I will never get over the image of this amazing band at Wacken Open Air - in their Hijabs - with a sea of all-black wearing metalheads welcoming them and rocking out. I kind of want to see them collaborate with BabyMetal.
Indonesians are so proud of these young ladies. They are a great positive representation of the younger generation. They are unapologetically themselves and do not conform to society’s standards of how a woman/hijabi should act or be like. These young ladies stand in their own truths and honor themselves with self belief, confidence and sheer determination to chase their dreams no matter how many setbacks or people saying it was impossible. VOB deserve all the praise and attention coming their way!
As well as being a great band, VoB are doing very important work with their collaborations (eg with Women of the World). Can the ABC do an extended documentary on their approach? They are role models for us all.

If this was an Australian metal band the ABC would refuse to mention their existence. VoP are a METAL band , which was not discussed. Metal bands come from every nation, culture and belief system and Metal heads and Headbangers have welcomed the constant infusion of new ideas, new melodies, rythyms and languages for decades. Hey ABC, why don’t you investigate the global community of Metal, starting may I suggest right here with Southern Desert Metal. Indigenous metal. I won’t hold my breath.😔

Metal doesn't mean harsh vocals, blast-beats and djent. Go and listen to the bands that defined what metal is - bands like Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. VOB are metal.
