    It's really nice to hear such a positive opinion about Germany. We Germans often don't have such a positive picture of our home country ourselves. Which I think is a shame because you could appreciate the positive sides without forgetting the past or overlooking negative things.

    I moved to Germany in 2017, love it here. My hubby is from here, that's why we moved. Our kids love it too. We lived together in the US for 5 years then moved back to his homeland, it's beautiful here, I love that there are flowers everywhere and it's so clean in most cities where I've been, I'm European by birth so I feel at home here. The German people are very warm, helpful and kind to strangers in general ( except for the occasional person that maybe woke up on the wrong side of the bed lol but those are in every country), and the maternity leave can't be beat! 🇩🇪 🥨 😁

      good luck with the search for an affordable room or apartment (unless you don't planned to living in the citycenter of Berlin (means every space between the city train circle line (calls Ringbahn).
      Berlin currently has a very serious problem with the fact that there are not enough affordable apartments available but every year more and more people moving to berlin and searching for same affordable place to live in the city center
      the last time I searched for apartment eight years ago and when i found my current 48 m2 Appartement (in moabit also pretty central) I had to defeat only seven other competitors and now today when you go to a appointment to see a available apartment you stand mostly in a line with 80 (!) other people who are wanting the same room/apartment like you.
      At the outskirts of berlin it is a little bit easier to find an affordable and nice apartment.
      but it has the disadvantage that you have to travel mostly 30 minutes or more only to reach the city center
      my advice:
      try the city district of „Marzahn“ because there a the rents are not risen so high and you can still find an affordable apartment wich is not to far outside the Berlin city limits and the crime rate is surprisingly low comparing to Other districts and the public transport system in this area is really advanced so you can easily and relatively quick travel to every spot in Berlin

    • @thomaseck3210
      @thomaseck3210 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      And also Germany's biggest problem. It doesn't have former colonies that speak the language as the UK, France, Spain and Portugal have. They have a theoretically endless number of people that are willing to migrate and speak the language, but there is virtually no-one that speaks German outside of Central Europe. This is why it is crucial that we are attractive to people like Diana because for native English speakers, there is a lot of competition in terms of attractive countries to emigrate to.

    The social clubs are very varied; you'll find a Verein for just about every hobby and/or interest - quite a few have their own special events, some even with like-minded clubs from other places, and visitors and newcomers are always welcome. Be prepared for a modest membership fee when joining, though, because depending on the topic clubs can have expenses which need to be paid by the members. On the other hand membership often has advantages, so your membership fees get you discounts at some related places and/or opens up opportunities non-members don't get.

    not only do you have mandatory vacation days, but your employer can actually be fined, if you don't take them... so your employer actually has an incentive to let you use them. This is mainly to prevent things like getting paid for not using vacation days and so on.

      What if an employee has chosen not to on their own? Who's fault is that? What if an employee wants to keep working and take a break later?

    • @m.h.6470
      @m.h.6470 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sucram1015 The employer _can_ force the employee to take vacation, but a situation like the one you describe is usually only the case, if the employee wants to take a longer vacation in one go. For example: One of my coworkers is originally from Bangladesh. He recently took his entire year vacation plus extra days to go visit his family for almost 2 month.
      Mainly the fine for not taking vacation days is meant to enforce, that the employee has the ability and option to take vacation, so to not make the employer figure out ways to stop them from doing so.
      If the employee _wants_ to work, the employer is still obligated to make sure, that it wont negatively affect the employees health (both mentally and physically).

I am 73 and draw 3 Pensions so money would not be a problem. Is a Medical plan available to me ? That would be biggest concern. I was in the U S Air Force at Templehof for 4 years. There, they have a store that only sells Christmas ornaments and things like that. As far as I know, it´s the only store of it´s kind in all of Germany! Enjoy it. • @beautyforashes2230
      @beautyforashes2230 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Hey, I live in a tiny village (population of 280 including the neighboring municipality). I moved here from a very big city and I'd never want to live anywhere else again. People here know each other and are so friendly, and if someone is in trouble, the whole village pulls together to help them out. It's not dull either; we may not have nightclubs or shopping malls, but we have things like a lot of festivals to observe old traditions and holidays that go un-noticed in big cities. But I guess it all depends on whether or not someone appreciates that kind of thing; I certainly do.

    • @swanpride
      @swanpride 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Really depends on the village...but with most of them it is just a matter of learning the language and joining some local club. Once people have gotten used to your presence, they'll be quite welcoming in most places. (there are naturally exceptions, especially in the east of Germany, but even there it really depends on the place in question).

