I think that American girl needs some more dolls with glasses, different face molds, NORMAL hair colors, and cool hair styles. Also a doll from Alaska (GOTY or not) would be so cool! Her collection would be cool!
If they do one from Alaska they should do a Native doll like Inuit. That would be cool as the only native dolls they have are Kaya and Josefina and both now have very little collections. I love that Kaya does have some outfits from today like modern powwow ones, but having like inuit or even a doll that is native but learns to connect to her native side as that is what native girls of today are experiencing. Especially with the recent finding of mass graves in Canada, teachings of what actually happening in resident schools, and that lots of native culture was almost erased. Having one with the story of learning her heritage would not only be relatable for today but also teach non natives their stories. Plus there are TONS of clothing from different native cultures that are 10000% fabulous. I see lots of creators that are sharing their stories online and they have so many outfits that i just love and really want myself so having some of those for AG dolls with education behind it (like what they would be made out of like seal skin, and would be hand made) would be incredible! I would buy one in a heart beat
Modern historical dolls drive me crazy! It’s like AG has a phobia of making dolls who are from before the 20th century. The only decades they haven’t covered in the 20th century are the 90s and 20s. Personally, I’m far more interested in the 19th and 18th centuries, and I’ve heard other adult collectors speak in agreement. Also, I find it to be strange how none of their historical dolls are from before the 1760s-I’m well aware that America only began officially existing in 1774, but they’ve had characters from before there before. If I recall correctly, they had a mystery series for older kids, and one character was from the 1600s, whose name was Meredith. Once again, I could be wrong, but that’s what I remember. She was still in the colonies, still American, even if it wasn’t technically America yet. I wish they would do more dolls from, say, 1600-1800. Those pique my interest. Imagine how wonderful it would be to have a doll from 1880 who wants to be a writer, or one who was an early colonist! Even AG’s historical dolls are modern now. It’s incredibly boring. Kids hear about the 1900s all the time. I know it was monumental for America’s growth, but seriously? Having so many dolls from the 1900s has grown dull; they barely feel historical anymore.
I agree - I really like the 18th and early 19th centuries, and am doing my best to work on getting them to the screen. I've gotten them as far as my Instagram ... there are so many beautiful time periods that could be portrayed, but AG doesn't seem interested.
I hope they stop the historical dolls with Courtney. If you want a 1990’s doll, PC started releasing Truly Me dolls, clothes, etc. in 1995. Not all of the historical dolls are from the political United States. They are from the geographical United States. Josefina lived near Santa Fe. It was a territory of Spain when she was born, and became a territory of Mexico in 1821 (shortly before her 1824 time period). It was not a territory of the United States until 1848 or a state until 1912. Nanea (1941) was also in Honolulu when it was a territory of the United States. Hawaii became the 50th state in 1959. I hope they go back before 1900 and have more stories to tell about the history of more cultures in the geographical United States.
I think that American Girl should add more "Religious" dolls, and "Cultural" dolls. I would LOVE to see a Muslim American Girl (As I am muslim too.) Seeing how they havent put much diversity really upsets me.
i also agree with joss she’s very unique. she was a surfer and cheerleader which that was unique but then they added the hearing aid and face mold which is amazing.
Well if you think about the 20s there weren’t any things that we still think about when we think about the 20s that would interest Ag target demographic ( aka the 8-12 year olds ) but if they would release a 1920s doll it would be cool showing a girls who’s parents do circus life in the 20s
Molly-42 years between her historical date (1944) and her release date (1986). Julie-31 years between her historical date (1976) and her release date (2007). Courtney-34 years between her historical date (1986) and her release date (2020). I spent my childhood in the 70’s and my teenage years in the 80’s. They are not historical times to me since I was there and remember them. It is funny now that Happy Days and 50’s parties were popular in the 1970’s. That was going back in history even though it was only a 20 year difference. I think the thing with Courtney is that she is both a part of their 35th Anniversary and is appealing to parents and grandparents who remember the 80’s. It is a marketing thing to attract buyers.
I also felt like all the girl if the years were all from very wealthy families, which really alienates kids from lower class families. Doing expensive sports or hobbies or traveling is hard for those kids who grew up poor to relate to.
Also a historical doll during the time of the Oregon trail, different parts of WW2 (a Jewish doll) and other informational time periods would make me love the historical dolls more
i would love a jewish doll or more unique historical doll i feel like AG has been focused on truly me and world by us and doty and the historical dolls have been pushed to the back which is sad
@lanalang14 As a Jew, the one thing I really do not want is a Holocaust doll. Rebecca is great because for once her stories focus on another area of Jewish history, when most people only know about the Holocaust. I think I probably speak for a lot of Jews when I say that I wouldn't be in a rush to give my kid a doll based on the darkest period of our history, which is still a source of trauma for us.
