  • With Ikoria just around the corner, everyone is talking about Magic the Gathering's most innovative new plane. But what can we as worldbuilders and dungeon masters learn from Ikoria? Can we use its secrets when running the game? Join us on this deep dive as we tear into the lore of Savai and Snapdax, Indatha and Nethroi, Zagoth and Brokkos, Raugrin and Vadrok, Ketria and Illuna and even the Skysail and Lavabrink!
There's plenty to be inspired by in Ikoria; plenty to use in your worldbuilding or game of Dungeons and Dragons.

Something a little different this time! Special thanks to everyone at our discord (discord.gg/vWr4ha5) who helped out with the Homewbrew Apexes. Come hang out with us there!
We'll be getting the the shards next week, but in a bit of a different format.
Let us know if there's any interest in a video about the specific characters of Ikoria, a lot of whom I loved dearly, but I didn't want this video to be incredibly long. There truly are some great ones though we could overview, Let us know if there's any interest!

You've really sold me on the lore for this set. I was a little on the edge before but that was a really good breakdown.

Thanks! It's interesting; there seems to have been a bit of a miscommunication between us and WotC; a lot of people don't know about the coolest parts because they never made it onto cards.

I'm not really a Magic player, but I recently stumbled on Ikoria and its lore. After absorbing the official canon lore I felt that especially the Apex Predators felt lacking, insofar their color palettes were concerned. I had questions like "how is Snapdax primarily White if he is a cruel solitary predator?", "Where is there any White, or even much Green in Necroi?" and "Brokkos seems mono Green in everything but it's mechanical ability".
Since then I sat down and made my own headcanon backstory for each of the creatures, while trying to contradict the official lore as little as possible. It's nothing polished yet. Just some stuff scattered in multiple comments in a Reddit thread and one TH-cam comment. If you want I can share with you what I've got though.

I've tried to make a D&D campaign for Ravnica a few years back but I could never get that feeling of adventure with it.
Ikoria's interwoven stories and vastness is inexplicably beautiful and I haven't been this enraptured by a Magic plane ever.
