I have Spawn 1 through 12 all in perfect condition. I was just researching what they may be worth and I stumbled across this channel. Loved spawn as a kid.
I get the hype with newsstand editions. I have marvel premiere 57-60 newsstand (Doctor Who run) but there is just something with the Spawn direct copies that look so much cleaner to me.
Yeah, image comics were really a very niche market. They weren't your Spider-Man and Superman comics that would appear at the supermarket. The comic book store was about the only place you could find something like that. I'm not a collector but it just seems ridiculous that a comic with a UPC code on it makes any sort of difference in this value.
Awesome book my friend! Too bad cgc doesn't recognize the newsstand over the direct versions. I have a high grade raw #1 newsstand that I found locally for $40 that I'm super happy about! Great video bud!
what do you mean too bad? regardless of selling- you can always advertise the newsstand variant and include photos. Basically a non-issue for most books with the online market now days.
Of course you can ... people add ‘NewsStand’ to their Listing title even when it’s not one just to put their book at the top of search results. It’s just irritating that CGC is so inconsistent in recognizing NewsStands (They do on some book’s labels and just ignore it on others for no reason whatsoever). Just feel like they warrant a mention on the label. The same way they distinguish which Comic store the cover is “Exclusive to” for modern variant covers, or mention 1st appearances, or hell even let you know that the Red Foil Cover Version Lethal Protector #1 indeed has red foil on the cover 😂. Just gets annoying

Around that time I was collecting comics and have a lot of Valiant and Image comics mostly first editions and first appearances and some autographed with certificates in mint condition stored in protective cases properly and now I'm barely coming around to see their worth
I have this same newstand copy of Spawn#1 in superb condition, only slight whitening on the spine. It's boarded and sleeved, should I have it graded? Love your vids and the CGC, great to see this awesome comic highlighted! Spawn is my fav book and hero since I was a kid!
Did you know that for some reason on Spawn #8 cgc does delineate if the book is newsstand or not? On Spawn 8 it separates the upc’s from the direct on the census. There are almost 500 cgc 9.8’s, but ONLY 3 newsstand cgc 9.8’s! None signed! Why would it separate them on Spawn 8 but not on Spawn 1!? I wish they did.
Wow, I had no idea that the newstand version was actually worth anything! I was a huge McFarlane fan from his Spider-Man stuff, so I grabbed a few copies of Spawn #1 when it first came out, and just noticed one copy has the UPC, and the other copy doesn't have anything extra on the cover.... I guess it might be worth actually getting this thing professionally graded? I just assumed that all of the books I bought back in the 90's were pretty much worthless due to so many being in circulation... And I also noticed that many of the characters got new books in the 90's, which I assume was so that they could produce new #1 Issues so the investment speculators thought they were getting in at the ground floor :) And I'm in Canada! Wish I knew people cared about the version with the ugly UPC code one it... My copy has been in a boarded bag since I first finished reading it, so I assume it should be in pretty good shape.
cool just got one for $25.00 bucks , spent 130.00 on a few from local street dude i know , have the incredible hulk#212 ,xforce #2 , the infinity crusade #1, Moribius 312 midnight massacre and the whole collection of marvel 1992 card set :) $130.bucks I think I came off nice ! the reason i watched your vid cuz i wanted to see who has to say what about em , TY - Subscribed

Do you think it’s still worth it to invest in a Spawn #1 non-newsstand in CGC 9.8? Unfortunately the newsstand is out of my price range now 😩