I definitely agree with you. The only thing that has me wanting to grab Kira for my collection is that she has 2 moms. It wasn’t the biggest story line but the fact they mentioned it meant a lot to me. I hope they hear your Alaskan idea, I would snatch them in a heartbeat! 😍
I think they should make a historical doll from the time time when George Washington had just became president because of they are trying to teach American history they might as well make a doll form that time period
Personally I think they should do an around the world line just like the historical line but with countries a Chinese, doll a Latino doll, lots of dolls from different backorunds
I can’t believe how strongly I agree with everything you mentioned! This is such an entertaining series, American girl should really be taking notes - AGWorld Sprinkles 💕
I've seen a few people mention wanting a girl from Alaska! I actually sketched a few designs for clothing pieces since I thought it was such a cute idea!
They should have a native one. Ive seen lots of modern clothing that would be gorgeous for dolls plus it would have so much education with not only the history (resident schools) but lots of kids today are learning about their own family history and culture because they were almost erased. And its not like a story like that is too controversial for AG... Addy was a slave separated from her family, Rebecca was Jewish, Nanea witnessed pearl harbor, Kaya was kidnapped, Samantha was an orphan who was friends with an orphan and witnessed the horrors of child labor in factories, Emily's house was bombed in WWII. Its not like there are not stories of horrible history and real events told through the lense of kids to educate others. And none of them were ever horribly graphic. Just real enough for education. If i remember right Addy was either whipped or witnessed the person next to her be whipped. A modern native story would be amazing.
Besides, we still didn't get a historical doll from the roaring twenties! Just think about how beautiful her collection would be? A beautiful flapper inspired dress with short hair maybe even a 20's inspired car?
Word is out that 2021 Historical doll is going to be a 1920's girl. You may get your wish. She should be released soon. They just released 3 new dolls that are unique and not GOTY, Truly Me, or Historical.
Great video! Oh my goodness for a while now I’ve been trying to convince myself that Kira does not look like Julie, but when you briefly put them side by side in this video I totally thought you put Julie side by side there 😂
i really want an Addy mold goty with a lot of thought put into her. also there's not a lot of Addy Jess and Sonali molds in the TM line. And there is no asian american historical. the lack of diversity is what I hate most
Great video. These are all great topics! Love your channel! I was really hoping for you to do a Part 2 and I’m so excited that it is here! I agree with everything you said!
Thank you for taking about the gendered marketing, I am a male collector and I hate how they market things, plus the few boy doll items we have are super hyper masculine ☹️
Hey, I’m very proud of you for collecting these dolls! I know you must get a lot of ridicule from people in the community. Kudos to you for enjoying dolls just as much as I do! And yes, the “boy”doll items, honestly, strike me as somewhat tacky. Granted, so do the “girl” items. It’s like all AG knows is extremities.
But honestly I feel like what’s worse is when other agtube channels only say girls, since they’re in the community, I feel like they should know better
We have ONE tomboy-esc character doll. Nicki. Even Courtney is a stretch. AG is very stereotypical, with pink and sparkles. American Girl. NOT ALL GIRLS LIKE THAT! Oh also, why can't there be a girl doll with a pixie cut? Girls can like video games, dinosaurs, etc. and have short hair! Also, girls. Can. Have. "Boy" jobs. Doctor, paleontologist, etc. Again, ONE character doll who wants to be one of these jobs, which is Luciana. Not all girls like the color pink, sparkles, gardening, cooking, etc.!
i was really happy when i saw that the girl of the year 2022 (corrinne tan) was chinese she isnt half white either and her chinese name is mei ling (i believe) she is a collaboration with AAPI Youth Rising and she has a sister doll i like her collection seeing as she is winter themed also she introduced a new face mold
This is random but there’s a LOT of truly me’s with brown hair and brown eyes. The only dolls with brown hair/ blue eyes have freckles. I just want a doll that has brown hair/ green or blue eye without bangs or freckles to look like me :c
saaaame I have auburn hair, brown eyes, freckles, and a very light skin tone. I know not having a doll that looks like me isn't the end of the world saying there needs to be more representation, but it'd be nice to have more combinations than blonde hair and blue eyes or brown hair and brown eyes.
I disagree with your opinion about historical dolls. What you are missing out is that the historicals are to provide people a story about a girl living in an specific time. Again, these dolls are geared towards YOUNG GIRLS AGED 8-12. So in that case, I doubt any girl aged 8-12 was alive during the 80's or even the 90's. I get you are frustrated as an somewhat adult collector (like me and I am in my 30's) but AGAIN, we are not the target consumers for this line. You have to remember that American Girl is a company and they sell what will SELL WELL. Hence, pink, sparkles, and glitters because if a girl wants a doll, probably this girl is feminine and will want feminine things. Because I don't know, a girl who is a bit of a tomboy may probably not be interested in getting a doll. Also, I thought about it, I doubt American Girl is stupid and they don't realize that most of the dolls are white. I think they are doing market research and surveys and it is probably showing which dolls most of its customers will buy. They probably also know how many of their buyers are white, black, Asian, or whatever. Most chances are, the majority are whites hence why there are more white dolls. We just have to be reminded again and again, adults are not the target consumers and kids are kids. Most are not really concerned with diversity and equality and all. They want a doll to play with and that's it.
