Mercedes Benz 230 SL intro 1963

  • In 1963 the SL became the 230SL, a new design with a 2.3L mechanically fuel injected six cylinder engine. It featured a low waistline and big curved greenhouse windows, and a Coupe Roadster with detachable hardtop, whose distinctive roofline earned the nickname "pagoda top." The design was by Paul Bracq. Around 1967, the engine received a displacement increase and the model became known as the 250SL. Within a year the engine displacement was increased for the final time and the model designation became 280SL. Beginning with later versions of the 250SL changes were made to dashboard padding, switches and knobs, door pockets (U.S. models only) and steering wheel. In addition, the on the 230SL formerly separate center hub caps and wheel trim rings became full wheelcovers.
    230SL: 1963--1967, 2.3L I6, 150 hp (112 kW)
    250SL: 1966--1968, 2.5L I6, 150 hp (112 kW)
    280SL: 1967--1971, 2.8L I6, 170 hp (127 kW)

    Tolles Zeitgeistvideo....Hatte Ende 70er das Privileg dieses Fahrzeug gelegentlich zu fahren. Man hatte ein Gefühl von Solidität und Luxus.
    Damals etwas ganz besonderes....

    Well that was just awesome, thanks.
    I had a '65. 4-speed, A/C, console, jump seat, leather, fog lamps and euro lamps. Great car and reasonably cheap daily driver for more than 2 years.

    I have one that I occasionally drive and the car is amazing. I like the multi personality it has with the hard, soft tops, and convertible. Amazing after parked for a while within few KM, the car driving smoothness is restored.

    Beaultiful car! My dream is to drive an 80s brazilian replica of one of these made over an Opala. Better maintenance, little less Mercedes-Benz luxury... but same soul. :)

      Schönheit ist relativ, aber fast jeder würde mir zustimmen, dass der der Mercedes 540 k Spezialroadster Ende der 30ger Jahre schöner und eleganter ist.

    YOU SHOULD MAKE THIS CAR AGAIN WITH ELECTRONIC INJECTION AND BETTER BRAKES. IT IS SO MUCH NICER AND CLASSIC THAN THE NEW ONES

      Im pretty sure the original brakes were just fine, you just think they aren't because your imaging it today 60 years later

    Large, a real MERCEDES class, not like today that you find Mitsubisi and diesel engines. Renault economic foam armchairs. Plastic and electronic engines and just enough components. The Bosch mechanical direct injection engine derived from the IIGM engines, indeed, given the tester's hair, probably the whole engine was designed by the same technicians ...
    Groß, eine echte MERCEDES-Klasse, nicht so wie heute, dass Sie Mitsubisi- und Dieselmotoren finden. Renault-Schaumstoffsessel. Kunststoff- und Elektronikmotoren und gerade genug Komponenten. Der mechanische Direkteinspritzungsmotor von Bosch wurde von den IIGM-Motoren abgeleitet. Angesichts der Haare des Testers wurde wahrscheinlich der gesamte Motor von denselben Technikern entworfen ...

    It takes 22 seconds for the hood to go down on my M Sport 1 Series BMW, pretty sure he did it faster with this Merc, but why not just press the button to make the hood go down? Much less of a pain to do
