncomfortable for ps2 too? I wanna play silent hill 3, manhunt, darkwatch, black etc with 60 fps patches

I did like that design more, but can’t deny the processor and display of this
The grips are completely worse on the 4 pro because there are none. Playing any fps games cramps without a grip

True, but in all fairness the PSP had abysmal ergonomics with that funky joystick slider and its placement
@@TechSpaceCowboy The screen is also bad. Even on the Vita, because it doesn't upscale. So still hoping for a good, modern, replacement
