My guess is that Merlin decided to hold something of a public execution in order to further Arthur's image as ruler. Bringing all those infants together, especially of the nobility, planning a mass execution it all makes it out as a grand gesture of authority. Besides, the failed naval execution of Mordred gives the character a role mirroring that of folk heroes such as Perseus and Moses.
Love to hear more about Mordred's story. I hope you cover him further in the future.

Yes. And actually there are a couple other accounts of same thing else where too. In the mahabharata there was a king who sought to destroy Krishna at birth as well.

I've read that some historians believe it's singlehandedly, that would be a miracle in itself!

The Arthurian stories are so fascinating. They're such a mishmash of pre Christian & early Christian tropes woven together in an attempt to fill in a big blank in English History by early chroniclers attempting to write everything down for posterity. Somehow I doubt there were actual knights, tournies or codes of chivalry that existed in the 5th/6th century lol.
Why did this stop??
I sometimes wonder if the Merlin and Melusiene Legends are tied together somehow.
I love this stuff. It's clearly a Christiology intended for the Empire of Britannia to produce Her Version of a Christ Lineage and Future Legacy, much like the Tolkien Body of Literature. Probably his own font for his strokes upon the Page.

It’s Sir Mordrid not Sir Mordred. All history books has his name wrong. Why would a Knight of The Round Table be given an awful name. For the Table were Knights for Christ and Peace in the Land of Britain. So all the common men and women could live in peace and love the Christ Child of Elohim. Please stop falsifying his Knighthood.
