I got one of my smaller tattoos (not my sleeve thank god) from the same place they did his (now) faded space work and it was completely blown out and raised against the skin. The worst part about it is they are very highly reviewed on Yelp in Los Angeles. Never again.
Bro, when he was talking about how he was listening to his friend's favourite song and then an hour later got the call saying he died an hour ago, that hit me man. I teared up.
Felix Vegge usually a faded puddle of color. A realistic tattoo will only last in black and grey and usually has to be super dark at first. When you see the tattoo this guy got a lot of the black shading is already weak and there’s no lines. When you don’t have solid thick black lines in a tattoo the color just puddles up and doesn’t add contrast. A guy like Tim Hendricks can do a portrait or “realistic” tattoo. And it will actually last for a life time, unlike this color puddle that kinda resembles a teddy bear and won’t in a year
ThisBodyIsAShell it really depends on how well the tattoo had been made... For example, if you tattoo hands, you have to shoot the ink deeper under the skin. And seeing how well his first tattoo held up, I think this one is to - and if it don't, they usually re-ink it, for free
I have never wanted a tattoo but seeing this guy's work has forced me to reconsider that.... It's like having a piece of art you'd find at the Louvre or any dope museum but on you forever.
Alexandra LoBasso tattoo artists are very particular of what they want to tat. Especially in social media age where all the artists are putting their work out there
I love how passionate the guy getting the tattoo is. There are so many stereotypes against tattoos and when I got my first one with my mother, she told me, “a tattoo, no matter what it is, signifies something specific about who you were in that point of time, so you can look back at when you were 17 and always remember what you felt or what made you, you” The way he tied in a billion elements to be a huge sentiment to who he loved is amazing. Seriously inspiring and a beautiful trait.
I have to say it, out of all the buzz feed videos this one tugged at my heart strings the most. God Bless you and fight the good fight and stay on that right path by staying clean !!!!
I love how dedicated the artist clearly is to his craft, from his quality of work to his customer policy. For me, it represents his pride as an artist and desire to make sure it is a piece that he will truly be proud of having worked on, as well as wanting to ensure that his art has meaning to the one getting it done. He wants to know the stories behind why someone wants what they do, making sure there is a deep emotional connection there that they can be reminded of every time they look at it, and that it looks good on their skin and any other work they have done. Really ensuring it is something that won't be regretted by either party later on. He is really putting a lot of soul and life into his work. I have a lot of admiration for him.
I absolutely love the fact he's open about addiction. It's just a taboo subject nowadays even though it kills more people than anything else. So glad he shared that part with us
wow all those people last year that said that the space stuff wasn't done right were actually kind of right. Like that was the stuff that faded first lol
You can also tell he didn't take care of it properly, looks like a lot of sun damage. When you have a tattoo, your skin care regime should come first lol. I have a big ass color piece on my arm and I try to lotion it as much as I can and always wear sunscreen during the summer... it's been a year and I always get compliments on how vibrant the colors are.
@@OrangeGraffiti yeah after you get a new piece, immediate aftercare is no. 1 priority is you want it to look good a year later, after that NEVER forget your sunblock
@@OrangeGraffiti It's still a poorly done tattoo. I have tattoos on my forearms. I work outside without sunscreen. 5 years later they are faded compared to how they looked new, but not even remotely close to being as faded as his space on looked.
The artist's reaction to when he came up with his idea made me so happy. That's like everyone's desire, for an artist to get legit excited about the art he or she is about to put on you
I was crying and all emotional about Ben admitting his drug problem and his friend passing away and how amazing the tattoo design was (even doe I also thought the idea was silly at first till he explained) bUT THEN THEY PAN UP TO HIS FACE AND HE SAYS "AH THATS REFRESHING " and I burst out laughing. Great video, guys.
