If you are reading this you really most look at Gale Banks videos about the importance of air density, “the boost gauge is dead to me” known tuners and engine builders keeps talking about boost pressure only. Gale changed my perspective on engine tuning a lot. He is a true hot rodding genius. The godfather of forced induction
Hey Aaron!! That bare wire wrapped around the others might be a shield, which should be grounded at the source end to drain the noise like you said. Also a handy tip with the multimeter is when it says OL that stands for Open Load (which means broken connection). Most importantly, everyone needs to start harassing Gale Banks to do a collab with Flying Sparks!!
Thought it was *open lead, but same difference. Yes, the bare 'wire' is an anti-interference wire, doesn't need to be grounded at the end, just keep it wrapped around the wires it's on. It prob just got disturbed when someone did a pig tail update swap for SD UVCG wires. Iirc some newer SD psd's have foil 'tape' doing the same thing instead.
My daughters favorite saying is "Girls rule, Boys drool" You are an excellent role model for my daughter and women everywhere. Aaron, you are right in the mix. There is so much more to your channel than meets the eye. Thank you, Emily, Aaron and Findley for a wonderful channel. Now hurry up and get that turbo on!
I'm a bit envious, your girl sounds more excited then most, she's to die for for encouragement, congratulations with your project, you drop a petty penny on that truck 👍
Another great video, i have no experience with diesel engines, but i can tell Aaron does , he's really an incredible mechanic. Emily you are so great when you tell all your interesting life stories, love watching and listening to you talk, keep up the great work ❤❤❤
Listening to you talk about your histories reminds me of our oldest daughter & son-in-law. He started wrenching on his motor bikes about 6 and doing work on his step-dads rig in his early teens and working about 20 years on deisel engines & truckd. When his last employeer pulled out of the area, they told him to take anything in the garage he wanted so he opened his own shop and "word of mouth" has him busy 6 days a week (he insisted on Sundays as a down day). Their oldest child &vonly son got intrrested in deisel in the 11th grade & on graduating last spring is now worjing along side his dad. Our daughter helped rebuilding a 350 fir his classic truck in our garage before they ever talked marriage lol!
Noise Drain wire. IF you completely disassembled the wire harness you would see that it is grounded. It created a direct path to ground and the inductive noise travels to ground though it rather than messing with whatever it is connected to. Common in my industrial background. More i do with more modern electronics in vehicles i am seeing it common there too.
My grandpa had the full Banks treatment on his F250, would have been a '90 or '91. He took delivery at Banks, he never drove it stock. Creme and red 4x4 manual longbed if I remember right - I was young. He towed a 5th-wheel and a 19' boat behind it. He drove semi for PIE for almost 40 years - towed tripple trailers. Unfortunately he passed away about a year after building it and the truck was sold to help with my grandmother's expenses. I would love to find that truck - assuming it is still out there. Thanks for sharing your awesome build and bringing up some fond memories.
I'm with Aaron when it comes to truck preference. I have a 1-ton dually and have made arrangements to have a cab change on my 3/4 ton short bed. The only difference is mine are Cummins and date 01 and 02. When the short bed is done, the dually goes.
On those old trucks they put the front suspension on wrong from the fabric. It's a factory fault. U must change it that the leafsprings is fit solid in front and it flex to the back. It gives a softer ride. Basically the suspension is put on backwards
“im not gonna go over your work because when we turn the key you won’t have that sense of accomplishment” is asron an effing shaman lol - thats so dang wise and chill - there’s lots of little reasons to love this channel (findlay dog for one) but ya’ll have a outlook on life that can’t be beat
@35:30 Flying sparks!😄 That belt buckle -- ooh, do you need more fender covers! You need some of that shiny space age insulation stuff now to protect your new turbo from the hood paint.
I once bought a set of glow plugs as my car was starting like turd. Swapped them out and it still started like turd. This engine had a couple of issues that could cause it and the rest were expensive fixes. I checked the plugs one last time and, sure enough, the second plug I checked was bad. If the ohm good, they work good, so im totally with you on that, Aaron
Change your oil and add 2 quarts of HotShot Stiction Eliminator to the oil. This will clean your injectors and bring them to life and will most likely do away with your slight miss. 40+ years as a Mechanic and many of those as a Diesel Tech, HotShot actually works and isn’t a snake oil.
You two are so cute together - glad that I found your videos. I do love the fact that you both love autos. Makes watching fun. That's squirrel hoarding - seen that plenty of times. Can't wait for #2. Stay safe.
Know what you mean about injectors, I’m a Red Seal diesel mechanic and back in the day when working on the Cummins M11 engines. Find one faulty injector. Take Everything apart and remove the Jakes, replace the injector. Put everything back together and run it up and guess what? Another injector just failed. It was like if you replace one injector on those engines, just replace them all.
