    Do you incorporate hills into your weekly routine?

      I live on a hill in Sicily similar to the Amalfi coast. If you get usual running here you can run everywhere!🦾😉I 💚running (and hills!)🤗

      Yes- My week end long run includes heart break hill (Sydney City2Surf)....and if feeling brave i head down to Watson's Bay and come back up with road that loops behind... 400m elevation by time I get home.

      I’m beginning to incorporate them on a more regular basis.

      I don't right now, but I've been looking into adding hill work and this video was super helpful! Thanks!

      I´m lucky that my hometown (Bolzano, northern Italy) is surrounded by hills. 🍀😎✌

    About six weeks ago I started adding to my weekly workout 10x hill reps for about 30 seconds each, plus a 5k tempo run. It helped so much that I started getting 5k PRs during the tempo workouts. Definitely gonna keep doing both!

    It’s quite hilly in my area. I felt great passing others runners who were walking up the bridges during my last half marathon race. Those hills at home definitely prepared me well. 😊

    My club have Hill sessions every Thursday. They are excellent workouts. They also get you used to running up hills faster. It’s great when I overtake other runners in the uphill sections. Hard work but definitely worth it

    I did Ashton court parkrun for 6 weeks in a row getting 3 PB’s in the process. Went to a flatter parkrun as didn’t feel like doing the hill and took 56 seconds off my 5K PB that I’d set 4 months earlier in November!

      The hills might not be that high, but I struggle to have a nice flat run!

      In Central Florida, we run bridges. We're lucky enough to have several in my area with separate pedestrian lanes. There's some pedestrian overpasses that work decently well too.

    Love/hate hills! If I don't have enough time for a full interval session at the track I'll do a hill workout to get the results I need for my training cycle.

    We live in a Pittsburgh PA suburb and it is ALL hills. While I don't have specific days for hill running, all of my weekly runs involve hills.

    Phew good timing! I just did my local park that has lots of hills...and optimistically did it two days in a row 🤪 My calves are angry at me! Seeing your speed up those hills though was encouraging and inspiring! Eager to try a more targeted hill workouts soon!

    This is a great video. I have a big hill at the end of my country road here in New Zealand - it uses me about 6 mins to run up the whole thing, and then run back down. A lot of our races are quite hilly over here, so need to incorporate it!

    Fleet Feet’s training plays a game: hill repeats to the top, collect a playing card, jog down. Exchange a card after four cards if desired -at the end we lay out our cards poker style. Gives you reasons to keep going. Prizes awarded.

    Being geographically challenged in the Fens - what's a hill? - I'd mention that equally effective (if not providing as good views) are intervals on a treadmill slope. Tempo runs on a gentler slope (eg 3%) are also good, as they also provide higher effort at lower speed - you can certainly feel the extra force in the posterior chain!

  • @markvickers9677

    What incline should I be aiming for on a treadmill as a new runner?

    Are hill intervals only good in short distances? I have been trying intervals on a long hill near me, but not sure if it's "worth" it

    • @Not_So_Common_Sense

      Long hills (2-4 minutes around 5K effort) are THE BEST for distance runners.

    How do you plan these on your watch? Do you hit pause or the circuit button when you get to the recovery interval between hill reps?

    Last week, I used a circuit that rises 8 meters over 100 meters of climbing (topping out at 15% grade), then circles back. Took around 35 seconds to run up. HR reached around 93% of max HR. *Is that too short a climb*? (I would walk for 10 meters after topping the hill, then jog back to the start of the hill; was wondering if maybe I should keep jogging the whole way to make it a bit more intense.)

  • @dcdno_one2393
    @dcdno_one2393 ปีที่แล้ว

    Grass hills are even more intense.

    How does running on an incline on a treadmill translate to running hills outdoors?

    • @runningchannel
      @runningchannel  ปีที่แล้ว

      Running on a treadmill with an incline is a great alternative to hills!

  • @jarekbatkowski9039

    It's not reps nor intervals nor hills doing magic but aerobic endurance training and balance between training and rest plus many more factors.

    There's only one road around me that's a hill, and it's twice as steep as what you ran up. I'm buggered just walking up it! Not sure if I could run it? I may die 😅