That would work if tattoo prices weren't also based on the amount of time needed to do the tattoo. I have a line art tattoo that I should've paid at least 250 euros for and took 4 hours to set. Thankfully the artist had severely underestimated how much time she needed to set it and I only paid 175 euros.
since that's theft the $80 place would probably refuse to do it, well known artists have very distinct styles and if it's not immediately recognizable it would still be suspicious to get another person's artwork
@@thehecticchannel8054 definitely not theft. I highly doubt the 1,000 guy goes to the courthouse and patents every single design he does as intellectual property.
why does everybody think he has such a big ego??? I don't see it. I think people forget that tattoo artists ARE artists that collaborate with you. You get a permanent piece on YOUR body, sure, but the tattoo artist has something THEY created on you. Anyways would he really him tattoing his idea if he didn't like it?
yes exactly this ! im an artist as well and when people ask me to do unoriginal paitings copied from like pinterest i don't get inspired so i totally understand him!
Letterings are basic on any artist should be no problem, i am not an artist just a guy who loves tattoo.. but its just lettering should be ok. U can go for walk ins artist, pros is cheap can do it right away. Cons. Personal opinion risk for not clean things. And low quality ink. Point is if u just want letterings any artist can do it. Questionsgould be is how much are u willing to pay. If u have good budget go for a good artist he may suggest additional to letterings and make it more good for you or if u sont have enough budget just go for a good shop who is clean u dont want infection or anything
@@carlosams7980 It's not that he can't do it, it's not his preference. Certain artists only do lettering, it's all about finding the artist who's style lines up with what you want
@@carlosams7980 yeah. lettering is pretty basic. but even though lettering is a form of art, some him and I guess possibly some artists, it isn't. I consider lettering and calligraphy a form of art, but i can understand his preference to let images speak instead. it's like trying to play draw something but just writing the word instead
I like it..but... I thought he would have done the surrounding of the composition a little more like the oil painting he did. It seemed like there was just something that was missing on the tattoo portion, especially needed some more detail to tie in the bright blue globe logo - it felt separated
@@TTorace dude, you're either going to an artist that's underselling themselves or you're not familiar with how tattoos are priced. I'm going with the latter.
Damn the way the man takes an idea and says no untill he can incorporate it into the pre existing tattoos to continue the whole picture is really amazing
i think its a really cool concept, but that is at very poorly executed tattoo, it has no solid crisp outline so it will fade and bleed in the future, it has strange placement that makes it not very readable, the shadows look unrealistic like something rushed with an airbrush, the color is not vibrant or properly packed and a tattoo of that size should take way more than 4 hours especially in that price range.
I think the image is flipped around the wrong way. Like the damaged side of the bear was on the wrong side... I might be mistaken by the shots taken in mirrors tho
I am currently wearing a $1,000. Fine line tattoo. You definitely get more detail for your money. The extra personalized attention is nice as well. You walk out with a real piece of art . Most of the time I was the only customer. The pure talent and ability of my artist is mind bending. If you are going to a piece that is larger in size. Spend the $200.+ an hour.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and for me personally, this tattoo artist is better at painting than tattooing. I would give the space bear tattoo a 2/5.
I’m getting a tattoo in memory of someone really close to me who passed. We always enjoyed our time together and hardly ever took pics because we just never really thought to take our phones out and keep memory of the moments. I wish I had now and this tattoo will remind me of all those moments we had. I love you Christopher Micah Harger RIP.
LMAO. That was horrible from the line work to shading. This is what happens when you don't do your research. The guy doesn't even want you as a customer and that's why he keeps putting you off. Come back in 2 years said by no real tattoo artist EVER
@@Alucard.L00-PjG I wonder what kind of job you are looking into. I work in a hospital with a full sleeve. Also, you could always wear a long sleeve dress shirt. Obviously, I am talking about tattoos within reason. I wouldn't recommend getting something silly like a face or neck tattoo. In the end, I honestly wouldn't want a tattoo from your tattoo artist. I would feel uncomfortable having someone question every unnecessary part of personal life for his tattoo.
I’ve never heard of a tattoo artist who says “give me some time” after a session my artist is always “yea man come back anytime” Although I do like the tattoo that was kinda weird
He was referring to his possible desire of wanting another bear tattoo. As referenced back to on the video Scott, the artist, was reluctant to do a bear tattoo as he wasn’t feeling it. It actually took him a full year to revert his decision on the initial bear idea and was simply saying, “if you want another bear tattoo give me some time on that.”