I understand what you’re saying, but think about the early days of the historical dolls. Samantha, Kirsten, Molly, Felicity etc. They all represented different times in US history and were from a long time ago. Ag was around in the 80’s and I think it’s too soon for an 80’s doll
Being an adult collector (AG dolls weren't even made during my childhood - Barbie was the thing) I agree with you. AG is Mattel and Mattel (dolls) has always targeted little girls and made what will sell. Pink and sparkles are what appeal to young girls and the reason there is a lot of pink. Pink used to be my second favorite color (behind turquoise) but since it's so overdone I try to avoid dressing my dolls in pink all the time. I hate glitter (it sheds) and avoid glittery material when sewing. I'll be happy when that phase is over. AG should make more DOC and Asian dolls in their Truly Me line up. That way if someone wants one of those they can purchase them. Also, more boys. I'm going to search and see if I can find any info on which dolls are more popular and sold the most to see what has sold in the past. I'm sure a lot of that is what goes into creating new dolls. If a doll of the year (or even historical doll - like Courtney) doesn't sell well they won't repeat that same mistake. Companies are in it for the profits not to make everyone happy. That's the bottom line. P.S. Just a guess, but, I think the reason there aren't more boy dolls or why they haven't released another one, is that Logan probably didn't sell well. Neither he nor Tenney were around for long.
Totally agree with your last point! While I do think a lot of Courtney's collection is cool, I don't love the trend of the more modern "historical" dolls, especially because all the historical dolls from pre-1900 (with the exception of Kaya) are either retired or cubed now. I first got into AG in the mid-2000s when the most "modern" historical doll was Molly, so when I think of the historical dolls, that's what I think of. I'd absolutely love to see a '20s doll!
I love Luciana’s Cuban background and how she is so dedicated to family. She is a diverse doll and nothing like they have ever done before. For the traveling GOTY dolls, I think a Canadian doll would be cool, since there are so many Canadian Ag lovers! (A love of hockey would be so cool). Nanea: Yes, she is from the same time as Molly, but she experienced Pearl Harbor, and Molly just was upset because she didn’t like turnips. I do think a doll who experienced 9/11 would be different, even though it is only 20 years ago. (Wow I feel old)
I think 9/11 is still too recent for a historical. I am Canadian, and hate hockey haha. As much as I would want a Canadian doll since I’m Canadian, we have Maplelea for that
I traveled a lot back when I was collecting AG, and loved that Grace and Leah had traveling story lines ~ I think it’s not far off for many people esp for Americans living overseas for military or family purposes to relate to experiencing culture shock from a childrens perspective :)) just wanted to put my little idea/rebuttal but I hope I don’t come across as rude! love your channel btw
For me Joss is a DOC since I am a POC and she is my look alike and when you said "I would not consider my parents historical" I was like 😂 historical parents sounds odd.but in love Courtney either way even if she is not historical
@@AllycatlovesAG I know that my mom when I got Courtney and called her "historical " my mom said I'm not historical, so maybe that's why they changed it to "beforever" instead
I would love that! Mapelea (Canadian AG) has a native northern doll, from one of the Canadian territories. Lots of cool authentic items as well. AG could do that with Alaska
You got your wish! They are making a winter themed girl of the year (not sure where she’s from 😅) and she has a little sister and there both sooo cute! :D
ahh I loved this video! I agree with a lot of things too! especially the goty’s and the historical’s! like their brand is called American girl so why do they keep making dolls that travel to another country and their whole story is them in the other country, it doesn’t make sense. and the historical’s my parents were born in the late 70’s and grew up on the 80’s and like you said, I don’t consider them to be historical either! also I’m not a Courtney fan too
Your parents are so young compared to mine! Mine are around Julie’s age (if she was alive today) but the 70’s are older then the 80’s, and not as common in today’s trends
i am a nonbinary person assigned female at birth and use he/they. growing up i loved these dolls but as i grew older i grew away from them. i feel like other doll companies do much better with gender inclusiveness and i frown ag for their female terminology.
I agree with a log of the points you brought up i hadn’t even thought of some of these things, i hope they stop making rainbow hair dolls and i feel like they retire dolls way to quickly! Also i really dislike how they only make outfits for young girls and boys and i wish that they would make more outfits like the ones they used to make…
Yesss! AG needs more diversity. I wish I would've gotten a doll of color earlier than I did. And I wish they'd have more Asian dolls, specifically Korean! I don't know why they make their dolls seem only right for boys. I mean, I can understand them staying neutral on controversial topics, but boys have always had their versions of dolls, like legos and GI Joes. I guess they want to focus on the "girly" part of dolls. For sure. They should make GOTYs that are into classical music (as in composers), wear glasses, are homeschooled, and maybe have different haircuts, like crooked bobs or anything different. Let's not even get started on face molds. lol I think I wrote a long enough comment. O_O --Anastasia
