im about 70 days in and its been the hardest challenge. god is forcing me to trust and have faith more in my situations and to quell expectations. However, desires and perceived "needs" can feel so strong it's almost like mini relapses when you give in to these thoughts even slightly.
It's 11 years because my wife of 42years was dying and I believe in not cheating in a marriage. It's tough but I lived. I'm 76 now and raising a 10 year old grandson so finding a companion at this point is probably not going to happen. I have a job to do and I will do it and love doing it.

An interesting observation over the years of this journey is my previous agnostic attitudes have shifted towards the belief of a higher power. My Islamic roots are slowly being renourished with an influence from the Bhagavad Gita. It seems that your faith in Jesus has been a strong pillar for your spiritual warfare and I respect the faith that you possess and cultivate. I feel as though my past tailures are attributed not only an attachment to poor coping mechanism (viewing p**n since childhood), lustful potentialities, sense gratification but also not redirecting that void with devotion for God. I guess what I want to say is thank you for your message and sharing your experience. Even though our society is praising degerneracy, spiritual purity is indeed valuable and we must live that path for ourselves and others.
Yes, it can be challenging to balance our desires, but we cannot get rid of our desires, and some desires are so deep in our physiology we just have to say "okay, this is bigger than me" and when you accept that, you will transcend the desire - which is what it is all about.