Maybe he somewhere, deep down, actually knows how crap he is at tattooing, so he wanted a few years to get atleast the skills of a blind apprentice so he can stop making a joke of himself on the internets.
Thank u for publicly sharing your story... it's hard to be open about our struggles in fear that we'd be judged. I too just got tatted as a reminder to stay strong... AMAZING TAT ;)
I really like how much Scott cares about his work and his clients. It's not just getting a tattoo, it's about a work of art that takes a long time to perfect visually, and he doesn't take any clients lightly. Love it
my heart breaks for Pat's family and friends. This was a beautiful episode. Thanks to Ben for sharing. :) Beautiful interpretation of what he had wanted on his tattoo, too!
Not worth $1000......not even close. That's a $300-$400 tattoo tops. He's charging that much because he labels himself as an "artist". He didn't want to do your idea of the bear a year ago because he didn't like the idea....and then all he comes up with is "the bear in a spacesuit"? That's not a genius idea. That took all of 30 seconds to come up with....and then he didn't even do a good job of it.
I feel the same way! Like the only reason he's doing it now is because of the recognition, and the whole "I don't put text in my art" thing, like a true artist can overcome any obstacle that's thrown at them, I just think he's a little pretentious, and should be more open to what the client wants
I agree. It is not worth $1000 for 4 hours. The parts outside of the bear lacked precision and detail, it just looked like a pencil sketch. Unless he likes and is willing to pay for pencil sketch...
Yeah all the tattoos they showed were good but not great. There are amazing tattoo artists out there that produce stuff that will blow your mind but this isn't at that level.
I got a tattoo done as my first tattoo by Zhang Po. it was also a 1000 dollar tattoo. compare Po's work to this guy and youll be able to see the huge difference. This guys work is shaky at best.
I clicked on this video thinking it was about getting an expensive tattoo. I couldn't have been more wrong. I'm bawling so it's hard to try and properly express what I need to say. I'm also in recovery (just shy of 7.5 years) and I have lost more loved ones than I can count to the epidemic. I feel that we (meaning people in recovery) need to talk about it more because recovery is possible! Life isn't sunshine and rainbows for anyone. Please hear me when I say, be there for those you love who need you. You never know when you might just save a life. And it's imperative that we change the conversation from "junkies are dying" to "humans are able to recover and create a beautiful life, not only for themselves, but for everyone around them". 💖
It's very true. Its HUMANS struggling. It aches hurts beyond when people who don't understand or Know the pain and darkness judge and label. People don't just get up and decide heck I'm going to destroy my and others lives. But it feels so hopeless to try to get them to understand.
You have such a bad opioid replacement therapy programme in the us. In the uk the problem is far less significant because it’s very easy to get a prescription for methadone or subutex and any pharmacy can give you methadone whereas in the us you have to go to special methadone clinics which usually have massive queues. Also in the uk if someone has been addicted for ten years they get a pure pharmaceutical heroin (diamorphine) prescription which is probably the most effective and safe treatment option. Rehabs simply don’t work they have a like 95% failure rate and they rip people off charging huge amounts giving them false hope. Medication assisted treatment is the most effective however it’s stigmatised for no real reason. I was addicted to morphine codeine and heroin for two years now I’m on methadone I can live a normal and happy life and I don’t have to go somewhere everyday to pick up only once a week. Soon will he once a month.
i don't want to sound negative or anything but i feel like this tattoo could have been so much better. The concept is very unique and interesting but the artist execution just wasn't that great, especially since he's charging $250 per hour. That's like top artist pay and just pausing the video at 12:20, looking at a fresh tattoo(the colors should be the most vibrant they'll ever be) it already looks dull and some one the lines are shaky and sloppy. for $1000 i feel like you could've went to another artist who doesn't seem so stuck up and gotten a much more better/vibrant tattoo.