I personally like Courtney. You are right about some of the outfits being costumey but I wouldn't say all of it. I don't own her but I do own a lot of her accessories. Some are very accurate like the scrunchie, her sneakers, walkman (cassette player). The Care Bear items would be something that a young girl in the 80s like. Also, I would like to say Julie is pretty recent as well if you think about it. She was released in 2007 and she was nine years old. That was 33 years ago in 2007.
YESSSSSSSS i have been waiting for someone to talk about the unnecessary gender marketing as a boy American girl doll collector it is really annoying that us male doll collectors have to sort of miss out on stuff like when you go on to the AG website and the first thing it says is some stuff about mothers and girls connecting like it’s cool if you don’t want to add the word boy but maybe they should add stuff like “ your child “ and so on.
I want a early medieval POC doll as a historical! Like a Japanese or Chinese medieval princess. I also want a black historical that doesn’t experience racism, it is not like every black person from the past experienced racism.
With the whole target audience talk tbh got me shook as American girl is owned by mattel the creators of barbie and they have male dolls with accesorys, clothes so it kinda is weird that the only thing American girl has for boy dolls is the doll and accessories like jeez
I don’t like how there is the weird soft part of where the torso is and that’s really annoying because if you wanna your doll wear a tank top then that weird soft spot will show that I think that you just make everything plastic It will look nicer
I'm so glad! Part 1 still gets views so I knew I had to do a part 2, and I'm glad it's doing well cause my last few videos have been slightly flopping.
Please, not a 90’s doll. I don’t think AG will make one for a while, but I’m hoping it won’t be for a LONG while. We really don’t need another modern girl. Can’t AG give us some 1800’s dolls? We only have Addy and Josefina, who both don’t have any collections. These modern historicals are getting on my nerves too (I do like Maryellen, Melody, and Nanea though, but we really don’t need that many).
I think American girl needs to make more unique skin tones, more realistic hair, and dolls from different places. Like a doll from Japan, maybe a doll from Iceland. All I’m trying to say is that they should make more unique dolls yet realistic.
I am glad that I am not the only one who doesn't like the more recent historical dolls like Courtney. Probably because I grew up with historical dolls like Samantha, Felicity, etc. I do like Nanea even though she shares a time period with Molly because it's about the conflict from the point of view of a native Hawaiian which I think is unique. Rebecca Rubin still counts as historical for me.
I would just like to say that in my opinion it’s also not the best with the boy dolls like we need more boy dolls because boys don’t have the same facial features along with really short hair some have their hair in covering their ears or to their eye brows and not all boys that are blonde are blue eyed or there can also be boys with red hair (the natural color hair but since american girl is adding colored hair to i’m trying to figure out why they haven’t done any boy dolls with colored hair) also if they are going to have dolls with colored hair can they try to have highlights with blonde in them instead of colored hair (or any other natural hair color) and also possibly more asian dolls (because there is only a few of them and they have retired some of them as well) and along with that about the boy dolls we need more boy doll clothing like if your going to make a line of them they kind of need clothes
I think that American girl needs a line for older people and a line for kids as for older people tend to like the original historical aspect of American girl they can even get more deeper with the topics. They can do a 1920s themed doll about women's suffrage. And maybe the next girl of the year could be about getting through the pandemic with the blm movement and how it affected them. They could be doing so much more. And I'm sure a lot of people would buy that doll
I member being a little boy who liked dolls and wanted a just like you I think they were called at the time doll . But felt like that I couldn’t even get one because they only had girl dolls at the time . Least with Barbie I had Ken or Brat I had all the Bratz boys
They have boy dolls now but only 4+ Logan. I thought it was a step towards inclusivity of all genders but they still constantly say things like “you’re little girl” “for girls” etc and it annoys me so much. Plenty of male identifying people collect dolls too
That is very true. They probably would not do it nowadays but they could put some research into the time period to figure out what was popular for kids to wear during that time!
@@AllycatlovesAG well (as a person who used to be SUPER interested of the 1920s and did a lot of research) the 1920s is more than flapper dresses. There are a lot of 1920s fashion are more than that, plus other iconic things like the start of jazz
@@dance5845 LOL ! My mother was born in 1925. To see what they wore all I have to do is look at old pictures of her as a child. Lot of white dresses styled like Samantha's original meet outfit. And the sailor dress with the pleats. Very 1920's.
I totally agree on you they could have done a little bit better maybe one day they'll come out with another African-American girl but I hope that's soon but who knows and yes they have gotten lazy over the years
@@Paintedfacesag Usually, (though I don’t know if they still continue this tradition), AG only does dolls in the 4th year of the decade, ex. 1854, 1904, 1944, etc. Since they’ve already had a 30s doll, it’s unlikely, but I wouldn’t entirely rule it out.
