      What might help is for telehealth providers to stop giving out adderall like it’s candy 😒

    • @ethandolph4688
      @ethandolph4688 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@courtonabudget Adderall is an effective treatment for stimulating the understimulated ADHD brain and helps ADHD people complete tasks necessary to maintain a life, regulate our emotions, drive safely, remember where we leave crucial items and documents, listen to important information and people we care about, maintain relationships and so much more. It's as much a treatment for ADHD as insulin is for diabetes. ADHD people die by suicide all the time, for many Adderall could be what makes the difference. The "giving out like candy" you're talking about is an approximately 20% increase in prescriptions, driven by increased awareness of adult ADHD. Many wouldn't be able to receive psychiatric treatment covered by their insurance without telehealth making more options available. There is no way I could get psychiatric help locally that's covered by my specific insurance and so be able to afford it. Telehealth makes treatment possible for me. And yes, I am prescribed ADHD medication, as well as bipolar medication that has kept me alive after multiple close calls with suicidal ideation. Psychiatrists only prescribe to people who are diagnosed with mental illness. You don't know better than me or my psychiatrist and the fact you would like to see treatment of people like me curbed is both infuriating and scary. Sentiments like yours are exactly why this shortage that is upending the lives of ADHD people and putting us through painful withdrawals isn't being taken seriously, or is framed as a result of too much acknowledgment and treatment of our mental illness.

  • @missvida6251
    @missvida6251 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    The reason they don't have enough supply is because the demand (amount of ADHD diagnoses) has increased in the last 2 years due to telehealth. The DEA makes the same amount as before. People are being prescribed ADHD meds when they do not suffer from ADHD. It is simple supply and demand. It's not the deas fault. When people blame the DEA, I just automatically claim those are the ones who were diagnosed via telehealth and don't need the meds.
