    It’s really nice seeing this work with the kids! Your type A planning and all the info you give in your videos sometimes seems like a lot so it’s so great to see how the kids actually get through everything (and pretty stress free too)!

      😂😂 I tell everyone I’m Type A upfront so things move smoothly in our day to day 😅 I’m glad I was able to share our true day with yall! 🥰

    I love your homeschool day ❤ I’ve been contemplating if we should go ahead with blossom and root for science because we just can’t seem to find the right one. We use mystery science and it’s great but we need more than that. We flew through it so fast 😂
    I’m intrigued with the McGuffey readers now that I see how you do that in person. We also use ordinary parents guide as well.
    I’m impressed that you can fit all of that in just one day. ❤ awesome job! My boys are 6 and 4 1/2 years old so it’s still a bit chaotic and they are boys 😂.

    • @MaryBarfield
      @MaryBarfield  8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Aww thanks girl! I haven’t used or looked into Mystery Science so I can’t give you my opinion on how they compare, but I just did a review & look inside the Blossom and Root level 0 Space science video that we are doing this year. That video is going live tomorrow morning - so that might be helpful for you to see! If your boys are into space that will be perfect for them now/next year! We are big fans of B+R science and will be doing level 2 next year!
      I honestly am so grateful we found the McGuffey readers! They are super easy to implement and don’t drive my kids insane because they are quick lessons the way we do it.
      Don’t worry there is chaos in our homeschool (more specifically during transitions, which I didn’t really show, and towards the end of our school day they get antsy 😅). Thanks for watching and your kind words! 🥰

    Man, I need to channel even an ounce of the patience you have for your children. I have a first grader and kindergartener both boys and while we do get math and language arts done I find I dread it terribly because it’s just so chaotic and we never can get to anything else by the time we make it through just the two subjects. I hate that it’s this way and I’m hoping with a little more time they’ll stir up the desire to learn and we can have more magical homeschool moments.

    • @MaryBarfield
      @MaryBarfield  9 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      It’s funny you say that, because I feel like I need to be more patient 😅 I think as moms we unintentionally put added pressure on ourselves and always feel like we could be better when in reality we are doing a fantastic job! So give yourself grace and know you are doing an amazing job! For 1st and kindergarten, if all you get done each day is LA and Math, you are doing great - everything else is gravy! But if you want to try and reduce the chaos (which was basically the name of the game for us last year 😅), I found if I give the learner I’m not working with something to do (magnatiles, Barbie’s, let them run around outside while I work on the porch with the other), it helps everyone involved 🥰 but sometimes at this young age, it’s just about getting the bare minimum done.

    I really enjoyed this video! Love what you incorporate into your day. We watched the inauguration as well and explained parts of it so they remember how important it is.
    Do you have the yoto mini? If so did you see the recall on the battery? If you fill out the battery replacement on line they’ll send you a new (battery) one and $20 voucher.

      Yes! I loved the beautiful feet freebie mini unit - it helped me point out the most important bits about and the importance of the inauguration ceremony! We do have the Yoto mini but we just got the most recent version so it was free from the battery recall thankfully 😅🙏🏻

    Loved this as others have said to see a true day as homeschoolers… not to mention I have a 2nd grader also. 😊 what curriculum did you use for your oldest to learn to read?

    • @MaryBarfield
      @MaryBarfield  7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it! I used all 3 levels of Elemental Phonics (amzn.to/4hdAJxB) as our main phonics curriculum for my 2nd grader. She finished that at a little over the halfway mark of 1st grade and she’s just been reading a little bit everyday to help practice and hone her phonics skills. As you can see from my video I also ask her to read aloud certain things in our curriculum even if it’s a little bit of a stretch for her to help her practice further.

    I don’t remember seeing you give any info on your mom cart in any prior videos. I have problems keeping my books upright like you have done with yours. Looks like maybe cardboard book organizers on both ends to keep the books upright and easier to organize?

