You say you’re an old video store employee.
Does that mean that you’re either a:
Long time employee of a video store
Employee of an old video store
Used to be an employee of a video store long ago
Or, and old perso … let’s skip this option.

As much as i appreciate the blockbuster memories, when i think back on video stores, the best thing was always the little mom and pop stores. Each one was slightly different because they decorated it how they wanted it. Like one nearby and actually late 90s, the owner was into horror, so there was all kinds of 'flair' set up around the old building and they had wires running through so, when the door opened, they all made something happen.
Some had arcade cabinets in them, some were just so retro like because they rented an old building. I was mostly there to rent video games. And if no one was looking... peek behind the curtain into the adult section. If you never rented an NES game or snuck a peek behind the curtain, then you ain't and 80s/90s kid.

I was one if those customers that spent hours just hanging out at the video store endlessly discussing movies with the employees. We gave excellent recommendations to undecided browsers, and, my favourite thing, was when someone would ask.... what's that movie? based on the slimmest clues.
    That is an amazing collection.
When all the Blockbusters folded in America, they literally threw away all the fixtures into dumpsters. Lighted window signs, Blockbuster carpeting, shelves, and drop boxes. I wish I had grabbed some stuff (for you).
You should have a rack of movie snack boxes. BOXES with the vintage markings. Microwave popcorn, Goobers, Raisinets, Mike'n'Ikes, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Red Hots, Milk Duds, and Red Vines. Also, those plastic employee nametags, and laminated membership cards.

That must have been a very stressful time for you, it must have been a complete shock when it happened. So to move back after being away while work was being down, then having the minset to do the Video store again, is amazing. I have a huge collection here in the UK, my biggest problem is space. Otherwise I would love to build my own video store, I love watching how people create them in their homes. I miss video stores, over here in England we have virtually zero. Maybe one or two in a village that still have private ones. I loved renting movies by how good the cover looked, renting out Console Games. I have a strange feeling, we may see the return of Video stores in the future. I just think Physical Media will not vanish, who wants to own a movie that you can phisically have displayed. Awesome Video store and so happy you got to rebuild your store.

Minty, its prett good but to be honest, you can make it a lot better in pretty simple ways, to take it to the next level.
    1. Install full length measured, installed fitted blue carpet.
    2. Remove the cheap looking images on your walls and install wall shelves, which Blockbuster stores had and youll epicly increase your VHS/DVD capacity.
    3. Using tip 2 above, only ever face your VHS tapes& DVD's face out, not side by side, side label out. You're hiding the cover facings which made video stores so great.
    4. Cover up the garage door. Easily done with shelving or plasterboard painted yellow on a wooden frame.
    5. Improve your lighting. One overhead garage light looks terrible.
    6. Paint walls the proper canary yellow Blockbuster yellow.
    7. Put all films in categories, Action, Comedy, Horror etc and must be in alphabetical order.
    Hope those tips help.

Good on you, man. That you didn't milk the situation and try to run go-fundme's or anything like that. You took care of your own problem and handled it behind the scenes. Mass respect from me for that.
Your video store is beautiful, except it could use more lighting. All you have to do now is get a popcorn machine, if just for effect and atmosphere (I loved smelling popcorn in the air every time I went to the video rental store).
What a fun project that I could only ever dream to replicate. I just don't have the means, but that's fine, I'll just watch videos like this one and enjoy it through you.

Hi Minty, great video. Love your home video store. I grew up in the 80's and so much nostalgia 😊. All the best from the UK.

I'm in Germantown Wisconsin. Born and raised since 1986. And the free rental with the special gumball was a thing indeed. Some gumballs were stamped with a star and the words free rental! Some times the star was replaced with a film roll! I think it is amazing what you did in your garage. Especially living where you do as you get the rarer copies of these things. It would make anyone's day who has ever walked into a blockbuster or family video here in the states and blow their mind the more they look around. Honestly I think you could go a step further and sell tours. Love your videos love you stay strong!

Loved the tour. Your enthusiasm for films and collectibles is created something special. I’m sorry you lost things in the flood. That must have been painful. The candy dispenser needs immediate attention- lol. Thanks so much Minty.

DVD has a wider resolution than LD, but PAL LD has a higher resolution entirely than VHS.

Here's an idea... A VR interface for NetFlix, Hulu, TH-cam etc. that looks like a video store!

Hello from Canada! absolutely loved this tour. As a 90s kid, we had a blockbuster in our city, but the locally-owned family store ran them out of business. Always loved that!
