I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I've been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I've qualified for seven MLF Championships and won over a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.
I feel for you. It's the same way here in Iowa. Sad day. I agree with you on the amount of gas left in the tank.
Sad day
Couple thoughts..
In the past Stabil was one of the poorer products to use as it would react with any alcohol (ethanol) n the fuel. Sea foam is considered a preferable product. I’ve routinely used Seafoam for years in chain saws, etc. that may not get started for over a year and I’ve never had an issue. They fire right up and run well. Perhaps Stabil has been changed but I stick with Seafoam because it works
Storing a partial tank of gas over winter invites condensation and moisture collection. I live in northern Indiana and try to keep my vehicle tanks 3/4 full or above. If you get moisture from condensation which then freezes t can fall into the tank. It can then react with ethanol which is hydroscopic
If you’re storing your boat outdoors be sure to lower the motor so rain water doesn’t collect, freeze, and crack your lower unit
Thanks for sharing
Matt, Stabil makes a marine grade fuel stabilizer that is more concentrated than the red stuff, also, don't forget trailer wheel bearing lubrication
Thanks
Great tips!!! Stay Safe & God Bless!!! 🤠👍
Thanks, you too!
I hear that Matt put my boat away last weekend. Great boat tips thanks bud 👍🏻
Good stuff
Matt: I agree the day we put the boat away in WI is always a sad day. 5 to 6 months without open water is a long time. I’m not an ice fisherman so this is always a very long “dry” spell. I have an older 50 HP Yamaha 2 cycle so I “fog” the engine as well and change the lower unit oil too. After 22 years she still runs amazingly well. I also drop fuel tank levels and stabilize. Never any problem. If it works why change the process. Since boats cost so much we can’t be to careful. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. P.S. I clean and wax the boat as well. God Bless.
thanks for sharing
Great tips , I hate this time of year and putting the boat away.
its a sad time of year
Thanks Matt , Were lucky here, no ice for last three. Just pickup active target 2.
Sounds good
Hello from Northern IL. Thank you for the winter storage tips. It's a bummer to put the boat away for 4-5 months. Let's hope for an early spring. Happy Thanksgiving and thank you for the excellent vids
Happy Thanksgiving
Needing to store the boat for six months doesn’t sound pleasant, but I’m jealous of you getting snow already. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for above average snowfall here in Nashville.
you can have it!
I started hooking into more musky then bass the last few trips , so i figured the season was about to wrap up. looks like we will also be icing over here in nw pennsylvania next week. We also have no days above freezing the next 2 weeks. Time to break out the auger and shanty
It’s ending fast
Matt just to share some info about stabill, I've had gasoline stored for 2yrs and the fuel performed as expected now go and seal them holes in the garage 👍
thanks for sharing!
Thank you, Matt Winter's rising may tacker xl next week .
Go for it
For what it is worth, there is apparently a new study showing that storing lithium batteries between 20-80% of full charge is better for them than storing them at 100%.
I’m looking into it.
interesting
There's been a lot of studies it for quite a while that show lithium batteries are best served not storing at 100%. That 40-70 range I believe was best for the ions
Thanks for the tips. How do you prevent water from staying in the block and freezing?
I drain it completely
Need to box that Rooster up and send to Becker for Christmas care package !😂
I might!
Remembering when you used your toenail on a crankbait, how about pulling a few feathers of your rooster and tie up a jig. Happy Thanksgiving!
Could happen
I wasn't quite so sad until you counted off how many months our Central WI boats will be hibernating... 😒
depressing
Mike Swofford Matt, you and your have a Happy Thanksgiving.
Happy Thanksgiving
Mike Swofford Forgot to prove read , you and your family , have a Happy Thanksgiving .and
Haha
Feel bad for you Matt. I'm blessed to be able to fish all 12 months.
im jealous
I took a mouse night fishing once idling around felt something crawling on my arm it was a damn mouse. 😀👍👍👍👍
hahaha
Put my boat in storage 2 weeks 8:52 was a sad day. I've treated the gas with stability also but removed my batteries and stored them in the garage . Now im going to put a,few dryer sheets inside to deture mice
😂🐀🤣🐀🤣🐀🤣
I put a bunch of mothballs on my pontoon boat before I put the cover on it keeps all the critters in mice and all that crap out
Good idea
MATT THERE IS SOMETHING BEHIND YOU
Ok
You said your new boat arriving soon. I had not heard you were able to sell the old boat. Please verify
Yep old boat sold in October
Pro tip: if you have to store your boat....Move Far Away!
Haha
Matt had a hard time following the content with the chickens stealing the show. 😅
