we sell all of our shavings to local farmers who use them for horses, chickens, gardens etc. I sell my bags (22" x 36") for $7.00 each or 10 for $60.00. It pays for the gas for my processor. Can't keep them on my lot. To fill the bags I use a metal horse scoop, works like a charm. I process the shavings right into my tractor bucket and fill the bags as I go. You should make some Firestarter with the saw dust. Mix some diesel and the dust and package in smaller bags and sale 2 dollars a bag. You can give complimentary starter kits for new customers

Good morning Chris!!😀😀 Those ash trees that grow out in the open really split hard. But it does make nice firewood. Might have to take the gland off the rod and replace the O ring that seals it. I've had that happen more than once and the only way to get it to stop leaking is to replace it. It's not a big job to replace it on your cylinder. Just have to take the pusher off and unscrew the gland enough to get the old one out and slip the new one on and tighten it down really tight with a big pipe wrench. I really enjoyed Ken’s measuring system. I’ve found the black curly ones are the thickest at .0035 of an inch. Blonde straight ones are .0015 plus or minus .0004”

In my humble opinion, splitting firewood is a fine family activity. I get the feeling that when ken uses his own splitter again he'll love your eastonmade even more.
You may want to look at heat log production which is made just with wood shavings and saw dust. In the UK they are getting popular due to small storage requirements and its a waste product that usually has very low moisture so better for the environment and the chimney. The first guy I get mine from was making £5000 a year from his heat logs. The machine cost him £5000 to buy so payback was very short
Sharpen your splitter blade to 14 degrees on both sides. It will make smoother cuts. Most knots and crotches will cut straight through. My homemade splitter is 14 degrees on both sides with a 1/32" flat face cutter edge. I can tell from watching this video, compared to my splitter, you will be impressed with the improvement. Our local votec school machine shop class sharpened mine for free. I enjoy your vids.
I put about a 3" layer of wood chips on my vegetable garden to surprise the weeds. It does a good job. It's not a fix all, I still have to pull some weeds but it helps a lot. John from Wilmington, DE.
Hey Chris, nice team today. I’ll have to watch out for that cylinder issue on my 12-22. I’ve had a few leaks already. Some from loosening nuts from vibrations and one from a bad o-ring. I’ve noticed a few o-rings were a bit thin so as I replace them as I go with a thicker one and that seems to help. I’m sure you’ll find that o-ring on your cylinder may be shot since you noticed it late and tightened it after it was well backed off. No worries, we all have to learn from experience with our new equipment. I love these Eastonmade machines. Any info I can offer I will always give you as you have helped me and so many others out here. Keep it up brother!! I’m on vacation with my wife right now in Shelter Island, NY and on our drive out here I saw a beautiful tree with a huge spread. Firewood brings families closer together. Especially when it's cold! My son dropped by to help me split the massive pile of White Oak while I sawed up a 30 in. Cherry tree that came out of an ancient graveyard. I had 3 of the 9 ft. Logs in the bed of my F250 V 10 Trident. It squatted pretty good but toted the load! Went you get a big chuck of firewood, get ken or yourself lift it higher up on your wedge . It’s break it’s easy or half of your wedge . That what I do on real big stuff . Look like you got a 8” or 10” wedge . If the chunk are heavy pull a pc wood in front off wedge so you don’t have to hold it’s up Chris and KEN . HOPE this help you out in the future. Take CARE .
What type wood are you splitting? I have a Timberwolf splitter with a 25 ton hyd. system,hardly ever split with just the two-way wedge. I have to with the large elm chunks. I enjoy your channel. I'm in SW Wisconsin
I was just happy to find a guy who had horses and would take my sawdust. About 1000 Gallons a week. I had a hopper that ould held 35, forty gallon bags of sawdust and I filled it once a week and he came and got it. I always had to make sure there was NO walnut in it. Best horse bedding as it won't breakdown like straw and you never had mud. I worked out of my house and could not have a big dumpster. I lived in the heart of Phoenix, residential.
The 3 of you got lot done. I was thinking Kenny was there it be a processor day. Looks like maybe that fixed the pusher hitting the wedge also. Nice work stay cool.
Just as a suggestion (but might not fit with how you do things): When we get to crotches we cut as close to the Y top and bottom, as straight as possible, and then often cut it in half again, effectively making a couple extra “thinner” discs of crotch. It does mean you have some odd sizes, but they either split much easier as they’re such short rounds, or if the branches are small enough they go straight on the fire! Splitting crotches at full log length is a PITA!! 👍
Many hands make light work. Count your fingers at the end of the day just to be sure you have them all. It got pretty busy in front of the wedge at moments. The chickens will be happy...

