So in NYC, old mom & pop record stores are almost gone. Back in the early 90s, I would follow my DJ friends as they spent six to eight hours in dirty old basements of record shops, flipping through the strangest, beautiful vinyls of American and foreign music from as far back as 1930s, 40s till the 70s just to get "top secret" samples!!!! Can people still do this now?
Diggers still do the same record digging. But only now there is a pluthera more places to find vinyl. Now that the internet allows shopping from everywhere. Also, the records are a Lot cheaper than they were.
Maybe online, with such websites as Tracklib and Midi World, but not so much in actual stores. Though there are public libraries out there that have music sections (vinyl and digital) and you can borrow from there.
You have no idea how much you're helping prospective producers with your content. Thanks a lot, DJ Furio, I subscribed a week ago and I always drop a like
Loved this dive into samples from Latin America. Some of my favorite samples; such rich music to pull inspiration from. Keep up the great work DJ Furio!
Some of these artists are actually big in Mexico and are sampled heavily when given the chance, with Vincente Fernandez being the biggest in Mexico. I even use some of these artists for sampling and its really fun :D
Dope video, despite PR, Cuba, and Mexico being in the Caribbean and North America lol. 😝 Also, not saying hip hop isn't political or there's no sincere discussions to be had, but sad to see people politicizing what was simply a music video with no intent other than Furio's usual intent - to showcase samples and music.
It's amazing how much old school good music is out there that alot of people really never heard because you never hear these types of deep cuts on radio or tv....but if you know you know! I always hate it when I hear dope samples in old songs but it's only a few seconds before it changes back into something not as good....musically wise, for hip hop beats...makes me wish i had a sampler just to loop samples i love and try to flip them into beats!.....I've been trying to find this sample produced by Sicknature from the original Heavy Metal Kings album the sample for "Vices Of Killing" it sounds like an old classical sample but I'm not forsure and cant figure it out, if anyone knows its greatly appreciated!
If you have a computer you can download sampling software for free. Audacity is a great free one. I’m not sure on that sample you asked about. Definitely classical music but no idea what piece.
@@DJFurio yea I used to have one but I dont have a good computer anymore, almost bought a cheap mpc but didnt, but thanks for trying to help! Love your videos btw!
Here are some songs sampled by Latin singer(s): NAS “Gangsta Tears” 2001 Jose Luis Rodriguez “Quisera Saber Por Que” 1978 Dead Prez “We Want Freedom” 2000 Jose Feliciano “The Windmills of Your Mind” 1969 Vicente Fernandez “Volver Volver” 2002 Lil Rob “Volver” 2007 Selena “No Me Quieda” 1994 Lil B “Party Based God” 2007 Fania All Stars f/ Ismael Miranda “Lamento De Un Guajiro” 1972 NAS “Represent” 1994 Deliquent Habits “Return of Tres” 1999 El Choclo “Mexicali Brass” 1964 Daiquiri “Chamo Candela” 1984 Gerardo “Rico Suave” 1991 Mellow Man Ace “Mentirosa” 1989 Santana “Evil Ways” 1969
This videos are incredible🔥. Thanks for putting in the work. I had a question for you: what do you find the most joy in: finding a nice song to sample or recognizing a sample that was used on some already existing song? 🤔
Thanks for watching. I like both so that’s a difficult choice. What I’m really liking at the moment is digging through used records to see if I can find something obscure to sample. And sometimes when I’m then listening back, I discover an existing sample too.
It's "nice", but Big Deal... Latin Music was Sampled. That's HIP HOP. Back in the day (probably before you were Born), we played BEATS on the Turntables. Music taken from Soul Artists, Rock, Country, New Wave, I have stuff from a group called Hiroshima. I believe they're Japanese band. So I hope this is not one of those Latin and black black and Latin did hip hop 50/50 type of deal. The face of Hip Hop is black not Brown....... Zulu King Amin ♠️
Such a patronising comment. I’m 45 years old. Saying that beats were played on turntables before I was born. I’ve shown Hiroshima samples in other videos. DJ Premier likes to sample them. And you’ve clearly commented before watching the video. And to say hip hop is black not brown, let me quote KRS-One. “I’m not white or red or black I’m brown, from the Boogie Down.”
Of course Hip hop used Afro-latin music. Arabic, blues, soul, jazz, indian, asian & all the rest of black music.(even a few white people who played black music).

Nowhere near as many places like that around, and the ones that do usually charge top prices for everything.
Diggers still do the same record digging. But only now there is a pluthera more places to find vinyl. Now that the internet allows shopping from everywhere. Also, the records are a Lot cheaper than they were.
@@MattCupan Wow, I guess things evolve and in some ways thats postive, I guess. I'll be honest, I still miss the late 1980s.
@@MattCupan Not in Toronto. Where you at?
And online can have good prices, but shipping is crazy $. Plus you can't dig if you can't hear the record.

2 Things- NY record stores, Thrift shops open air markets were the fuel of innovation. And Jose Feliciano isn't South American, he's Puerto Rican.
