Clerics: the regular middle managers of HeavenCorp. Entered at the bottom of the ladder and worked their way up to where they start getting some power.
Celestial Warlocks: the subcontractors. Hired by a department head or a VP for their skills that the rank-and-file employees don't have.
Divine Souls: the nepo-babies.
Paladins are the security guards.
This is the one time Nepo Baby might actually work for Sorcerer. Which is why I don't like Divine Soul. The fun of Sorcerer is having your own powers. Being tied to a god just feels like a cleric with, less steps? Unfortunately its also the only sorcerer who can do proper necromancy. So you end up using it way more than you expected.
@Merilirem Lucky, the sorcerer class says that a player can be the progenitor of the line. Most of the X-men qualify. I know of a paladin who justified their multiclassing into Divine Soul as a side effect of constant use of Divine Smite.

Sorcerer is slowly becoming my favorite class in D&D. I always play Sorcerers as being like Jedi, with inherent abilities. In the case of Divine Soul, it's like tapping into the Force.
Mix that Sorcerer with some Paladin or Fighter and you really do got a medieval Jedi

My only issue with sorcerer is that they don't get animate dead. You can't be a necromancer unless you do the whole divine soul thing and that just kinda sucks.

I played an Aasimar Divine Soul once who was an ancient minor god who hit snooze too much during his godly nap and his whole religion died out.
He woke with only the faintest spark pf divinity (giving him the race and subclass) and his goal through the campaign was to gather enough followers to get his immortality back.
He was basically Aqua from Konosuba. Super funny character to roleplay. He demanded prayers from the rest of the party to help out, but mostly he just got bullied.
This was my journey reading this:
“Interesting backstory but wow that can get annoying and cringe really fast. I wonder what else is menti-“
“He was like Aqua”
“10/10 character, I want them at my table!”
“Hey, GM! Hey GM!!”
“Yes, I am the GM...”

Before the Aberrant Mind, Divine Soul was my favorite Sorcerer. So versatile and blasty.
I've seen a divine soul tear apart a literal army of monsters, demons and champions, all the while casually bringing it's allied forces back from the dead or close to it, these things are the closest a player can get to being an actual celestial deity, and they are terrifying

I am one of the few that think the Divine Soul is the most powerful of Sorcerers and maybe one of the strongest in the game if you use it right. But the best part is that there are so many toes they step on that they are born to cause fun stories.
This series helped me a lot when I was deciding what class to pick for a ongoing campaign i picked a drake warden and the episode on this channel about it helped out a tone
Best DSS move, quicken Bless, dodge, profit.
I honestly love the combo of Quicken Guiding Bolt with Firebolt it scales well, and only using a level 1 spell slot and 2 sorcery points, it's a great mini boss killer

Literally starting a new campaign with a Divine Soul Sorcerer sworn to Sune. Social Rizz, Healing, Charms and Crowd Control, Radiant spells and Heavenly Allies. I am very looking forward to this campaign lol.
How is it going so far?
The best part about this subclass is that it has full access to the best damage type in the game - radiant. Nothing is outright immune, and the largest group of creatures resistant to it are basically your kin.
Thanks to this, you could be a Sorcerous Necromancer.

i'm new to the channel and the game (i've played in a few games, one campaign almost finished) but i love your work here, thank you for everything you do and i've sought out my go to classes (bard and fighter, though i also have an interest in artificier) i'm glad i saw your videos and you had nice things for everyone, i stressed about a few videos saying "oh no is this class/subclass that's bad but i like them?"

In 3.5 the Divine soul sorcerer ( called Geomancer in the 3rd edition spellcaster book) actually had some weird variations on origin. You could be born with it or gain them by being in a pact with a god to gain their power. But it does require following the God's tenets and rules to use them or your demoted to regular sorcerer.
That’s one way to build a fallen Aasimar character in the Realm of Theros as a Champion Character.

I know. There are so many fantastic subclasses left out in BG3 and I only learn of them now, after diving deeper into DnD.
Not to mention so many amazing races like Aasimar, Genashi, Yuan-Ti, Tabaxi...
I know that it theoretically it maybe very resource-consuming to add 20+ races and 50+ subclasses, work out mechanics and extra lines of dialogue, but still, a shame.

This is also the only way to be able to cast both Symbol AND Forbiddence as the same character. Stun with symbol every enemy and gorce them to say and die inside the Forbiddence cage
In their defense, Clerics are a HELL of a lot tougher in a line of battle.
One of my Favorite builds was a Life cleric 1/ Divine Soul Sorcerer 5. I skilled 15 Strength (14 +1 Race), 10 Dexterity, 16 Constitution (15+1 Talent Level 5), 8 Intelligence, 12 Wisdom, 16 Charisma (14+2 Race). The play was casting Aura of Life (Sometimes with Extended Metamagic) and used my Bonus Action to heal 2d6+5 nearly every Turn. This worked great in our party, especially with our bear-totem barbarian, but it worked best out of combat. With extended Metamagic I could heal an average of 240 in just 2 Minutes for the low cost of one 3rd-level Spellslot (I had three because of multiclass) and 1 Sorcery-point (five by that time). This was our go-to strat in dungeons, no risky rests needed. Also I was typical cleric-tanky with heavy armour and shield.
You can't multiclass from/to cleric with less than 13 wisdom btw

