I’m Irish but I have a bit of a soft spot for this English team. Borthwick clearly has a very fixed way of playing and it takes time for that to be absorbed by any team really but in the case of England, it was basically moving so many parts to get to a point now where they are starting to really knock on the door of the big games. They drove the Boks close at the World Cup. That could have gone either way so there’s no chance I’m writing them off. Their style of play is very direct but it’s so English - that’s the style England should be playing. They have the ability to open up our defence, Smith has the ability to be extremely creative which is all they need. I think England will go on to be a great team actually and the fruits of their labour will show over this 6 nations.
As for us, we know what we can do. We have an exciting 10 pair that can do the job. We’ve pace as well as skill.. but most of all we are a well oiled machine at this stage. If we get our hands moving and keep this England team thinking, we should have it. But something tells me that we are aware of what England are going to do defensively.. sit off us and wait. So we may see some ring a little different from Ireland on Saturday.. England will find it hard to break our defence. So lots of kicking..
In the first game, most teams are a bit rusty. That’s always been the case so who knows what is going to happen.. I can’t wait!

The fact that Borthwick has a `fixed way of playing` as you put it is Englands major problem. That is the short term problem. The long term problem is that for the past 22 years there have been only 4 that really shone and they were the first 4 years of Eddie Jones. The other 18 years the side has been coached by a long line of people, all English, who did not have the wit and people management skills to cut it at top level.
Borthwicks `fixed way of playing` is another way of saying that he knows (or at least should know) that there are frequent occasions when the players should be calling the shots, but that he doesnt have the wit and confidence in his mind to take his hand off the wheel. So he substitutes this with control.
He is a clip boarder. If the clip board says substitutions then thats what will happen, no matter what is going on on the field.
He has had 2 years and he stands at 14-14 from 28. Those are the only numbers that matter.

So Ireland is fickle with their fly halfs because they have started Crowley, Frawley and Prendergast for different games in the last year. What does that say of England with Marcus Smith, Fin Smith and George Ford who have all started for England in the last year?

No team has won the championship three in a row since it beacome the Six Nations. France won the competition four times in a row between 1986 to 1989 when it was the Five Nations, although the 1988 title was shared with Wales. It is quite silly of the female interviewer to try to undermine the significance of this phenomenon if Ireland succeed. it shows she not a real rugby fan and not a very good researcher or interviewer. It is the problem rugby has at the moment where even the broadcasters are not so interested on getting their facts in order and this is what leads to subscription broadcasters to come in and put the sport behind a paywall.

    Bit of an misjudgement.
If Ireland were preoccupied with finding that one 10 and getting him more time before 27, we wouldn't have this competition.
Minutes to be shared. And players will move up and down.

You haven’t a clue- the most basic of research would’ve told you that no team ESPECIALLY NOT IN THE 2010s has won 3 6N in a row!

Irish fan, but I`ve been expecting England to come good for the last year or so. Super-talented squad, but maybe management is their weakness. Ageing Irish squad, and when a player comes to his end, it`s usually a "falling off a cliff" moment. Healy, Aki, Murray, .....this Saturday`s game is a toss of a coin. If my house depended on it, ....wow! Difficult call. Home advantage might just be the decisive factor. Ireland by ...........5??????????????

@@barrycreed9886 Do you genuinely believe men feel threatened by women talking about sport? Are you that naïve? Are you that vulnerable to nonsense you can't see what's actually happening? i.e. women claiming sexism exists so they demand to get positions they are not qualified for. Companies are being forced by the leadership of Blackrock, Statestreet and Vanguard to increase the numbers of DEI hires (regardless of their ability) or they face financial punishment. Larry Fink made this clear in his speech in Davos. And you suck in all the lies like they are mother's milk. You have a lot to learn, son. You can start by watching Larry Fink's interviews at Davos.

Ireland look like a tired squad. Having experience is good some of the guys are just picked because of who they are. England been throwing in new players all the time and they look like they building nicely but Borthwick doesn't fill one with confidence as a coach. France have lost some top players thru injury but not afraid to throw in new players.

Ireland biggest weakness over the last 16 months of test Rugby has been Scrumaging especially the injury crisis , we have no depth at 2, and 3 , and The Downfall since the World Cup is the Penalty situation, we are giving up very stupid penalties and we are playing behind from our Mistakes , there is a drop off in quality of our play , especially last years 6 Nations , we were horrendous, we have a big problem of being “Leinster Heavy “ in our squad we need to develop more Munster and Connacht youngsters from the Under 20s, and we need to replace our old lads for the next World Cup , because our target is winning a World Cup and right now we are behind France and South Africa and The All Blacks!!!!

Totally disagree.. check out the Irish hookers number 2 for Ireland. All in the top 5 best. There are 3 young tight heads very close to test level that will be ready for the next WC. 😊

You’re a donkey, Ireland has loads of depth at 2 at least 3 world class 2s, 3 again we have 2 other proficient 3s and we have probably the best prospect number 3 incoming Niall Smyth a real future star in the making, last 6 nations we won in a canter out scoring every other team by more than 48 points, France squad are completely Toulouse and Bordeaux heavy “not to shabby” how many old lads did SA replace, ill tell you none only 2 of their WC squad retired, Ireland played them in the summer the SA team was older than Irelands , in the last 6 months we introduced prendergast 21, Osborne 22, Izzy 21, Gus McCarthy 21, new players will be introduced in next summers tour players like Niall Smyth Gleeson from Munster Murphy from Connaught and 4 already in the 6 nations squad training. You’re not a donkey you are an uniformed dumb donkey 😂😂😂

I think we have the best depth in the world at 2. Tight head is another story but a step of from some youngsters we can get the third 6 nations

sober up, Kelleher is an excellent hooker. We actually won the last 6Ns," horrrendous" is laughable, "downfall since the RWC"? We beat the the WC champs in their back yard. You're off your nut lad.