You could re oring the factory injectors, it’s extremely easy. Just only use OEM motorcraft or Alliant Power o rings. If you do aftermarket injectors stick to Rosewood, or Unlimited diesel. If you buy full force or injectors by marv you will be replacing them again.
Those bellowed up pipes are a hoot aren't they? LOL. We fought mine for a couple days and wound up lifting the cab about 2 inches to get them in there. Worth it to get rid of the exhaust leaks but man...not fun. You will be happy with the Banks IC. It works. I towed heavy with my truck and saw a 125* EGT drop. You said your truck as been straight axle swapped already..I bought a brand new 1997 F350 PSD CC 4x4. Only new truck I ever owned. One of the better moves I made was to put a shackle reverse kit on it. Slowed the bucking down on the freeway expansion joints quite a bit. Worth it IMHO. The only injectors to buy are Alliant...none of the other rebuilders are worth the effort, IMHO. My 7.3 liked Alliant and Motorcraft parts...again, just my opinion. I miss my truck...wish I could show ya a pic.I dually converted it...I sent ya an email..
2001 f350 srw 4wd 7.3 with 6 spd manual. Factory all the way. Only fails have been back at about 230000 miles. Glow plugs! 3rd set of batteries. Currently 320000
Love this truck 😊 I've grown up around my dads 03 1 ton 7.3 6 speed 4x4 and when I tell you it gets ABUSED I ain't kiddin ya... 275,000 miles running strong on stock injectors lol... Transmission is a little noisy but it still works great.. for now 😂 Thank you guys as always for the awesome content and inspiration 🤘🤘🤘
Love the 7.3 PSTD,I plowed snow, and towed equipment with a 1999 F350 regular cab long bed plane jane, but,it had a good torque converter and it pushed and pulled great.I actually pulled out a stuck tandem dump truck with it no problem, he was stuck in sand.Anyways,I love you two and your content. God Speed
The wire harness that had the bare wire. Amazing it came out of the factory that way. Good tip about the pigtail and looking for signs of heat / melting.👍. Oh I see you've using the DSLR on tripod for the lockdown filming situations. Good choice.
I rebuilt turbo chargers for years, after you get the bolt out witch, I think you might know. If the bolts don't come out heat them up and use golf wax and let it soak in then they will come out easer the wax will soak into all the rust in the threads, and you know what that will do have fun. oh yea I did 4 to 5 hundred turbo's a month by myself.
I've got pretty much this same rig, '96 F250, 7.3L Diesel, shortbed, 4 door, 2WD...I'd LOVE to do this mod to mine but just don't think I'd get enough use out of it as I only drive about 6K miles/year these days. Got to change my high pressure oil pump and tilt steering column (lower bearings blew up). But it runs like a champ!!! Love your channel guys! ~Chris
I have a 2000 F250 with a 7.3 and I have an occasional stumble at idle. What are your thoughts on replacing the o-rings on the injectors? I don’t have $1200 for injectors and I don’t think I need to replace them but I heard that replacing o-rings will help with the stumble. You guys are great to watch!
If your weather is cold, hard start is glow plugs. Replace them. Not air unless fuel pump in vally leaking. Proper tuning is important. Rather that generic
Emily It's not Disassembly it's "Tear down" Vs build. Why not pull the front Clip/Nose and give yourselves some more Room, Just put it in the box. I do wish You would have turned the key on before cranking and let the System pressure up before Cranking. Luv You Guys 💙🔥
Another great video about stuff I know nothing about! Thanks to you and Aaron I'm slowly learning about these newer modors. I'm use working on older trucks, like from my 37 Chevy pickup all the way to my two 52 Ford and my 65 Ford. Times they are a changing! See you in the next one!
If it near 200k miles and you pull the injectors do the coppers no hard to do just a thought p.s don't cheap injectors use ford and a engine crepper lot easier
im only 1:30 min in , but i have had many of the obs 7.3 , they are all a hard start because of the mechanical pump, that chug ah chug surge too, up grade fuel system will help both , also had 3 out of 10 have an oring issue on selector valve near side tank, driver side frame .. ok ok back to watching you prolly end up addressing both by the time I learn patience to watch before I comment lol
I would really like to see you finish the Car hauler/RV trailer. You need to build Finley a platform with a comfortable covering so your morale/quality control officer can see what your doing.🙂
Yall should check out BANKS Data Monster gauges. I have 1 on my daily tow rogn2020 3500 cummins and 1 on my 2004 5.9 cummins. 1 replaced the triple gauges on my a pillar for the simgle gauge and have 100 times the data at my fingertips (I'm not really exaggerating much either) I added a couple sensors on my 04 especially the Bank Air Mouse (I added one of these to both my trucks) but these I dash gauges are awesome you can have i think 6 different things being monitored on the screen at one plus you can have multiple pages (1 for daily another for towing another for the track that ever tickles your fancy)
This Telegram crap is NOT US!!!! It’s a scammer!!
Scammers are serious bottom feeders, and they are like cockroaches. They are all over the place!
What do you mean? I just sent $1,000!
@@dustincleaver3108 please be kidding 🥹😭😝
@flyingsparksgarage ya I'm kidding! I might be dumb but I'm not stupid! Lol
Those scammers seemed to have dialed up their nasty efforts this year. I report them every time.
Love someone showing a 7.3 Power stroke some love. They really are an icon!
It’s about tome she hitting a banks and exhaust 🎉