THANK YOU for talking about how gendered the company is. I am a collector, and I feel like such an outsider sometimes bc I’m non-binary. I love the dolls just as much as anyone who identifies as a girl.
I would honestly love to see a non binary doll! I don’t know how many 10 year olds are non binary but I have a few friends who use they/them pronouns. With all of the Facebook moms freaking out about Kira’s gay aunts, I don’t know if they would do a non binary doll
@@HealingSpectrumIntuition I’m not sure what part of the video you are referencing, but though Kanani is a doc, her mom is European. From 2010 to present, only Kanani, Gabriella, Luciana and Corinne were dolls of color, and that doesn’t even include all the white girl of the years from the 2000’s
You said there were barely any dolls of color and when you listed them, you left Kananni out. I have Kananni and she looks pretty tan to me. She is also my only doll with squinty eyes. I wish they had made her a Historical figure instead of Nanea because she is much prettier and Nanea just idk seems kinda white-washed. I wish they would make an AG from India. That would be cool.
@@HealingSpectrumIntuition oh I left her out because she’s half white as her mom is European. Still a doll of color but it’s not 100% like the dolls I listed
I don’t like am that American girl made their body is held by a rope because sometimes he might make like a skirt out of a old sock and am I not fit so then they’re like just shows like the ropes so it is then you are just like scared for ur doll
I don’t like the amount of dresses. PC had a few gender neutral items. I hope they return to boy doll clothes, pant/short outfits and gender neutral outfits. Along that line, I hate that the flight attendant outfit is a dress! It is very 1960’s! What I have decided regarding Molly is that she was in the 1986 release with PC opening the company and introducing their products. Her story is about life in the 1940’s. Nanea’s story is riskier and is more about World War 2. I was a child in the 1970’s and a teen in the 1980’s. I have a lot of Julie and Courtney’s collection. I like Courtney’s books better than Julie’s. An odd thing I realized about Courtney is that she is also a part of their 35th Anniversary as her story was set in 1986 and she is the only historical doll to receive her own AG mini doll instead of a mini Courtney being made. I hope they go back to exploring other cultures and historical time periods before the 1930’s (maybe 1920’s), and before 1900. I agree that there is enough to American history and culture to not have to set GOTY stories in other countries. It seriously irritating to have so many blonds like Maryellen/Courtney and Julie/Kira.
I definitely want to see less dresses and "girly" clothing. I'm also very nerdy about aviation and airlines and that flight attendant outfit is very dated, especially if you look at what the other major US carriers wear. Also, people say the dolls are supposed to be kids (and dress like kids), so why are they being pilots and flight attendants?
@@AllycatlovesAG I find it to be very discriminatory to only have a dress for the flight attendant. They could have made two flight attendant uniforms; one with pants. Both options are available in current flight attendant uniforms and it would be more likely for the boy dolls to be flight attendants in a pant uniform. The pilot outfit leans toward boy dolls, although it shown on a girl. It is a possible current choice for those of us with AG boys while the flight attendant is only a dress. Gender discrimination and sexism. I don’t have a problem with the plane section they have. AG has also had a variety of cars. Kids play make believe, and travel is a part of their experience. Perhaps playing airline can help some children get over any possible anxieties about an airplane trip or re-play a recent trip on their minds.
Exactly. I looked up current flight attendant uniforms, and they include pants for men and women. I don’t know why AG went with a flight attendant dress without also offering a flight attendant pant outfit. Back to way too many dresses!!
Bla bla bla I know this is my third comment but to me I don’t really like how American girl makes little girls feel. American girls look perfect when not all girls look like that. So then little girls try to copy their looks when at their age they shouldn’t even be worrying about it. It just makes me so sad. I am a little girl but I do not really think that’s very much. But I guarantee a lot of other little girls do
You know I do like the doll of the years outfit of 2020 I loved her outfit but I wish they could have done a little bit better on her stuff a little bit and you have to get the you have to in order to get her computer you had to get her car or her skateboard they could have done a little bit better on her collection and I love the doll of 2021 but I think they could have done a little bit better on her collection also and I understand about the difference about the Leah's house and hers they could have done a little bit better on that and it's very sad that you can only get her bed if you get that if you get the tent they could have done a little bit better me and my sister have pretty much all the dolls of the year since 2014
As a trans person in the ag community, the gendered ads feel awful. Also I feel like a lot of their audience is people who grew up with ag, so it’s more than just little girls that have them. That connects with ag clothes too, they made the clothes so much more childish instead of going with the trends like they used to.
I think that American girl needs some more dolls with glasses, different face molds, NORMAL hair colors, and cool hair styles. Also a doll from Alaska (GOTY or not) would be so cool! Her collection would be cool!
Yesss!
I really want an Alaska doll as well!! Either a GOTY, contemporary or historical...its long overdue in my opinion!

