Everyone questions setting up camper trailers, it’s packing up which is more of a pain, especially when wet, and then having to open to dry outer when you get home

I have wondered about this. does the bedding get wet after having the wet canvas sitting on it?

great info, ive got an op4 and love it, did cape york last august ,towed mint through starke track to cape melville, frenchmans, ott and old coach road, super capable camper, even dragged it down gunshot handled it with ease, havent regretted anything buying the opus yet

I think everyone forgets, the time consuming part when camping is all the little bits and pieces you bring. Not to mention, unhooking, hooking up, tieing stuff down on the boat rack, connecting water and drain pipe for sink, stablizer legs, leveling, ground matts, chairs, tables. Etc etc.
I have a Jackson FF camper which the basic setup like you guys did can set up in the same time if not less. Just all the bits and bobs take time like mentioned above. Defo need one for a family, makes life easy when youre away with them on the road!

I agree. Also the levelling can take some time especially if the store site isn't level. Also the positioning of the camper to your liking can take some time (and on some occasions becomes a marriage counselling session 😅).
What we learnt after using 2 different style is campers that, it's not the camper that's time consuming, but all the "junk" that we carry to make camping more comfortable that we need to set up, pack up and store that takes time.

We hired one for a week and they are great for what they are. Pretty much do everything they advertise (fast, easy, high tech) although they do have some compromises. We found that for a pretty expensive camper the componentry was cheap and cheerful (Chinese). All the carpentry was laminated plywood and falling apart from vibrations. The fridge and draw slides were jamming up and little things like draw buttons, hinges and locks didn't work very well or were broken. My 2c. Apart from the little things it was convenient, comfortable and quick.

Great review, after owning one for 6 months I totally agree with you, well worth it for the convenience. I like the outdoor kitchen as I dislike cooking odors inside. Setup very easily, pack up always a breeze. This was particularly handy when you had to pack up wet and setup again at home to dry it.

Excellent info, especially about the comparison of daily move to setting up for a week. For such a high price model I would be concerned about the wear of the canvas and those air tubes over time. The air tubes seem to be proprietary and trying to debug & fix a leak would require help from Opus, which would mean paying proprietary replacement prices. I noticed nothing bad was said about the air tubes, if those are susceptible to slow leaking and if the air pump does an auto refresh once in a while or if owner has to watch it and refresh it occasionally. One minus is, for road tripping and stopping off at a rest stop you can't jump into it and take a sleep break without setting it up, which would not be stealth camping. Every one would know you are "camping." It would also be a camping fail if you got on site and the air pump was broke or broke down while on site or if a major pole developed a significant leak. If one air pole leaks will all the structure collapse? I did not hear if the pump was required to deflate it rapidly or not. Also did not hear anything about what would be reasonable lowest temperatures to use this model in. Would be interesting if Opus were to make one similar that is same low profile shape but all pop up structure that could be hand cranked. With all the outside showers for these type of models, I am not sure why the manufacturers don't provide a custom add on shower canvas space. On your demo site, it looks like you are in Australia, I though man that is right on the water there and here comes a croc running out of the water to grab a leg. The Opus brand seems pretty good, I recently became aware of them. Thanks for putting out a video and sharing your experience.

hi mate, just a heads up, DO NOT TAKE A OPUS TO THE CAPE, or any decent 4wd tracks. base on my experience, the camper burst 2 air beams, bent the chasis, twisted the box part of the trailer. all on the firt day of the frenchmans track. couldnt attempt the OTT. also busted 2 rims like you did on fraiser island and i didnt hit anything with them.
I did a lot of reasearch and based on the advise from the sales team at opus, their words "this is what this camper is deisgned for: they assured me it would handle the cape and that people dont use them to their full protential. When they show the video of the opus team on the cape ask how many campers they actully destroyed in the filming of thoes videos
the warranty is no worth the paper is written on. they just claimed misuse and they get out of it. my brother has a mdc and handled all the tracks even gun shot and didnt miss a beat. his camper is a 2016 we brought a brand new opus and i can tell you, with my experience careful what you believe about this camper lucky we had good insurance from club 4x4 couldnt recommend them highly enough if you buy an op4 you will need it

Nah i can’t stand all these types of campers. I want the cooker & sink inside the van like the jayco swift or similar. Out pig chasen around Bourke & up to Qld the amount flies at summer is insanity & cook’n outside flies are everywhere & then when it’s raining ya gotta cook outside, yeh ya gotta annex but Whatta hassle if ya just pulled up overnight somewhere. Nothin better than being able to sit inside & cook inside in those situations. These vans are basically a roof top tent on a trailer & mad crazy expensive.

Guys, thanks for posting a good practical vid. What are dislikes or what would you modify on the camper to better suit your needs?
Did you find the 100A/Hr lithium battery had enough capacity or would you change to 200A/Hr? Were you charging with solar?
Was it an option to have the full annex as well?
What was the additional cost for the Diesel Heater? How does this go for water crossings, Any leakage or do you have block-off valves for the the exhaust and air intake?

We came close to getting one of these.
    Issue we found with this:
    1. Not a lot internal storage for clothing and other personal effects.
    2. The bedding is uncomfortable, the mattress is too firm and the length too short on the Opus. If you are a tall person and prefer to sleep in a north-south orientation, your feet will be hanging off the edge.

By the time she finishes unlatching all these clips to open the tent, the SYLVAN GO tent has been 80% setup already. This is a waste of money. To flimsy. Has to wait for the dang air to inflate. And worst they say it deflates throughout the day. If OPUS is serious about a tent trailer, why don't they create a mechanical tent that pop-ups using some sort of Japanese origami mechanical style tent. Otherwise this is to bulky and heavy. It's a nice design but the process is too much.

Mate bought a new Pioneer camper in 2005, and I bought a tired but strong CampoMatic, for our Cape trip. He paid $28,500, I paid $15,000, and spent about $1,000 for new bearings and brakes.