    • @MaryBarfield
      @MaryBarfield  7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes! The cardboard magazine organizers are literally the only way all my books and curriculum don’t fall over 😂. These are the ones I have and I have been super happy with the quality and durability of them: amzn.to/4hcLf8u - the way I have used my mom cart has evolved over the first part of this school year, but I’ve finally got it organized in a way that fits the way our school operates. I may do a video on it if that would be of interest, now that I finally have it the way I want it lol.

    History channel does have a TH-cam channel I learned a lot of ancient history from that channel years ago). Especially in my silent barely talking days I d’ bond with my father that way watching it Liberty Kids highly recommended it! Yes history channel their episodes were rather long). Also learned about the war of 1812 they talk about my ancestor on there he has two statues one in Erie PA & another one Cincinnati, Ohio. History old history videos I d’ wait till ur oldest hits middle school or at least 4th grade or 5th grade they re’ long).

      @ ur welcome thought be a great help ). My boyfriend & ℹ decided a year ago we ll homeschool when we have kids one day & married I told people I am not worried about socialization there re’ plenty of options for socialization that myth has been debunked). I don’t my future children be traumatized like I was). Cliques I ll avoid getting myself involved with them & my future children I ll make it clear cut or people break ADA laws ). Definitely recommend 4H it is free no animal required they have Colver buds they do take homeschooled students there is homeschooling scout troops find leaders that follow ADA laws). Took me 12 years later to find out on a reading assessment they broke ADA laws . I am hoping to eventually get a scout university program I ll fight to get on unblackbolted how it was done was against ADA laws. I have had known that They broke ADA laws I d’ ve” got an advocate & ADA lawyer . When it comes to ADA laws you don’t say to a special needs kid teen let it go especially it is illegal. My future kids go through that I ll remind scout organization there is ADA laws to follow).

    Do your children do written or oral narrations after every AO reading selections? Trying to work through all this. Thanks!

    • @MaryBarfield
      @MaryBarfield  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      So we are only doing oral narrations right now after readings. However, after my 7 year old does her oral narration for her McGuffey lessons, I will write down her narration for her in that companion notebook I mentioned. I think I’m going to follow AOs suggestion and wait until she’s in 4th grade before I require a written narration from her. Although, if she wants to do a written narration before then, I wont stop her 🥰

      Yes! It seems to be hitting all our friends homes too! Locally and elsewhere! 🤦🏼‍♀️ Genexa cough and cold, colloidal silver, cold calm, and lots of rest/fluids have been our best friends lately! Thankfully I think we are finally out of the woods (knock on wood 😅).

      @ yep sleep is the best healing medicine! We had the runny noses back in December before Christmas. Seems to be a monthly occurrence lol. I made my 8 year old do school but it was minimal. Good thing we homeschool as the laws here in Iowa changed that everytine kid is sick they need a dr note to be excused
      I have language lessons for well trained mind. I didn’t end up using it as we did easy grammar and other things. I may use the other levels.

    • @MaryBarfield
      @MaryBarfield  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Oh no! I couldn’t imagine having to get a doctor’s note every time my kid is sick 😳. So grateful for the flexibility of homeschooling!
      So, I think we are going to switch to Fix It Grammar book 1 for next year with my oldest - First Language Lessons has been great, but my oldest did an example lesson from Fix it and she loved it even more (she likes the problem solving aspect of having to fix the sentence)! 🥰

    • @Brewerhomeschool
      @Brewerhomeschool 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ I’m looking at fix it myself. I just wasn’t sure if my daughter needed more grammar background. I have the first book. They didn’t recommend it until 4th grade when I had reached out to them.

    • @MaryBarfield
      @MaryBarfield  9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think you can do book 1 without any prior grammar knowledge. My 7 year old was able to do the first lesson, after only having completed 1/2 of First Languages Lessons 1 which is very gentle. I know Charlotte Mason doesn’t recommend introducing Grammar until later on in the Middle school timeframe, but my oldest loves all things LA and she loves problem solving type activities like Fix It. We could absolutely wait a few years before starting it, but she liked it so much she asked if we could drop FLL and start it now 😂 I told her she had to at least wait until 3rd grade next year. So it’s more of an interest led item for her.