I agree - I really like the 18th and early 19th centuries, and am doing my best to work on getting them to the screen. I've gotten them as far as my Instagram ... there are so many beautiful time periods that could be portrayed, but AG doesn't seem interested.
I couldn’t agree more! If the next historical is a 90’s doll, I’m going to lose my mind
Yesss! This is so true!

I think that American Girl should add more "Religious" dolls, and "Cultural" dolls. I would LOVE to see a Muslim American Girl (As I am muslim too.) Seeing how they havent put much diversity really upsets me.
There is a contemporary line rumoured to come out in the fall with diverse dolls...

I want to read her books.
I agree about Courtney I don’t think the 80s is that far back to be historical 😅 Ag still hasn’t made a 1920s doll they should do that
I think when they mean historical, they mean history dolls.
I mean Julie is 70s and that’s only a decade difference
I was your age in the 80s ... it's not that far back. :)
I wish they’d do a doll that is of more of the middle class, or heck, even a homeless doll would be nice to see imo.
Edit: I forgot Gwen-oops..
@@Missy_394well I think u mean more dolls form different classes ?.
@@softsage112 Yeah.
Also a historical doll during the time of the Oregon trail, different parts of WW2 (a Jewish doll) and other informational time periods would make me love the historical dolls more
i believe nanea was a different part of ww2 (not that i wouldnt like to see a jewish 40s doll)
i would love a jewish doll or more unique historical doll i feel like AG has been focused on truly me and world by us and doty and the historical dolls have been pushed to the back which is sad