But in all seriousness, my twin played a divine soul in a zelda campaign I dmed, and I felt kinda bad cause I didn't want to seem like I was favoring him, but he was just so good, and could do everything it felt like.
That a cool thumbnail it is always interesting to see like devilish or evil characters using the power of good or in this case themselves 🤔

My only complaint about this great subclass is the small number of known spells for sorcerer having to balance their own spell list and the huge list of cleric spells they can add.
6:58 Flip those around. You'd have to Quickened Spell the big spell and then have your Action for the cantrip.
Also, Bewitchers of the Beach might be your best nickname for them yet. 🤣

I want to play an Orc Divine Soul who adventures to avoid having his tribe gouge out his eye. He's convinced them he wants it to be more honorable to Gruumsh by "earning it in battle." But a jealous shaman keeps trying to "help" (orchestrate my death), so I have to watch out for some elves that got "an anonymous tip" to my presence, paid mercenaries, or whatever.

I really want to know why there isnt a Fey Sorcerer sub class, because it would fit the feywild and beings like Eladrin perfectly, where magic is as natural as breathing.
[EDIT: also why the sorcerer doesnt have a gish / sword mage subclass, because they would be the perfect magic class for that because they would have way more time to train with a sword (no wasted time learning spells, or worshipping a god]
(I know wild magic could sorta, kinda be seen as coming from the feywild, but its a totally unique and special mechanic and also has no real lore link.
I'm thinking something like the way Dragon Soul is intricately tied into dragons and Dragon lore, but for the Fey.
I just wanna be a necromancer and divine soul is the only good choice.

DSS combined with Warlock can also optimize the coffeelock build even more than other sorcerers since they know Greater Restoration.

You don't even need to go full coffeelock either, as this build is ALSO a great necromancer build even if you don't take Greater Restoration. Like, a Warlock 3/Divine Soul Sorc X can short-rest cast animate dead by trading in its 2nd level warlock slots for sorcery points, and then trading those sorcery points for 3rd level spell slots. Meaning if you go with Elf or Reborn as your race (always choose Reborn for flavor if you can) so you only need to long rest for 4 hours (meaning the other 4 hours the rest of your party is forced to long rest you can do all your undead reanimation), you can basically just get a small army of minions for free, without having to invest any spell slots into them like a necromancer wizard is forced to do. Granted, the wizard will still have more and better undead than you, but you get to have your undead army basically at no cost/completely free and thus have all your spell slots to play with each day, while the wizard has to effectively permanently invest their spell slots into their minions, forcing them to chose between having their minions or casting things like counterspell or hypnotic patter. With this build, thats a choice you don't have to make!

Let's not forget that with the Subtle spell Metamagic option, If you cast a spell and the evil wizard casts Counterspell, you can cast Counterspell with this Metamagic and probably raise a middle finger at them while you do it cuz there's no way they're stopping what's coming at them. Plus I like the idea of a Tiefling, a child of a demon or devil, being blessed by a god or divine being. Or you could just be Half-Tiefling and Half-Aasimar.

I want a sorcerer subclass that also is good in melee
I'm working on a Half-Orc "Comfortmancer" NPC: DS Sorlock, celestial patron, splashes of life cleric and Shepard druid. His entire shtick is the best traveling innkeeper this side of the world. Glyphs of warding onto the tables, with Beacon of Hope and Aura of Vitality, He casts Goodberry, Aid and Heroes Feast, Word of Recall. His Patron is a Goddess of Hospitality and Hosts. She likes this idea of a traveling innkeeper, and makes sure to bless his activities where she can.
So. I can multiclass without multiclassing 😁
I played this subclass in Heavy Armor with a Life Cleric 2 dip, coupling with Twin Polymorph and a Twin Blight (when surrounded). It made him perfect to act as a wall, support, and even fair damage (my party's rogues did most of that).
Then add in that he was a Raduant Soul Aasimar. He was flying during fights even before 14 if mobility was ever needed. I will recommend this subclass to anyone looking to try support, new or experienced.

One correction: you cant quicken a cantrip and cast a spell as your action. Casting a spell, of any level (including catrips), as a bonus action, prohibits you from casting ANY spell (including reactions) except a cantrip with a casting time of 1 action

im glad you didn't gloss over divine soul's offensive potential, like twinned guiding bolt or heightened harm, but where i think it peaks is multiclassing into paladin. Not only could you use meta magic on your smites (specifically the smite spells not divine smite, though you should check with the dm just in case), but the combination of spirit guardians on an already incredibly strong melee class is bonkers. And since you're already a sorcerer, you have proficiency in con saves so breaking concentration is that much harder.

Man, the class that i was never interested in was sorcerer, i have such a small brain for uses of metamagic. And i just thought divine soul was just a worse cleric, but you've opened my eyes man, i should never sleep on metamagic

yeah these guys are my go to for I want to play a healer without playing a priest (or bard).
Also i just enjoy being able to play a Sorcadin with a good branding too, because if you're going to Nova like a god, you might as well look like one too.
Still haven't tried sorcerer yet. Aberrant Mind or Clockwork are on my list. This one is runner up.
