You saved My life for a 250 i disassembled an entire year ago. Frustrating is the right word to describe the assembly. It happens my reel miss (from when i bought it used) the spring preload washer and the retaining clips of the bearings. I gave you a follow you are the clock maker of reels.
Would you know where I could order the 2 plastic idler gears from? Such a great resource you have provided. Not sure I could have done it without this video.
fishshop.shimano.com is usually my first go for Shimano reels. If they dont have the part, try eReplacement Parts, Mikesreelrepair.com, and ebay. You will need the part number off the schematic.
Hey .... I have only taken the handle side plate off and now I cannot get it to go back on correctly with free spool and normal function, I have copied your instruction , I just got I back from repair $60 twice and the second time being now it seized up due to a mechanism obviously stuck so I corrected it easily but now can’t get side plate back on... if I sit the spool in handle side and crank or freespool it’s fine / only issue when I sandwich it all back together???
Try this first: You need to push your clutch plate into the release position, and make sure your thumb bar is all the way up, when mating the side plate and the frame back up. This ensures the bar for the thumb bar is above the clutch plate. Check out 40:37 and it shows you what I mean here. Let me know if that doesn't work and I can suggest another solution.
Bayou Reels yes I did exactly what you show in the video and I’ve attempted it at least 20 times . If I place the spool into the free right side plate everything functions perfectly silently the issue is when I put it together/ what’s the other option?? And thank you very much for your time and response !
Firstly, you need to attach the side plate to the black set plate first and screw those two together. If that is where you are having issues, then something is out of place. If that is assembled correctly, and your problem is to screw that assembly back onto the frame, then the exposed screws that would attach it to the frame might be in the way. Try lifting them "up" or "out" as you place the side plate assembly back onto the frame. They can get in the way. Once it sits flush you can use those screws to attach it. Let me know if that solution works.
Bayou Reels hey man thanks again, if you could give me an email address I can send you a video easily ... it s when I go to assemble the side plate to frame with spool in place ( the set plate is fine functional) . I’ve tried to put the spool on with the side plate rather than the spool in frame / it all goes together and all screws fastened , all functions but there’s friction somewhere on spool ..
BAYOURATT REEL SERVICE IS CLOSED FOR BUSINESS
Never realized how many small parts are in these. Cool video man!
Thanks DUKE. Im trying to cut out some more time to make more of these videos.

Nice job now I know where to send my Calcutta conquest so you can do a video. Very thorough video. Just got yourself another subscriber.
Awesome, thank you!
thank you so much for this video !!
I could repair my calcutta and clear as a new one !!!
Thanks man, glad you could repair your reel.
I noticed at 37:21 that the small brass washer that was in the top left corner disappeared, was that the wash that goes under the palm side bearing?
Good Video! You ain't lived until you have tried to take one of these apart and put it back together again and it don't work right.
And I gotta say, Calcuttas are some of the most frustrating for me, especially the Conquest line.
Your videos on the disassembly and reassembly of Calcutta 200 reels is very helpful. I am working on an old Calcutta 250, which is very similar.
Ha! Calcutta reels are nothing for frustration compared to an old big Rochester Quadrajet 4 bbl Carbuerator!
How would you suggest extracting one of the side plate bolts that’s stripped?
Would you know where I could order the 2 plastic idler gears from?

Where do you go for parts, specifically bearings?
What size bearing goes on the spool behind the pin?
thank you, thank you, thank you
Do you know if there’s any reason that the free spool wouldn’t be working? I’ve reassembled it correctly but it won’t free spool
thanks you got me out of problem