@Ann Rothfusz yes but it would be teaching young girls American history
@Ann Rothfusz she could offer style advice to Felicity. :) Felicity could use more than one dress, poor thing.
Personally I think they should do an around the world line just like the historical line but with countries a Chinese, doll a Latino doll, lots of dolls from different backorunds

@@kaitlynstokes2668 They also had Kirsten's best friend die of cholera in the first book, and then Kirsten's house burned down in the last book.
The problem is that the dolls are supposed to be around 10 years old and girls that age were too young to wear flapper clothing.
Maybe they could do an older sister. The doll might work in a factory!
Well we just got Claudie Wells!!!
Great video! Oh my goodness for a while now I’ve been trying to convince myself that Kira does not look like Julie, but when you briefly put them side by side in this video I totally thought you put Julie side by side there 😂

Ag should make more gender neutral outfits
@@AllycatlovesAG
Agreed! I’d love to see those.
@@AllycatlovesAG also more neutral clothes I’m general
Yes I was hoping you’d do a part 2!

I don’t think Nanea is really a copy of molly but they did need a another 1940s doll because that was a big part in history
It floors me that we still don't have an Asian American girl in the historical doll line. Unless you count Ivy.

Thanks for binging! I just wish Ag made a basics mix and match outfit. They used to release new outfits more frequently but now it’s all mix and match
This is random but there’s a LOT of truly me’s with brown hair and brown eyes. The only dolls with brown hair/ blue eyes have freckles. I just want a doll that has brown hair/ green or blue eye without bangs or freckles to look like me :c
there used to be a lot more TM dolls with brown hair and blue eyes, but they’ve all been retired as of now
@@reshiyum yea :( i think they didn’t sell well as the other dolls.
saaaame I have auburn hair, brown eyes, freckles, and a very light skin tone.
As much as I would want a Canadian doll since I’m Canadian, we have Maplelea for that
Coincidentally, Lindsey actually came out in 2001. Of course, her book doesn't mention 9/11. It would have been written before then.
Yay! She posted :)
I would like a 90s doll with reproduction girl of today outfits.
All good! It’s the fact that it’s become quite common that bugs me haha
For me Joss is a DOC since I am a POC and she is my look alike and when you said "I would not consider my parents historical" I was like 😂 historical parents sounds odd.but in love Courtney either way even if she is not historical
Like in a joking sense they are historical, but not far back enough to be put in the historical line in my opinion
@@AllycatlovesAG I know that my mom when I got Courtney and called her "historical " my mom said I'm not historical, so maybe that's why they changed it to "beforever" instead

ahh I loved this video!
Let's not even get started on face molds. lol

YES! It bugs me so much, even though I'm a girl, the fact they exclude older collectors from their marketing bugs me so much
I think that Ag should make a throwback line where they bring back a doll like from the truly me line
When in the thumbnail and the video the wig on the doll looks better than ones you can get a wig store.

I want a early medieval POC doll as a historical! Like a Japanese or Chinese medieval princess. I also want a black historical that doesn’t experience racism, it is not like every black person from the past experienced racism.
A lot of stuff happened in the '80s that is historical the space shuttle a lot of things happened in the 80s
I know, but it's still too recent in my opinion
With the whole target audience talk tbh got me shook as American girl is owned by mattel the creators of barbie and they have male dolls with accesorys, clothes so it kinda is weird that the only thing American girl has for boy dolls is the doll and accessories like jeez
Barbie has lines that cater to older collectors and male collectors, AG is all pink sparkles little girls
I don’t like how there is the weird soft part of where the torso is and that’s really annoying because if you wanna your doll wear a tank top then that weird soft spot will show that I think that you just make everything plastic
It will look nicer

Please, not a 90’s doll. I don’t think AG will make one for a while, but I’m hoping it won’t be for a LONG while. We really don’t need another modern girl. Can’t AG give us some 1800’s dolls? We only have Addy and Josefina, who both don’t have any collections. These modern historicals are getting on my nerves too (I do like Maryellen, Melody, and Nanea though, but we really don’t need that many).
YES! We have the same favourite modern ones too
20 years old is considered vintage :) loved the video
I think American girl needs to make more unique skin tones, more realistic hair, and dolls from different places. Like a doll from Japan, maybe a doll from Iceland. All I’m trying to say is that they should make more unique dolls yet realistic.
I really wish there was a doll from the 1920s and show how people were after the first war plus the cute outfits

