Much like InDesign's gradient tool and methodology. This tutorial gave me dementia. Colour control is fiddly, as demonstrated by this tutorial in which the tutor struggles constantly with said controls. But most demented is the inability to change colours on the fly, you have to create colour swatches first, then edit them afterwards, for every colour in the gradient. Bonkers.
Exactly my point .. like that's so unbelievably obscured that it takes a couple of minutes to digest that this is a mainstream Adobe program for editorial designs.
It could all be so easy xD I was thinking - how on earth did Adobe manage to make this process so complicated that an 11-minute video is needed to explain it - but they managed!
This drag and drop feature from swatches to the gradient panel is an absolute joke. We're not talking about niche functionality here. We're talking about a fundamental way of adding colour to a document in a design application. Do Adobe do any product testing before launching??? Or maybe checking in with other application teams to determine universal application behaviours so we don't have to learn 5 different ways of doing the same bloody thing depending on what app we're in????!!!! Drives me mental. And what an earth is the drag down feature about to delete a colour point on the gradient????? Where the f**k has that come from???? Who an earth would intuitively know to do that???? Why is there not just a minus sign???? The UI team on these apps should be shot
Thank you very much Man!! You helped me so so much!!!! I was exhausted of this thing since last week, I wasn't gettiing that how to add colour to gradient object! And you helped me now!😃
Making a pamphlet and I want the gradient to stretch over the 1st. and last page. With facing pages turned on these two pages are at the start and end. How can I get this to be one continuous gradient?
Hi! You can apply your corporate color by adding it to the gradient swatches and then blending it with another color in the gradient panel. Just make sure the tone fits well with your brand's identity! Cheers!
Had never problems with Gradients in CS5. But now in 2020 there are weird lines everywhere (in radial gradients via FX). I deactivated every line-help-tool i could find. Still they appear and kill my projects. Any Idea? :-/ Is it a bug?
Yes, you can add a gradient to your SVG icon in Adobe InDesign. Here's how you can do it: Method 1: Using the Gradient Tool Place the SVG in InDesign Go to File > Place and select your SVG file. Click to place it in your document. Convert the SVG to InDesign Paths Select the placed SVG. Right-click and choose Convert to Shape or Convert to Path (this may depend on the version of InDesign you are using). Apply the Gradient With the SVG (now a path) selected, go to the Swatches panel. Create a new gradient swatch or use an existing one. Drag the gradient swatch onto the selected path. Adjust the Gradient Use the Gradient Tool (G) to adjust the angle, length, and direction of the gradient.
Does anyone know how to get rid of the gradient stops in the Gradient Window? I panic clicked a bunch and now l have so many stops and l can't get rid of the black - it's mudding my colors :c
Once you're in the gradient menu you can click the colour and then double click your fill on the left and it'll change in the gradient menu. hope this helps :)!
Hi! If the angle isn't changing visually, try selecting the object with the gradient and then use the Gradient Tool (G) to manually adjust the angle by dragging across the object. Also, make sure the gradient is applied to the correct fill or stroke, and not locked. Hope this helps, cheers!
God I hate indesign. Everything that I learned in illustrator doesn't translate to indesign. Photoshop and Illustrator are very easy to use but this program is really giving me a headache over the most basic stuff.
''UMMM HOW SHOULD WE FUCK UP SOMETHING THAT WORKED FINE UP UNTILL NOW.... I GOT IT. LET'S FOR ABSOLUTELY NO FUKING REASON MAKE IT SO IT'S NOW IMPOSSIBLE TO CREATE A GRADIENT IN INDESIGN LIKE IT IS IN PHOTOSHOP AND ILLUSTRATOR. WHAT? OF COURSE WE WON'T MAKE THE INTERFACE DIFFERENT. IT WILL LOOK EXACTLY THE SAME BUT JUST WON'T FUCKING WORK'' - some Adobe big shot.
Thank you for explaining. What a terrible tool design though.... And why three different gradient tools in Indesign, photoshop and Illustrator? Very confusing.... But Indesign definitely got the worst bit...
what a joke funtionallity, they need to scrap InDesign. Adobe are really worthless. Why not have the same ways to adjust gradients as their other programs.
Hi! We understand your frustration. While InDesign's gradient tools might differ from those in other Adobe programs, they do offer some flexibility for adjustments. If you’re looking for more detailed control, you might explore additional resources or tutorials specific to InDesign gradients. We appreciate your feedback and will keep it in mind for future content! Cheers!
@@envatotuts Yeah sorry for my rant. I figured it out, and it is easy once you know it actually. Just so different from their other programs. I am calm again now lol.
The answer on how to apply colors starts from 6:20, in case you are wondering
Find it so strange that you can't just double click on the black or white boxes to bring up the colour wheel! Thanks for the time stamp.