I agree, dont wanna sound like it's a bad tattoo - but there shaky lines, inconsistent blurred shading, and for that price tag, you should be expecting a much better tattoo than what he got. There is great artist out there that charge way cheaper and much better quality.
I just don’t like the last comment he made... hm this channel promoted him and that’s the way he says thank you? Also why so so far in advanced? And there is an emotional theme to the tattoo and he thinks it’s a good idea to make that comment?
Yeah... seems rushed and during the consultation he didn't really seem to be feeling it. I've gotten similar tattoos to this one for more than half this price.
Honestly, this episode nearly broke me. A lot of shyt Ben was talking about hit home hard. I myself used to have a huge issue with pain medication. I was taking waaaay more than my prescribed doses & was dating an enabler. That was about 3 1/2Yrs ago, & while I’m still on my pain meds, I no longer crave it. Unfortunately, one of my most precious friends, my knight, didn’t wake up & died in his sleep from (what we suspect) a drug overdose. That was on Oct. 1st; he had just turned 37. His name was Ben & I’ve been trying to figure out a tat idea to honor him. I already have 3 memorial tats & 6 other pieces of art from Paul Wren, Owner of Old Ghost in Melbourne, FL. So yeah, hit me in the feels. Also, phenomenal ink art! I love it!
Being a recovering addict I know how much it means to have a tattoo that helps remind me of how far I've come in my sobriety. This tattoo came out awesome, I'm hoping one day I can afford to fly to LA and get a piece done at speak easy
lawless vapors well plane tickets are $350-$450. Just bought mine, definitely getting something done while I’m there. (Those were the cheapest btw) but I need to find a quality shop that could potentially fit in a walk in or schedule an appointment by two weeks
You don't necessarily need harsh outlines. The bear is surrounded by some heavy black, so its shape should remain intact. The bottom of the helmet, however, will likely disappear. I think he should've lined it, but I'm not a tattoo artist so 🤷♂️ (Given how soft the bottom of the tattoo is, I'm assuming he did that intentionally in preparation for a sleeve but who knows)
yeah but the tattoo artist is a prick to be honest. The tattoo wasn't and isn't worth that much. Just my opinion but I can get something like that for cheaper and higher quality with an artist who isn't like that
@@sarahbosson2291 mmm its true that some artist wouldn't say what he says, but I can see Scotts point of view as an artist myself. Sometimes I would not be able to create something as great if I dont like the concept of idea? So Scott may not think he can create the best work if he isnt feeling it. Also has to do with his style, so if it doesnt go with it, lots of artists may reject the projects offered to them.
Hearing all these people talk about the line work on the tattoo or that Scott is not good as a tattooist and that he is cocky is really sadly disappointing this guy is a really good artist and coming from his perspective and as an artist myself you can’t just draw what someone wants you need an idea and an image of how this picture/tattoo is going to look like I really admire his work and hope to achieve my level of drawing like him and one day possibly get a tattoo with that level of creativity and neatness🥰🤧💖
@@YooBro219 No. He's a great artist, great artistic value. He's just a bad tattooer. Those lines are god awful. I'm an apprentice, I've seen enough good and bad tattoos. This is not worth 1,000 dollars.
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE TATTOO? I mean is this just him placesetting colors and the client is coming back for him to finish the design? I'm confused. Its not finished tho. I wouldn't want unfinished work be shown on TV.
Buzzfeed had deadlines, and most artists won't do a full color, detailed piece for longer than 4 hours at a time, especially with the sizing. It can cause clients to pass out/get dizzy, mostly because it's over a muscle which is tender.
I struggled with drug abuse too, and finally quit this year, this video made me tear up. It is insane what drugs can do. It isn’t a smart decision and has left a negative impact on my life because of it, but that doesn’t stop me from trying to make the best of each day and have a good time

Felix Vegge usually a faded puddle of color. A realistic tattoo will only last in black and grey and usually has to be super dark at first. When you don’t have solid thick black lines in a tattoo the color just puddles up and doesn’t add contrast. A guy like Tim Hendricks can do a portrait or “realistic” tattoo. That's why it shouldn't be the artists place to stop anyone from getting what they want. They are just pretentious
I love how passionate the guy getting the tattoo is. There are so many stereotypes against tattoos and when I got my first one with my mother, she told me, “a tattoo, no matter what it is, signifies something specific about who you were in that point of time, so you can look back at when you were 17 and always remember what you felt or what made you, you”
The way he tied in a billion elements to be a huge sentiment to who he loved is amazing. Seriously inspiring and a beautiful trait.

