I'd say its about long-game. I purchased a shit ton of vials for 15g average and sold them all around 500g.. i had 3000 of them stocked. Same as certain meats and shit too... I held the vials for a month before that update came and ended up making a massive profit around 1.7m gold just from that. Currently i am buying the feline familiars and ill hold them until next year sometime, those will be harder to sell but they will increase in value for the crazy cat lady achievement. It's all about thinking ahead. Think of it like crypto.. you buy low, sell high.. patience and hold long term. Once new content comes out, new recipes etc. Ore, chants, everything will go up in price.. You can buy and stock a shit ton of ore or mats and release it next major patch. That is how you really make the gold.
It's pretty much like a stock market cycle. Every single expansion it's exactly the same. Initial costs on crafting regions are huge. They steadily decline towards the end of season 1, you can buy stuff at the end of season 1 within the last two weeks and resell it at the start of season 2 for a profit rinse and repeat this exact same strategy every single season

When they brought out cross server trade I made 65 million gold in about a month. I'm never going to farm again because I'll never go through all of that. I didn't do it to sell gold, I can play WoW forever for free. You don't even need two accounts anymore with the war bank, but I have two accounts.
If you scroll down on the item, should have all the realms with prices and availability on the bottom. Only includes the main realm in combined realms since the share the same auction house

I cannot stress enough that you need to figure out which servers are in each group, when I first started doing this, I was undercutting myself.
