    Every Tesla owner isn't a 1 or 2 car fleet manager. If you were to build a quick P&L model for each car, you would have to convince the owners the price for daily robotaxi rides would meet their return on costs threshold once you remove the following expenses: (1) commercial insurance coverage for the car, instead of personal insurance. (2) added car maintenance costs with the increase of daily miles on the car from roughly 2 hrs a day to 8 or more. (3) added charging costs for a vehicle with increased daily usage. (4) In cities like Chicago, you will probably need to also include a parking charge for those times when the car isn't in use, even for 30 minutes. There are probably more expenses with this model that I'm missing that could possibly dampen the notion of having 8 to 10 million cars ready-made for a robot-taxi fleet. In business, vision without a viably profitable model is just a dream.

    • @HopeIsFleeting
      @HopeIsFleeting 9 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      1) Tesla already offers their own insurance, no doubt they will offer competitive commercial insurance too.
      2) Maintenance is famously low in an EV due to the lack of moving parts.
      3) People using this service as a business will invest in solar installations (if they have a brain), making their charging costs non-existent.
      4) Uber drivers don't park up and wait, they drive around local hotspots, Robotaxis will do the same.
      5) You can't think of anything else but you're sure there are other expenses... Right. Well when you think of any more (or any actual legitimate expenses), let me know.

      This is a good point. Just because Tesla and the vehicle owners are only incurring costs of a few cents per mile doesn't mean you aren't still going to be charged comparable prices to what Uber/Lyft would charge you. The price will be what the market will bear. The question though is whether the widespread availability will drive costs down and introduce elasticity in that market.

    My prediction: Tesla's 25k car will also be the Robotaxi, two products in one made on a single production line. The car will convert from personal car to Robotaxi with the easily removable/installable steer-by-wire wheel. Forget just hailing a Robotaxi, anyone will be able to BUY one today!

    • @benm5678
      @benm5678 9 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      I doubt robotaxis will ever be owned by individuals... too expensive to insure & regulate, deal with maintenance schedules, etc. Reserved for fleet operators as a business with standard margins sounds more likely to me.

      I think they're building a new platform. Many interchangeable parts like previous models but more versions. A 2 seater, 5 seater, 8 seater, van etc. They may also make drivable versions to add to the existing EV lineup but I think more models would be better for growth.

    • @NateDecker1982

      This is essentially what my intuition has been for a long time as well. Although the "converting" the same vehicle from one mode to the other wasn't really part of my expectation. I just thought it would be two nearly-identical variants.