Holy moly that exhaust is huge! I would weld a grid at the end to keep all the critter out of there ! 😂😂😂

Fab Rats have a ladder/perch/support for working over engines

Cool truck
Hope y’all enjoy!!!!
Feel like you both are back and stronger than ever with the beginning of this year! Keep it up you two!
Glad to see the OBS getting some love. Those are the best trucks Ford ever made, in my opinion (and I've owned a bunch of them)!
I have the exact truck; black 1997 HD, grey interior. Glad to have you as a resource.

Wheels and tires 👍Banks is awesome with turbo's😁
Yup!

If I remember correctly the wire on the injector harness is a shield. Been many years since I was into one so I would double check.
You two are so cute together - glad that I found your videos. I do love the fact that you both love autos. Makes watching fun. That's squirrel hoarding - seen that plenty of times. Can't wait for #2. Stay safe.
Those wheels and tires are perfect for the truck! As a first Gen owner I’m very excited about this build.
Emily and Aaron, you guys always deliver such great content, thank you so much for the fun and informative Videos, great job.

I got the Banks kit on my 2001. Been on there for three years and 60k+ miles and zero problems or complaints.
The "y" part is called a merge. It brings both of the exhaust pipes together for building boost.
I love how effortlessly majestic Finley is!
I want a truck like that. Love old school vehicles
Fun video, good job! 7.3's will start without glow plugs, but you have to prep with the the block heater if the temperature is below 40 Fahrenheit.

