      @@ravishekkumar6703 yes I did. I was even afraid to look at my family’s faces or my dogs face because it might not look like i remembered. I felt strong depression as well. I would meditate and walk outside but those didn’t seem to help. Meditation maybe helped a bit. Time and doing different things. Volunteering and meeting new people and growing new bonds seemed to help me.

      ​@@motomon9848 i am scared of looking at other people too, especially my family.. and being around people scares me.. and I cant sit still or concentrate on anything either. I then try to be on my phone , and even on my phone I cant watch anything for long without panicking, especially if I am listening or watching and not actively doing anything with my hands. Any advice for this?

    For anyone struggling out there in this comment section, I just want to say that things get better, no matter how impossible that may seem right now. I woke up one morning in the summer of 2022 and within an instant, I had intense DPDR. Any symptom you can think of- I had it. I was only 18 back then and living by myself in a city far from my home for university. I was fully 100% convinced I was going crazy or in a psychosis of some sort. I still have DP/DR right now, however I have had episodes of completely forgetting about my DP/DR and then suddenly out of nowhere It hits me like a bus. My vision has been terrible because of this horrible disorder but I have learned to accept it and I know that I will get better, and so will you. i had it very intense back when I was 15 and it was horrible, however I recovered from it. Recovery is not linear, so do not pay attention to your good days, nor your bad days because DPDR can fluctuate very easily. I have endless sympathy for anyone suffering with this, however remember that IT IS NOT DANGEROUS, no matter how horrible it feels. If anyone want's to chat, just let me know!

    I have autism (and ADHD and a history with depression) and it feels like my Special Interests are faded away. I’m scared of not even being in a position to reclaim them. My confidence is gone, my anxiety attacks are getting worse, i feel like i don’t know who I am anymore. Sometimes i feel better and other times I feel worse.
    The last time I went through this I had the support of my college roommates nearly 24/7, since we were all “autistic weirdos” with similar interests, we all sort of rubbed off on eachother.
    This time I’m alone at home most of the time, and since my interests have already felt like they faded, it’s extremely hard for me to talk about them or even just enjoy them by myself at home like I used to.
    It doesn’t help that at work (I work at a school for special needs kids), my adult coworkers are all neurotypical adults who I share nothing in common with, and actually remind me of they type of people who I haven’t really interacted with since high school (shallow neurotypical types who judge and gossip and stuff). It’s really hard listening to them talking about things, knowing how much I’d usually fully disagree, but not being able to say anything.
    It feels like my memories of who I was only a month ago feel so distant, i feel like my interests either don’t interest me, straight up cause me anxiety, or just feel… wrong. Meanwhile I’m also getting random memories and sensations of much earlier times in my life, childhood and high school and stuff, and those same memories which used to feel nostalgic now just give me anxiety. I feel like I’ll never truly feel emotional the same way I did before, especially compared to the neurotypicals around me who don’t seem to care about anything.
    I’m scared of not really having much opportunity to return to who I was a mere month ago. Or that I’ll never be able to truly be like that ever again.

    Would love to come on and tell my story when I fully recover and I’m on that road to recovery !!!
    Gina really explained this so well
    Really went into great detail
    “Lights were scary, looking in the mirror” all of it is truly like a horror movie like she said.
    I have to live my life so differently because of this.
    Mine got triggered after having my son and a string of other things! I’m now 3 months postpartum and it’s a story I would love to tell to help others Iv talked to many women who experienced this postpartum and it’s not talked about enough during postpartum.
    I totally felt Gina when she said they just give you medication and say “come back in 6 weeks” it’s so isolating 😢
    The professionals are not much help.

    Oh my god, what she said about being scared that she doesn't feel like she's herself anymore! That's exactly what's troubling me now.. I don't experience derealization anymore, I don't feel like I'm outside my body. But I can't remember who I am.. I feel like my memories are not mine, life seems weird and confusing.. I feel like I lost myself. I know I got a lot better than before but there seems to be a few things stuck..

