Removing water from behind in ground pool vinyl liner/tightening sagging liner back up.

  • After winterizing my pool I failed to monitor the water level over the winter and with melting snow and spring rains, the water level was well above my return jets allowing water to get behind my vinyl liner. This caused a “floating liner” or bulging liner but luckily didn’t damage anything.
Using a Drummond 3/4 HP water transfer pump, I was able to remove the water from behind the liner and remove a few wrinkles that happened on the floor of the pool as well. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Hope this helps someone!
Note: you could use a smaller pump if you’d like this is just what was available at the store I went to.

By far one of the most useful pool videos I’ve seen!!!!

This is an awesome video and it helped me with removing significant ground water from behind our liner…ran our transfer pump (same one in your video) for two hours. Could see significant water coming out the whole time but the last 30 minutes was where we could see the liner actually reforming to where it should.
Now to get a groundwater runout sump pipe installed to keep up with our high water table.
Thank you again for your time and effort in troubleshooting and sharing your knowledge with everyone.

How far down did you put the hose behind the liner. We tried this and it didn’t pump any water out

If you drain your pool below your jet could you use the jet's to run your hose down instead of popping the liner out?

The jets are connected to pipes. All you’d remove is the water in the pipes, not behind the liner.

How long did you leave the pump running?

So what’s the long-term solution? Because this isn’t going to fix the problem.

I didn’t have a ground water problem, I was a new pool owner and messed up and took the ring (gasket) around my return jets off over the winter and after snow and rain the water level got back above those jets (which were not sealed, bc I messed up) and that’s how it got behind my liner. So for me this was the permanent fix and I learned to never take that gasket off again.
