HLOM Director shares the extraordinary life of Mary Jemison, “The White Woman of the Genesee”. Mary was captured by a Shawnee raiding party as a young girl in Pennsylvania, and was eventually brought to the Seneca of the Genesee Valley, becoming an honored member of the tribe. She was an influential leader and was instrumental in improving the outcome of the Treaty of Big Tree for the Seneca, even gaining reservation for herself and her family.
