  • The first ever worldwide album from the East African Republic of Djibouti and Ostinato's first studio record album. A stunning collision of Indian Bollywood, Jamaican dub and reggae, sleek horns inspired by Harlem’s jazz era, and the haunting and joyous synthesizer melodies of the Red Sea by Groupe RTD, the national radio band and one of East Africa’s best kept secrets.

This is Somali Djiboutian music, not just Djiboutian since Djiboutian has 60mpercent Somalis, 30 percent afar, 10 percent arabs Indians etc, the broad term Djiboutian without qualifying the language of this music and artist or the ethnicity, is disingenuous to artistic integrity ..this beautiful song is in the Somali language, and sang by an ethnic Somali woman whose not only from Djibouti but from Greater Somalia, since she had close relatives and family members from the Somali region of Ethiopia, and the Awdal Regio of Somalia

Much to my shame I'd never heard of the country called Djibouti, but thankfully Ostinato Records & Groupe RTD have put that right. Located in the cultural melting pot of East Africa & with all music strictly state controlled, this LP is a the first ever international recording & a funky, swinging, shake until you ache joy.

Djibouti is ethnically populated by an ethnic Somali majority, the Issa clan of the Dir Somali, Somalis make up 60 percent of the population, the remaining 30 percent are the afar, are closely related ethnic group..technically amd historically speaking Djibouti is Somali hence why this song, composed by Groupe RTD the only band sponsored by the Djibouti Governkent, is in Somali language as are all the other songs of this band, they're in Somali language because Djibouti 🇩🇯 is and always has been and shall continue to be an ethnically Somali country ruled and dominated by the Native Somali Issa clan of the larger Dir clan family of the Somalis

The ancient name of this historic Somali land has changed over 6000 years, initially known as the Land of Punt to ancient Egyptians who called it the land of the Gods and their ancestral source of origin, subsequently documented as the Macrobian Kingdom by Herodotus, later known to the ancient greeks and Roman Empire as Regio Aromatica, from the 9th century it was the nexus of the powerful Islamic kingdoms led by the Somali Walashma dynasty of the Adal Kingdom, Sultanate og Ifat and famous Adal Sultanate which became tne first african Kingdom to introduce matchlock guns and cannons in their armies during tne wars with the Abyssinian empire supported by the Portuguese empire who were defeated by the Somalis of the Adel Sultanate which ruled modern Djibouti, northern Somalia, the Somali Ogaden region, the Afar state of Ethiopia, and the lands of the Harari, Gurage, Hadiya and Eastern Oromo people of Ethiopia
Djibouti today is still ruled by Somalis, with a majority Somali population and the music you just listened to is Somali, if you knew how poetic it was, how Shakespearen and linguistically complex and beautiful it was in its use of poetic romantic metaphors, you'd be amazed

I'm Somali raised in England, but i perfectly understood the entire song, every verse, and I enjoyed the alliteration, rhythmic pattern, iambic pentameter, metaphors, similes, romantic and religious imagery, and all of the other linguistic and literary devices I analysed while listening to this song many times

The title hasn't been translated correctly, it literally translates to, 'From Men the One I Gaze Upon/Look At...this is an issue I dislike with western people who don't have PHDs in linguistics and anthropology and are experts in the Somali language like I M Lewis who would accurately translate extremely complex 300 verse classic epic poetry from the Gabay genre with ease, yet here we have some unqualified parochial westerner who mistranslates a simple sentence
Rag means men, Kaan means of which, ka eegtow means I look upon or chose to look at or gaze upon, very simple, I don't kmow where they got that English translation which translated the song name or title as you are the one I love, firstly that Somali sentence doesn't even use any of thr Somali words for love such as jacayl, it also doesn't even use the word 'you' which is adiga or contracted as 'adaa' instead it says clearly 'Rag Kaan Ka Eegtow' which any Somali speaking person will translate as 'of men/out of men the one I look upon/gaze at'

@@OstinatoRecords that's a stupid thing to say, this is your channel, and I corrected the translation which any somali can verify, the onus is on you to amend your title, I didn't speak about the band of this song and how they thought the best translation was, I spoke about your title

@@hassanabdikarimmohamed2505 it’s the BANDS song, and the BANDs translation. They cannot do anything about it, only the band can. You’d have to speak with the band themselves to change it. It’s not stupid lmao it’s not theirs to change.