A 1000 dollar tattoo can definitely be worth it if the artist is excellent.

How to get the perfect tattoo
1. Get artwork of something custom from the $1,000 guy
2. Get it tatted at the $80 place
That would work if tattoo prices weren't also based on the amount of time needed to do the tattoo. I have a line art tattoo that I should've paid at least 250 euros for and took 4 hours to set. Thankfully the artist had severely underestimated how much time she needed to set it and I only paid 175 euros.
Biggest finesse lmao
Nope. I don’t think the $80 shop could pull off what that artist was doing.
Clearly he is a master at his craft. Just look around his place.
since that's theft the $80 place would probably refuse to do it, well known artists have very distinct styles and if it's not immediately recognizable it would still be suspicious to get another person's artwork

Letterings are basic on any artist should be no problem, i am not an artist just a guy who loves tattoo.. but its just lettering should be ok. U can go for walk ins artist, pros is cheap can do it right away. Cons. Personal opinion risk for not clean things. And low quality ink. Point is if u just want letterings any artist can do it. Questionsgould be is how much are u willing to pay. If u have good budget go for a good artist he may suggest additional to letterings and make it more good for you or if u sont have enough budget just go for a good shop who is clean u dont want infection or anything

i think its a really cool concept, but that is at very poorly executed tattoo, it has no solid crisp outline so it will fade and bleed in the future, it has strange placement that makes it not very readable, the shadows look unrealistic like something rushed with an airbrush, the color is not vibrant or properly packed and a tattoo of that size should take way more than 4 hours especially in that price range.

It was clearly a joke dude
Maybe he somewhere, deep down, actually knows how crap he is at tattooing, so he wanted a few years to get atleast the skills of a blind apprentice so he can stop making a joke of himself on the internets.

So as a recovered addict of 7 years thank you for helping spead the message. Thank you. We are not all bad ppl. Just made bad choices.
And after a year, the tattoo looked pretty faded. I don't know very much about tattoos though, so maybe that amount of fading is normal.

I was thinking the same thing I’m like this thing looks like something you could get at any shop for about $250
100% not worth a grand. $1000 is top artist prices ive seen 1 year tattooists do crisper work
I just don’t like the last comment he made... hm this channel promoted him and that’s the way he says thank you? Also why so so far in advanced? And there is an emotional theme to the tattoo and he thinks it’s a good idea to make that comment?
Yeah... seems rushed and during the consultation he didn't really seem to be feeling it. I've gotten similar tattoos to this one for more than half this price.
this artist seems like a legit guy and that's really cool
Honestly, this episode nearly broke me. A lot of shyt Ben was talking about hit home hard. I myself used to have a huge issue with pain medication. I was taking waaaay more than my prescribed doses & was dating an enabler. That was about 3 1/2Yrs ago, & while I’m still on my pain meds, I no longer crave it.
Unfortunately, one of my most precious friends, my knight, didn’t wake up & died in his sleep from (what we suspect) a drug overdose. That was on Oct. 1st; he had just turned 37. Tattoos like this without harsh outline don't hold up well yearS later.... Do your research before getting crazy blurred/watercolored tattoos.
Kelsey Kaplan THIS IS SO TRUE
You don't necessarily need harsh outlines. The bear is surrounded by some heavy black, so its shape should remain intact. The bottom of the helmet, however, will likely disappear. I think he should've lined it, but I'm not a tattoo artist so 🤷♂️
(Given how soft the bottom of the tattoo is, I'm assuming he did that intentionally in preparation for a sleeve but who knows)