      I guess she is talking about sport clubs and it's true - there are a lot. Volleyball, Handball, Soccer/European Football, Icehockey, Bowling, Badminton, a lot of fitness clubs and so on. Sport clubs are the only way to really find friends here. Another way, but much harder, would be to join online communities and in this case you are right - That would be like an app. As an example "spontacts" is quiet popular. Germans aren't very good in socializing, so they search for people with similar interests online. My brother has found a lot of friends and also his actual girlfriend by using chats and computer games (he is also playing football).

    • @Morellas4

      Hi, one HUGE source to find likeminded groups would be the "Volkshochschule" - there you can get courses for almost anything for rather small money. You'll find it in almost every region I think.
      Another thing are "Vereine" where you find a great variety on sports or also political groups and so on. Probably the best way if you search the Internet ("Verein" and your interest/hobby will be keywords here).

    Hi Diana, gonna move to Canada from Germany in 2021. My 18 reasons against Germany:
    1: very high taxes in Germany
    2: questionable right-wing politics on the rise
    3: way better wages in canada
    4: bad street conditions when it comes to driving a car in germany (or europe).
    5: Canada offers afordable housing, while Germany is 90% apartament-living
    6: Homophobia/racism 2020 still a big deal in german public
    7: weed = 100% illegal
    8: Canada has WAY more beautyful Nature than Germany
    9: fees for public toilets in Germany (no words...)
    10: Canada has the USA as Neighbour (to visit California, The big capitals)
    11: Two words: cheap. fuel.
    12: Socializing in Canada is much more based on a even level of respect, while germany its a lot about persons reptuation only (f.a.: being educated canadian = good raputation in germany in the first place)
    13: German healthcare sucks. You still have to pay extra cost for dentist service or not being provided with private rooms in hospitals. Try to get an appointment for a doctor, wich will take MONTHS, so lots of germans use hospital emergency service instead to avoid month-long waiting time. Healthcare/retirement for elderly people is another bottomless pit in Germany and not 100% covered by public healthcare. Lots of old people live on a minimum retirement income and have to do part-time jobs (no joke).
    14: German public transportation is NOT RELIABLE. Its expensive and despite being well-connected the train system in Germany has the worst delay rate in whole europe. The Taxi-cab fares are pure rip-off.
    15: Bad english spoken. Good luck find people that speak even simple english outside the capitals.
    16: No shopping possible on sundays.
    17: All themed "festivals" in Germany are just about 1. drinking and 2. food
    18: Streetfood in Germany is really bad and one-dimensional. It all comes down to Döner-Kebab or some Variation of WURST.
    Won't take you to the fray, just my impression over last 25 Years in Germany. Can't wait to go the canadian way on the long term.

    • @Nikioko
      @Nikioko 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1. Taxes from which all is paid which is used by everyone. So don't think you get nothing in return.
      2. Like everywhere in the world.
      3. Also when you put the social ensurance fees on top?
      4. Where have you been? At the back of beyond?
      5. Population density is a lot higher. If you don't mind commuting long distances, you can have that in Germany, too. And I doubt the 90%.
      6. Like everywhere else in the world.
      7. Like in most other countries in the world. I couldn't care less.
      8. Canada is lot bigger to have more. It's not always quantity that counts.
      9. In return you get a clean toilet. They are maintained by companies that want to earn money, too.
      10. I wouldn't consider that as a pro but as a contra argument.
      11. Did you ever ask where this fuel comes from and why it is so cheap?
      12. ah... no.
      13. Some of that is true, but most of that is just rubbish. And at least you get healthcare without having to pay money.
      14. If it comes to trains, yes. If it comes to local transportation, no. And it isn't that expensive.
      15. Shouldn't be a problem when you speak the local language. Have you tried that? And btw.: in most non-English speaking countries it is worse.
      16. That is reason for Germany, not against. You have 6 other days a week to go shopping.
      17. You haven't been to many festivals, have you?
      18. No, it doesn't.

      The health care in Canada is bad. Be prepared to pay teeth and eye care of of your own pocket. It is far more expensive here too. Medication is really expensive. Much more than in Germany.
      The condition of the roads is rotten here. I think the speed limit exists that you don't ruin your car with the thousand of holes in the roads.

      Just shows that youre completely ignorant about knowing (and not knowing) the living conditions in most countries in the world.
      About the thing with the right wing party.... Did you ever research how much the right wing parties gained support in EU or all over the world? Typically german, a bit right wing raise and they think they are nazis and they just exist there. Very poor and makes me very sad. Open your eyes about the world and about politics. Just a quick reminder U.S. repuclicans were never better than nazis. Im not saying that Germany is the best country but the most youre saying is just wrong and not even bettet in other countries.
