    Big hello to Steve and his wife who spotted me in Portree Co-Op and a big thank you to the Polish family who very kindly picked us up and gave us a lift when we missed our bus on the way up.
    This was an incredible trip to an incredible place, I want to go back now for an actual holiday!
    Kaite's version of the adventure is here: th-cam.com/video/ssnPbTauwVE/w-d-xo.html

    Oh my god! As soon as I saw the thumbnail I thought to myself how amazing would it be if you bumped in to Haze Outdoors! You both are honestly my two favourite youtubers, and you're putting up videos of the sky trail at the same time. And just a few minutes in to the video you zoom in to Haze pitching his Lanshan next to that wall. Go check out his channel, he's great. It would have been so awesome if you too had met ❤

    Hey Max, enjoyed watching this from both Katie's and your perspective. My other half and I were big into hiking, but a young family has kept us fairly stationary up until now, bar the odd expedition so it has been awesome seeing you get into it. Things are moving in the right direction however and Skye is on the cards at some point.
    Keep doing what you're doing mate, we love your stuff and your eclectic scope of subject matter. I can relate haha.

    It's a small world. Day 7 around about 26.14 you mention the graveyard, Kilmarie Cemetry. That graveyard is at the bottom of Ian Andersons (Jethro Tull) former home and inspiration for quite a few of Tulls songs, 'Old ghosts', 'Dun Ringill'.'Broadford Bazaar' 'Ears Of Tin'. It also looks like you camped very close to Dun Ringill. The majority of the land you navigated used to belong to Ian Anderson and his Strathaird Estate and was sold by him to The John Muir Trust. Did you manage to cross the river stepping stones without falling in?...LOL we didn't?

    Where you camped on day 2 is typical of the Highlands and Islands, only dry spot is in a rocky area. But you might have seen small piles of stones many of them man-made to help shelter from the winds

    I have a question for the blacksmith.
    Why is the top of the gate not rusty but the undersides of the gate are?

    • @maximusironthumper
      @maximusironthumper  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Corrosion occurs when things stay wet rather than just get wet, there's plenty of rain and mist in that location but also sunshine, so I could imagine the more shadowed undersides staying wet much longer than the topsides exposed to the sun. The difference between them would then increase over time as the bottom loses it's zinc coating which would speed the appearance of the rust, while the top remains protected by the remaining zinc.

    Maintaining the path... simple. You use ATV's to carry the equipment to crush rock in to bits to then pack down to make the path, you bring no foreign contaminants in and only repurpose local resources. I'd say that a team of 8 men could do 100 meters a day.