Sawdust: do 'Pay As You Feel'. You may be surprised how much folks give you for a bag. I use a 'guided PAYF' for my gardening and composting work - I suggest a 20kg sack of mature, hand-sorted food waste compost would be between £10 and £20 - and loads of people give me £20 !!! So if you say a big sack of premium sawdust (ie, all uniform size, and fresh) is between one and ten dollars, 'You Decide', quite a few folks will give you $20 for 4, I'm guessing. Try it.

All of that extra help really made a big difference in dealing with all of that gnarled crotch wood. Despite the extra work, you ended up with some really nice firewood! When I’m in tight quarters like that, I like a couple of those fat rounds next to me on top of which someone can stage rounds that I can laterally move to the knife instead of me moving wood from the ground. I’m still dreaming about a table that feeds a splitter and a small crane and grapple to lift heavy rounds onto the table. Table needs to be slick metal or have rollers to slide rounds.
This type cylinder almost always has a small set screw that keeps the gland from backing out. Probably on the bottom where you won't see it unless you look for it. Also turn that chain wrench over, it might work better. Don't use a pipe wrench on a gland, get or make a proper tool!
All I’m splitting at the moment is gnarly stringy white oak on a tractor mounted 18t splitter. It might be good firewood eventually but it’s vile nasty muck to cut and split so anyone dealing with gnarly firewood gets my sympathy.
On moving IBCs I have seen people with a standard bucket if you can get one side into the bucket and then use a rope/ratchet strap on the top to stop the IBC tilting forwards as you lift it. I would get nervous if you had 2 tones of honey in the IBC but saw dust would not weigh that much,
@@InTheWoodyard could make it out of aluminum or wood. Unless it doesn't take to long to fill a bag. A 5gal bucket wouldn't be to bad either to load up and pour in a bag. Work smarter not hard, good idea on using those bins smarter then what I have seen people use them for.
Another thing watching this video, ken always pick out the BIG block off firewood for EASTONMADE. KEN should be on EASTONMADE 22MB for the day , clean up all your 8’ 4 “ logs .
Forgot when customer would come in they would pick up stuff on ground and some would bring five gallon bucket use for kindling to start fire just gave it to them some would give me five bucks say your lunch money

If you have hickory saw dust, and it is dry , it could be sold for smoking meat. Could be a higher price than wood.

All I’m splitting at the moment is gnarly stringy white oak on a tractor mounted 18t splitter. It might be good firewood eventually but it’s vile nasty muck to cut and split so anyone dealing with gnarly firewood gets my sympathy.
Yup, white oak can be tough!!
On moving IBCs I have seen people with a standard bucket if you can get one side into the bucket and then use a rope/ratchet strap on the top to stop the IBC tilting forwards as you lift it.
I would get nervous if you had 2 tones of honey in the IBC but saw dust would not weigh that much,

@@InTheWoodyard could make it out of aluminum or wood. Unless it doesn't take to long to fill a bag. A 5gal bucket wouldn't be to bad either to load up and pour in a bag. Work smarter not hard, good idea on using those bins smarter then what I have seen people use them for.

I have never seen Ash so stringy...usually is nice and clean to split..maybe it only NH Ash that splits nice!!!! Haha