I had a broken wire in my brother-in-law 7.3 engine harness purchase a brand new harness from dealer 400.00
What a great truck! Can’t wait for the final results.
Looks like when you called Banks the rep said “what can I get for you?”
Aaron’s response:”all of it!” 😂
And no DEF required. Great Video and channel.
Such a big truck and then still have to figure out how to get the downpipe into place. Nice that the truck is being made up and running again.
I love that wheel and tire combo. It looks sweet
When you look up 'perfect car couple' Flying Sparks comes up!!
Glad to see the 57 in out of the weather.

The a/c compressor clicking is the clutch engaging and dis-engaging.

To quote your buddy. For now, " dont get it right, just get it running " 😊
Inspirational; what a TEAM! Great story of how you two began 'dating' while turning wrenches.
Windsor Ontario, Canada, watching you guys. You obviously know your stuff when it comes to diesel
Look it.. now I need more lift to show it off!! Sweet Aaron.

Perfect timing!! I'm fixin' to start working on my OBS too!!
Hey Emily and Aaron👋, cool old osb . 7.3 are good motors . Thanks for sharing the video and stories with it. Have a great week👍
Looks like you got a shop is full can't wait see all your projects come alive.
Really like your soft back ground music great vid!

This is my favorite square body 7.3!! One day I’ll own one.. great work y’all!
Happy 2024! I am so looking forward to seeing your projects coming together this year!
I have a 2000 F250 with a 7.3 and I have an occasional stumble at idle. What are your thoughts on replacing the o-rings on the injectors? I could smell that 7.3 when it lit. Of course I’m the guy who can smell one in traffic

Allways a joy to see a badass hard at work.

It's not Disassembly it's "Tear down" Vs build.
Why not pull the front Clip/Nose and give yourselves some more Room, Just put it in the box.
I do wish You would have turned the key on before cranking and let the System pressure up before Cranking.
Luv You Guys 💙🔥
you can ceramic coat that turbo and get rid of most of the heat that is puts out and on the exhaust pipes also.
Look! Em knows my favorite color is blue!
I run Hot shots stiction eliminator in my oil to help lube and keep my injectors clean. May help here, I have had great luck with Hot shots .
And the best part about the older truck NO DEF
Another great video about stuff I know nothing about! Thanks to you and Aaron I'm slowly learning about these newer modors. I'm use working on older trucks, like from my 37 Chevy pickup all the way to my two 52 Ford and my 65 Ford. Times they are a changing! See you in the next one!
5 4x4 7.3 OBS fords the best thing you can do for the front end alignment issues on the f250 truck is put a straight axle under it.
Oh, I just seen the video where it’s already done. 👍
Banks is about one of the best you can install.
What can Aaron do to speed up that bone mending? Walking daily? Are you aware of whole body vibration platforms?
You had me when I saw "Banks". Great video and I'm looking forward to more.
If it near 200k miles and you pull the injectors do the coppers no hard to do just a thought p.s don't cheap injectors use ford and a engine crepper lot easier

Funny, at 18:42 there is a GM connector, and it is prone to melting. WHAT, SAY IT AIN'T SO MR. McBeavy?!
You'll never have too many Grounds.
This episode is Shop Foreman Finley approved.
Yall should check out BANKS Data Monster gauges. I’ve always stuck to moto craft (OEM)valve cover gaskets, much better results for me and always carry an extra cam sensor with me
what happen to the new Ford dualle you had. was that a lease
We had an amazing 3 year contract with Ford where we got to use a new truck every year- that contract came to an end! 🥹
I owned a 97 7.3 it was a great truck.
I have the last OBS 97 Ford F250 crew cab 4x4 short bed w/460 (104,000 mi) and when I stop I can't tell you how many people ask me if I would sell it.
Great video Emily and Aaron good stuff 👍✌️ Doug
Must be nice to be warm enough for shorts. Its been single digits up here in Ky.
Our shooting of this job began during the summer 😅