9:59 Watching this in 2023. Some epic foreshadowing lol.
I should make a compilation of me predicting the future. I think I predicted the musical theatre GOTY too
I would just like to say that in my opinion it’s also not the best with the boy dolls like we need more boy dolls because boys don’t have the same facial features along with really short hair some have their hair in covering their ears or to their eye brows and not all boys that are blonde are blue eyed or there can also be boys with red hair (the natural color hair but since american girl is adding colored hair to i’m trying to figure out why they haven’t done any boy dolls with colored hair) also if they are going to have dolls with colored hair can they try to have highlights with blonde in them instead of colored hair (or any other natural hair color) and also possibly more asian dolls (because there is only a few of them and they have retired some of them as well) and along with that about the boy dolls we need more boy doll clothing like if your going to make a line of them they kind of need clothes
Yessssss!
OMG QUEEN PAIGE
Noooo they can’t get rid of 58!!!!!
She isn't my personal favourite but a lot of people love her
I think that American girl needs a line for older people and a line for kids as for older people tend to like the original historical aspect of American girl they can even get more deeper with the topics. They can do a 1920s themed doll about women's suffrage. And maybe the next girl of the year could be about getting through the pandemic with the blm movement and how it affected them. They could be doing so much more. And I'm sure a lot of people would buy that doll
I don't like the be forever line what's the point of making historical dolls if you are going to modernize them
You're right about such things that's how much American girls are actually pretty cool for some boys they should also
I loved this video
I member being a little boy who liked dolls and wanted a just like you I think they were called at the time doll . But felt like that
I couldn’t even get one because they only had girl dolls at the time . Least with Barbie I had Ken or Brat I had all the Bratz boys
They have boy dolls now but only 4+ Logan. I thought it was a step towards inclusivity of all genders but they still constantly say things like “you’re little girl” “for girls” etc and it annoys me so much. Plenty of male identifying people collect dolls too
I feel like what you said about Courtney could also be a applied to Julie. I don't like Julie 🙈🙈🙈
Thinking about it, yes, but Julie was released a while ago and it was a one off thing.
I think American Girl doll should make a 1920's doll!
Me too, but all of the iconic flapper outfits weren’t for children… so I don’t know what pieces she would get
That is very true.

Usually, (though I don’t know if they still continue this tradition), AG only does dolls in the 4th year of the decade, ex. 1854, 1904, 1944, etc. Since they’ve already had a 30s doll, it’s unlikely, but I wouldn’t entirely rule it out.

Quality control is going down and return policy is getting worse.
@@TrobertABQ I don’t often see female pilots in skirts or dresses, but female flight attendants often wear pants too
Exactly. I looked up current flight attendant uniforms, and they include pants for men and women. I don’t know why AG went with a flight attendant dress without also offering a flight attendant pant outfit. Back to way too many dresses!!
I want an American girl doll from Louisiana
Bla bla bla I know this is my third comment but to me I don’t really like how American girl makes little girls feel. American girls look perfect when not all girls look like that. So then little girls try to copy their looks when at their age they shouldn’t even be worrying about it. It just makes me so sad. I am a little girl but I do not really think that’s very much. But I guarantee a lot of other little girls do
By the way I meant don’t like how dolls make girls feel
You know I do like the doll of the years outfit of 2020 I loved her outfit but I wish they could have done a little bit better on her stuff a little bit and you have to get the you have to in order to get her computer you had to get her car or her skateboard they could have done a little bit better on her collection and I love the doll of 2021 but I think they could have done a little bit better on her collection also and I understand about the difference about the Leah's house and hers they could have done a little bit better on that and it's very sad that you can only get her bed if you get that if you get the tent they could have done a little bit better me and my sister have pretty much all the dolls of the year since 2014
Totally agree man hate the white josefina
I love you

As a trans person in the ag community, the gendered ads feel awful. Also I feel like a lot of their audience is people who grew up with ag, so it’s more than just little girls that have them. That connects with ag clothes too, they made the clothes so much more childish instead of going with the trends like they used to.
