Grimes playing an unknown track during an unplugged session. The lovely Claire Boucher does it again! Recorded on Nov 19, 2010 at the corner of Parc Ave. and Van Horne Ave. in Montreal. Original broadcast from TV McGill
“We went down into the basement of this crazy abandoned building - this is Montreal in the dead of winter, like negative 40. It was great but my fingers froze so it was really hard to play. People kept having to blow on my fingers, it was so painful. If you watch closely you can see a piece of the roof fall and hit me in the head as I’m playing [laughs]. That was really fun!” - Grimes, The Skinny (February 2012)
@@guitaria66636 that's my reality, born and raised in montreal ! i lived in a "poor" neighborhood but i had lots of friends and we were chasing abandoned buildings, there was a lot of them, we would break in, we would climb on rooftops jumping from house to house ( the appartments were so close to each other), throwing snowballs in windows, making graffitis...we were all "poor kids" but i wouldn't exchange my childhood with any rich kids, it was that fun ! pretty sure everyone born in the 80s in montreal can relate !
She claims through the media to have a poor singing voice yet without any vocal equipment being used at all in this solo performence she sounds perfect and genuinely unique.
Yes. I sing and heard early on in her voice that if her she was just flowing raw..”unplugged” it would be angelic. I remember hearing/watching this the first time and I play Uke after years of guitar but anyways this is still mesmerizing and well no words! If there is perfection then this is a prime example:)✨💫🌙

Every single time I see/hear something new from her, or even something I haven't seen before(like this) it always...ALWAYS makes me fall more in love with her than before. Both as a creative inspiration to my own music...and as a beautiful human being in her own right.
No doubt about it, she is one of the most unique and talented artists we may ever encounter. However, she did come from a prestigious background. Her vocals appear trained, natural talent no doubt, but whether you are in your car for an hour a day belting or getting lessons from a professional, her voice is trained. She was trained in ballet also, pretty sure this is widely known but it’s good to keep in mind that only wealthy, boujie families put their children in ballet. Not judging, honestly wish my family would have. Go grimes. Even if we want to go as far to say she wasn’t trained in these things, she was financially and creatively supported by her family to embrace these things- whether she was aware of it or not. So really, if you add that with a combination of beauty and talent, well yeah, of course Elon is going to knock her up. Grimes is real and relatable, this is why we appeal to her. But sadly, as a true fan, I have realized that she is not a diamond in the rough. She is a product of wealth and she is simply following the path that was paved for her. Sure, she may seem rebellious from going against her family’s culture, but coming from a similar family myself, I believe her and I both know that families like this truly only speak one language: money. So, her becoming successful on her own doing something completely opposing from her parents is her ultimate “I made it”. I don’t care how “unique” she was from her conservative parents; the only thing dictating her future, was money. Being born into it, and not knowing how to be without it after that. As any other human would. And the same will always go for the rest of us. It is rare that you witness someone who goes far off from their familial monetary background. Grimes is no exception. This comment isn’t here to burst your bubble, it’s here to open your eyes and realize that this should change, because as real as it may be, it is only this way because society has created it this way. Be the change you wish to see. Also, I love you no matter what grimes, you have gotten me through many dark times and I know you were there in those dark times yourself too. Your music says it all, so I don’t give a fuck how you got here, I would not be the same without you and I love you. So, while I am entitled to my own opinion, I have the utmost love and respect for you as an artist. Thank you for existing, my life would not be the same without you.
