wait this teacher is actually sick !!! i never learned this topic , i'm learning it because of gcse's and now i'm 100% sure i'll get all of em right of vector questions ! god bless u!
thanks alot. missed so much because of zoning out in class. my teacher's great but this was very very easy. i have mocks coming and i didnt know anything before so thanks alot
Definitely the best vectors video out there....the school teacher just taught this is this and add them to get this which all was shit(and i didnt understand it for a month)...thx a lot...and pls make more wonderful videos with stuff like train joirney helped a lot 👍🏻
Thank you for explaining this so clearly! I'm an LSA trying to teach some of my students in time for their GCSEs and this one never managed to stick for me
@@aventador-ob3fs On the contrary, it's the half term between GCSE exams so I finally have the time to sit down with a cup of tea and see what the rest of the world is up to. At the moment, I am missing the classroom. I hope you sort yourself out before you get round to sitting your own exams, this apathetic attitude will not serve you well once your time comes.
Thanks, it's a really helpful video. It would be even better, if you turned the music down a bit, as hearing what you are saying is more important when trying to learn these sorts of things than having some random music playing. This is especially true, when it's 3am and you're trying to watch it, without waking everyone else in the house up.
The lsdt example... How do you determine where to go, like you decided to use PS + SM to find PM, but when it tried using PQ + QM it gave a different answer
that's because the vector SQ is supposed to have a direction like PS AND SQ. if u add PS +SM its equal to PQ-QR due to it being in opposite directions.
Maths Kitchen thanks a lot your videos are useful I was so confused about vectors a book can’t explain it 😂 and GCSEs are around the corner and I’m hoping to get 7 (a) wish me look

Now this is where the ambiguity appears as far as I am concerned. At 1.51 you show vector -b in the same position as vector b, why is that ? Why is it not shown starting at o and then extending the same length in the same direction as -b , but from point o ?
vector b takes you from O to B (must be in that direction) the notation that we use to describe a journey in the opposite direction, from B to O, is -b. The negative part is just telling you that it goes in the opposite direction to the small arrow. Does that help?
@@MathsKitchen. Most grateful for your reply. Still confused somewhat, in the following sense. If I have a vector [ A ] whose tail is at some position, say, x, y and has a magnitude of say, M, then the tail of - [ A ] should start at x, y and have length [ magnitude M] in the opposite direction. This what is confusing, as far as I am concerned. Do you see what I mean? Further clarification would be most welcome.
I think I see what you're saying, your thinking of it like it is being rotated 180 degrees around (x,y)? I can see the logic of the that but the reality is more like it's rotating 180 degrees around the midpoint of the line.
@@MathsKitchen . Thanks again for your reply. I believe the confusion lies in the notation. As an example, if you have a vector A of magnitude 2 say, lying on the positive x axis and starting at the origin [ 0,0 ] then -A would be vector of magnitude 2 , lying on the x axis 2 units in length from the origin in the negative direction...if you see what I mean.
The train analogy seems to completely fall apart when you're going to point P. There appears to be no logic to the fact that OP is 1/2a + 1/2b! So I guess you just have to trust the calculation.
Your noisy neighbour was playing annoying music all through your video! Before you make a video you should make sure your neighbours or flatmates turn their annoying music off. It's ridiculous making a maths video with that noise in the background!
The whole train track thing is incredibly helpful . Thanks :)

MATHS KITCHEN THE WAY YOU COOKED. (thanks you saved my grade)

This is my first exposure to the vector concept and your analogy is fantastic. Great video, very clear explanations.
I struggle with this!! This was extremely helpful, thank-you!
That's great to know, thank you!
I would recommend trying out the mathskitchen website i personally use it myself and it's great
Thank you! Mature OU maths degree student here (year one) after many years away from the subject. Your videos are so helpful!
Bit late to reply but i got a 8 in maths and am now studying physics at university so your videos definitely helped lol 😊

Hi Love Forever, glad you enjoyed it. I'm not sure what you mean by 'do you do GCSE work?' I teach GCSE Maths if that's what you mean?

I have a question. How are we able to calculate a distance or formula for midpoint “P” when the “railroads” never cross through that point?
How do you have 19.1k subs?
Do deserve way more!

My problem is, how do you determine the directions of these vectors in real application? Like which segment/s is/are opposite to other segments?
nah fr tho I don't get it
Finally understand this😩
If it's SQ, is it not supposed to be -a+b???
My paper is in 38 minute
Pqrs is the same triangle of the examle why you started with -b not -a?
My test is tomorrow and I was so insecure about vectors and the way you explain it seemed like message to me! Thank you so much!

Brilliant 👊
for the last question, can we also give the answer as a3/2 - 1/2b?
Hi Aman, no, for the last question (finding PM) that would be wrong. Is it possible you've made a mistake with the negatives and positives?
Never been taught this, thank goodness for this, you make it so clear so hopefully I can bag a few extra marks in todays exam

Like you...why not -b+a ? I don't understand which direction I have to choose. Is direction AB same to direction BA?
@@mima4287it’s because it depends on where the line your trying to find is going eg if it’s going up it would be different than to it going down
