As others have mentioned, it would be interesting to hear your thoughts on the "Bobby Fischer Ultimate Chess Pieces." The weight and balance and overall quality of the pieces are amazing. They play great. The design of the pieces also has a bit more "character" than the "Best Chess Set Ever." The bishops and pawns are a bit bulbous, which helps the feel considerably. If you want content for a new video, give it a try!
Very nice video.. Funny enough the "Best chess set ever" is marketed as triple weighted and is 2.2lbs. "Ultimate Chess Set" is also marketed as triple weighted but it weighs 3.8lbs.
I did not see your 1st vid, but this edition is spot on. I've had several questions which you answered and your expertise in this is greatly appreciated! Thank you.
Nice. This comparison is super helpful. Plus these are sets more for the "normal" player, so I'm sure that's really why folks wanted to see a more in depth review. We all need to inspire Shelby from American Chess Equipment to send you an Ultimate set. Maybe even both the plastic and wood. I've been trying to replace my old Drueke plastic set (82g king) and I'm struggling to find plastic of the same quality and attractiveness. The Ultimate set (The Bobby Fischer Ultimate Set) looks to be the most similar. The Best Chess Set Ever seems to be in the ballpark as well.
Agree! I have the Fischer Ultimate Chess pieces from ACE, and I like them a lot, but would be very interested in having Alex review it. I actually spoke to Shelby Lohrman on the phone a couple of weeks ago regarding some customization work he did for me. I'll write to him and suggest he sends a set to Alex.
Thank you for watching!! I agree, more people wish to see more reviews of tournament chess sets that are more easily accessible. I wish there was larger variety in plastic chess sets out there!
one big thing you didn't mention is that the best chess set ever pieces don't have any excess plastic crease like the rest. Huge quality difference. It might just be the best chess set ever for its cheap price.
The Barnes & Noble on a tight budget seem OK, albeit disproportionate and toy-like. The high polymer resin are way too shiny for my taste, and their bishops' mitres represented in a simplistic, artless manner. The BCSE matte pieces are very nice, and the anonymous "quads" seem to be made from similar Chinese moulds, but somewhat more refined (one wonders whether they are identical to the BCSE "XL" quads). Thank you for this comprehensive review Al.
That polished King with I believe was the high polymer resin set, here's the link to the video I did on that set earlier th-cam.com/video/x-WOzaLcRnQ/w-d-xo.html
Excellent review that is very helpful for collectors of plastic parts. I've been thinking of buying a new set lately and the polymer pieces look pretty good to me, I like the design and that the towers finally have a large size. I haven't seen those polymer pieces in person, but I've read reviews about them being too shiny, which is not bothersome for a casual player or to be used as decorative pieces as well, however maybe for someone who plays quite a bit and for points, their shininess can be distracting. What do you think? in person they are too shiny (compared for example to the set you show The Best Set Ever (which is a Staunton Fischer)? I would appreciate your opinion. Blessings
I agree with you, the high polymer set is a little bit more glossy, as it was designed to look like a high end luxury wood set more or less, some higher end wood sets like my Paulsen 1852 set are coated and more shiny, but I played with both of them extensively and they don't seem too bad, not really that destructing, at least to me. That being said, I see your point, less shiny peaces would be less distracting.
So I believe I bought my set from eBay. Nowadays they are a little bit harder to come by and I didn't see it on eBay anymore. My second choice would be amazon. Lastly I would just google woodtek chess set and it will direct you to several web sites that might still have it! Good luck!
I don't own the "Best Chess Set Ever" but my OPINION is that for a silicone board and triple weighted plastic pieces I feel like it's being overpriced by quite a bit.
@@AlSuChess No thanks. Too shiny and reflective for me. All the sets you've displayed here are of good quality, but I much prefer a standard plastic tournament set with a roll up board.
I don't have a DGT board yet, wish I did though! If I was to get a DGT board, I would strive to get the Bluetooth one! Thank you for watching the video!
Thank you very much! House of Staunton sells this board here: www.houseofstaunton.com/elm-burl-and-bird-s-eye-maple-superior-traditional-chessboard.html
For sure, its a nice set! I've seen it being sold in Barnes and Noble the other day too, so if you have a Barnes and Noble in your area, call them, find out, will save you on shipping costs!

My "best chess set ever" pieces (most notably the queen) look very different to yours. More alike that Barnes and nobles one, but significantly taller than the bishop.
I bought my version from Amazon directly, I am pretty sure best chess set ever has their own web page where you can also look into the other weight options, my version is the best chess set ever XL.

What company manufactures plastic pieces and rubber chessboard?
I've been wanting to take a closer look at this set. Thanks for the very useful information. I'm glad you're feeling better, Alex. Take care!
Thanks a lot! I am glad you find the video useful!
Very nice video.. Funny enough the "Best chess set ever" is marketed as triple weighted and is 2.2lbs. "Ultimate Chess Set" is also marketed as triple weighted but it weighs 3.8lbs.
Yes these types of discrepancies are odd to me too! Thanks for watching!
Ultimate chess set is the best. 3.8 lbs and fixed weights that will never rattle. There my go to' s when my wood sets are not a option.

I love the look feel and weight of the "ultimate chess set", but wish the queen were a little taller. It's barely taller than the bishop.

Where did you get the chessboard in this video from?
Hi, does anyone know where I can get the high polymer set
Resin set is heavier than the rest! Great video!
I agree the resin set is very nice indeed
What camera do you use for your vids it looks really good
Thank you, I've been using the Panasonic gh5 for a couple of years now, I find it reliable for what I do!
Where do I buy the ones that are on the far left the polymer finish ones what are they called can you please paste a link 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

I was kind of on the fence about The Best Chess Set Ever and after watching this video I think I'm going to pick it up. I enjoyed the video, thanks.
I want to purchase the set on the that you have on the left side that is the largest. Where can I buy?

Good review. If I needed a chess set, I'd buy any of these except the high polymer set.
Thank you for watching! You aren't too keen on the high polymer chess set?
@@AlSuChess No thanks. Too shiny and reflective for me. All the sets you've displayed here are of good quality, but I much prefer a standard plastic tournament set with a roll up board.
Hi! Where can we buy the polymere one?
Thank you!
No links ? I’m looking hard to buy the right set but man it’s tough to find specifics.
is it more common to see the weighted or unweighted DGT timeless pieces in high-level competition? Also are those boards USB-C, or instead Bluetooth?
I don't have a DGT board yet, wish I did though! If I was to get a DGT board, I would strive to get the Bluetooth one! Thank you for watching the video!
@@AlSuChess but it does the same things as the Square Off Pro you reviewed, just that it looks nicer (being wood) and is thrice the price!

The quad weighted chess set is amazing. Is it on Amazon?
Please do a video on dgt pieces

So which do you like more between the eBay quad weight and the best chess set ever?
After playing some time with weighted pieces, why filler weight starts moving
Interesting! Could it be due to the glue that's being used I wonder?
Which one are you suggesting me this time,so this doesn't happen again please thank you