    This shit is killing me 😭 9months down the line l feel so sad l wanna come back to normal l miss my old days when l used to realise myself now l feel lost ever since l travelled to a new country l had panic attack at the plane l started feeling like I couldn’t feel my body driving feels wired sometimes am like how did l arrive here am do everything correctly going to school going to work holding conversations l fear l might die l can’t even recognise my friends or family l see them looking familiar l feel like am loosing my mind l try so sad to be ok but it’s breaking me up I feel weird looking at myself in the mirror l find it weird am doing things but l don’t know how am doing it l feel disconnected from the world l keep on thinking everytime outside looks blurry lights look so bright l feel stuck on my thoughts l can’t even recognise my face voice l don’t know why l am here am not at peace it’s leading to suicidal thoughts 😢l need help whenever l sleep l feel peaceful but being alone sounds scary am just trying my best 😢

      Hey Mildred, thanks for your comment. Firstly, if you are experiencing any thoughts of self-harm, please do speak to a medical professional as soon as possible. Secondly, I know DPDR can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and anxiety, and people experience it all the time. The National Institute on Mental Illness estimates that up to 75% of people experience at least one depersonalization / derealization episode in their lives. It's part of your brain's natural defence mechanism and usually it only lasts a few seconds or minutes at a time. It's only when it's focused on as a separate problem (feeling like you're going crazy / in a dream etc) that it can turn into a feedback loop with the anxiety that caused it in the first place. But no matter what caused it or how long you've had it, you can always switch it off completely by stopping that anxious feedback loop. Make sure to carefully read through all the articles and info on my website at www.dpmanual.com
      And if you would like to speak to a medical professional please don't hesitate to do so. I would recommend finding an anxiety specialist if possible as they will likely be more familiar with DPDR 👍

I have had dpdr for almost a year and whike i have the panic attacks and anxiety under control, those other feelings persist. Any thoughts?

    Hello friend, first I would like to congratulate you for the beautiful work done. I have a doubt, in my case, the depersonalization came after I was diagnosed with OCD. Have you ever seen a case like this? Is it normal for patients with depersonalization to have intrusive thoughts?

    I feel like my family and friends are unfamilar, my house and city in unfamilar...i also feel like im in a strangers body to some extent. Time distortion, memory issues...is this part of dp? I dont hear many talk about mt symptoms much

    A part of me wants to be happy that there are people who are finding relief. And the other part of me is angry because I’ve been living with DPDR for as long as I can remember. And I truly don’t think I will ever get better. And no offense I don’t think a manual book will change that.

    My fight and flight response is unevenly working and speed too for I can't feel things and life has become really hard.
    I'm reading books also but sometimes it does work and sometimes it doesn't.
    Tell me how can I overcome from this whole of DPDR(my studies are stuck and this is the last time that my parents gave me a chance to study and I am suffering and can't study though I went to college many times but it doesn't work and everyday it gets little worst off.
    Please help me.
    I have seen so many ups and downs and now this.
    Life has stopped.
    If someone could save me I shall pray hell everyday for him/her.
    I hate this life.

    If someone can please help. I had depersonalization for about two years. I did recover. Thank goodness. However now my 16 year old daughter now has OCD and Depersonlization. She has a phsycholigist and an OCD councilor. But nothing has helped. Would Shawn’s DP Manual help her? I am seeking anything to help her.

    I have Bad panics and DPDR. Can DPDR change your behavior and who you are ? Like the opposite of you are ? Like bad emotions . Anger and numbness? I don't anyone talk about personality changes and emotions related to dpdr and anxiety . I feel like I wanna go on a dang antipsychotic feels like I'm loosing my mind and who I am. It's terrible . From the time I wake up to the time I go to bed.

    Mine was triggered by existential questions because of a video I seen.. Iv been in panic for 2 months and now I have depersonalization which makes it worse. Has anyone else had this triggered by reality/existential questions first?

      @@CourtneySDawn I also had this question about 2 months ago. I haven't yet overcome the fear but I now look at it as a completely normal thing to happen to anyone and my reaction to that question was also very normal(being frightened) and that at the end of the day it's just a thought and the only problem is me catastrophizing it. I'm now working on overcoming my anxiety viewing this experience as a lesson. I hope this helps and that you recover soon!

      @@Memepoint. Thankyou, that’s great your doing better. For me it seems to have just morphed into different existential thoughts and now just this hyperawareness of consciousness and confusion about the nature of reality. Something that’s always been uncertain and always will be but somehow now my brains fixated on demanding answers.