oh my god. It's so weird that we have to drag our colours!! :< Why can't make most of their program the same?? But thank you so much for this!
i cannot believe how ass-backwards adobe makes their programs. Click and drag for color is only in indesign. thanks for the tut man
Exactly my point .. like that's so unbelievably obscured that it takes a couple of minutes to digest that this is a mainstream Adobe program for editorial designs.
Yeah, I was confused as of why it doesn't work like the other programs
Design like it's 1999
Yes!! And every time I have to do a gradient in InDesign I'm back on the internet Googling how!!
Agreed...I went from illustrator to this pos...infuriating. Bunch of crayon eaters over at adobe.
It could all be so easy xD I was thinking - how on earth did Adobe manage to make this process so complicated that an 11-minute video is needed to explain it - but they managed!
i was losing my mind over here. thanks for the help with the color gradient ✌
You're welcome 😊
This tutorial really helped me. Thanks from Brazil!

Indesign is driving me absolutly nuts cause this s"it is overpriced and not consumer friendly at all.
1 year later and I'm here in the same situation as you. Only thing bringing me joy right now is how funny your comment is (because its true)
don't get me started on those awful RGB color picker
I absolutely agree! This is ridiculously complex for such a basic tool!
Thanks for the tutorial sir I love you from Morocco
ahahaha.. I never would have figured out you had to drag swatches from one panel to another...I kept trying to right click....thanks!!
Reading your comment saved me 11 minutes of watching the video. Basically "Drag swatches into the gradient panel". Great.
Very thorough and easy to understand. Great tutorial!
Very helpful I finally got rid of that annoying gradient thanks.

This is such a great video! So easy to understand and helpful. Thank you!
Is there a way to adjust the opacity of the color stops on the gradient bar?
that's what im trying to figure out
Same here. What a joke of a software InDesign is. Scrap it.
Thank you!!!!! These videos are so helpful
Great help, many thanks.
Thank you for the tutorial love from India bhai

Very helpful, thanks from Spain!

Making a pamphlet and I want the gradient to stretch over the 1st. and last page. With facing pages turned on these two pages are at the start and end. How can I get this to be one continuous gradient?
Thank you.
can i change the opacity of one color of gradient and make it 0% ?
Good luck trying to share those gradients in a library throughout CC
We need to use a color tone in my corporate identity, how will we use it in the gradient?
Hi! You can apply your corporate color by adding it to the gradient swatches and then blending it with another color in the gradient panel. Just make sure the tone fits well with your brand's identity!
Cheers!
what tool are you using to drag for the color??
Had never problems with Gradients in CS5. But now in 2020 there are weird lines everywhere (in radial gradients via FX). I deactivated every line-help-tool i could find. Still they appear and kill my projects. Any Idea? :-/ Is it a bug?
is there any way I can add gradient to my svg icon???? please help me
Yes, you can add a gradient to your SVG icon in Adobe InDesign. Here's how you can do it:
Method 1: Using the Gradient Tool
Place the SVG in InDesign
Go to File > Place and select your SVG file. Click to place it in your document.
Convert the SVG to InDesign Paths
Select the placed SVG.
Right-click and choose Convert to Shape or Convert to Path (this may depend on the version of InDesign you are using).
Apply the Gradient
With the SVG (now a path) selected, go to the Swatches panel.
Create a new gradient swatch or use an existing one.
Drag the gradient swatch onto the selected path.
Adjust the Gradient
Use the Gradient Tool (G) to adjust the angle, length, and direction of the gradient.
How do I fix the grey colour in the middle?
Does anyone know how to get rid of the gradient stops in the Gradient Window? I panic clicked a bunch and now l have so many stops and l can't get rid of the black - it's mudding my colors :c
The swatches bug me the most. I need more variations to be ready at hand
Once you're in the gradient menu you can click the colour and then double click your fill on the left and it'll change in the gradient menu. hope this helps :)!
How can I open up a gradient window separate from the color swatches? In mine I can have either one or the other open. :/
Top window -> Color -> Gradient
drag gradient panel out, then you can open both swatches and gradient
the angle will not change visually for me. any ideas?
Hi!
If the angle isn't changing visually, try selecting the object with the gradient and then use the Gradient Tool (G) to manually adjust the angle by dragging across the object. Also, make sure the gradient is applied to the correct fill or stroke, and not locked.
Hope this helps, cheers!
@@envatotutsthanks! I realized that I was accidentally applying it to the stroke, not the fill HAHA

My god i fucking hate this program, its so extremely unintuitive with they way it makes you work. Thanks for the tutorial, really saves alot of us...
How long can Adobe keep their monopole with such s****y features ? Thanks for the video.
