Why here is another WUKONG? Here I wanna add some background and true hidden stories about WUKONG. 1，The true and false Monkey King is a chapter of Journey to the West, because the disobedient Wukong had a conflict with Tang Seng and knocked him down. However, in the the book, it is said that fake Wukong was the one who defeated Tang Seng, and no one can tell who is the real and who is the fake. Their combat effectiveness is also the same, and they even have the same weapon-the golden hoop. In the end, the Buddha distinguished the real Wukong and the real Wukong killed the fake Wukong. Wukong has the ability to morph into any shape or form. He prolly used the ability to take up the form of the monster he defeated earlier. He does this multiple times in the novel too, and sometimes uses it as a disguise to sneak into enemy territory!

The numbers dont really mean anything here. Wukong's first master offered to teach him either of those techniques, and Wukong chose the version with the larger number because he thought that meant it was more powerful 😂

The little old man(which btw is the lord of soil of that particular area) said "像" twice(5:43) which means the protagonist has the likeness/resemblance of somebody. The wolf leader(the one that wields a double sword that is on fire) said "huh? Another monkey?"(3:39). According to the lore(journey to the west), there are 4 monkeys that are as strong as the monkey king Wu Kong. Also, the last scene where the monkey wielding the iconic monkey king staff (the marking that lights up one by one is the name of that iconic staff "如意金箍棒") and armor stop the protagonist from killing that beast, that one may actually be the real monkey king. So the protagonist is most likely one of the 4 monkeys or maybe he is one of the clones of the true monkey king. But that's just a guess.

I noticed some of you may get confused about plot and characters in this video. I’m gonna explain them to you. Wu kong, also called the Monkey King, is the protagonist in a Chinese literature classic, The Journey to the West. For us Chinese who do not have Marvel or other cartoons, he is like Captain American for Americans. You may do not understand who the monkey with a golden armor appeared when the protagonist is going to kill the big dog is. The golden inscription in his stick written in a traditional style of calligraphy(篆) says golden cudgel (如意金箍棒). It shows that this golden monkey is monkey king, because golden cudgel is monkey king’s exclusive weapon. After that, there comes a lot of scenarios. Some of them come from the journey to west; some come from Havoc in Heaven. This happens before the journey to west. After the Jade Emperor (the supreme deity of Chinese folk legend), decieved Wu kong twice, Wu kong granted himself the Great Sage Equaling Heaven and defeated a hundred thousand soldiers and generals from Heaven. The scene when Wu kong is fighting on the cloud is this story. Here is another guess about the plot. The storyteller at the beginning looks like a monkey. The ribbon in his clothes is floating, which suggests that he may be a Buddha. In the journey to west, Wu kong with his master and two junior fellow apprentices is going to the west to get Buddhist scriptures. After he got them, he was granted Buddha of Victorious Strife. So the old storyteller may be Buddha of Victorious Strife. According to legend, people will have different incarnates when they achieved certain state in practicing Buddhism or Taoism. The protagonist, the golden monkey, the old storyteller may be different incarnates of Wu kong. To achieve a higher level, he must kill all his incarnates.

Check what the old monk(maybe the REAL WuKong at his old age) said at the beginning,"the real him was already dead on the journey to the West",that's based on one story in the book, The Real and The Fake Monkey King.In the myth story the real WuKong got over it,but in the game,maybe the fake one replaced the real one and continued the journey, granted Buddhahood. Maybe that's the reason why this game is called Black myth. Dude you can't imagine how excited when i was watching this, you have a tons of super heroes like Super Man, Spider Man, but for hundreds of years, all Chinese kids we only have one and we only want one single super hero and his name is Sun WuKong.
I'm loving the game so far. It's kinda similar to Ghost of Tshushima but this game is on another level. We never ask for this kind of game like your character is wu kong/monkey but we are surprise that we getting this kind of game and it's so good. The werewolf boss part, it's only half a chapter in the game. The same chapter was played live on PC by some Chinese media team, and they confirmed the actual game is actually better than what you are seeing here. There are several rendering of other bosses in game were released, from these, it is confirmed, so far Game Science has completed at least 6 to 8 chapters.

During this journey, He and his master San Zang has to overcome 81 challenges before they successfully return the ancient capital of China. - Because the monsters on the route heard the rumour that anyone who has eaten Wu Kong's master Tang San Zang will be become immortal, so every monster tried to capture Tang San Zang when he pass their territory. And Wu Kong and two other followers of Tang San Zang have to defeat all the monsters during the journey. - After they meet the Buddha and get the scrolls, Wu Kong was promoted to one of the buddha. (The old monk in the clip should be in this form) ...... Vast and complicated mythology universe behind this.

Chinese myth system is completely different and attractive, I think if this game can be successful, then they may make other Chinese myth story, wukong is very powerful and popular hero, but he is only one of many hero and characters. There are lots of wonderful stories we can tell. Even they only make wukong game, at least they can tell around 81 stories, so if they want, they can make many DLC and players can play more than 1000 hours.
My man... That is not Wukong. The monkey with the armor on with a golden staff right after you see after the "Wukong" beats the giant wolf, that is the real Monkey King. After his birth, he became the Monkey King. His ability can transform into 72 different animals and objects. Each of his hairs have transformative powers, and he can magically manipulate wind, water and fire as well. Wukong also search his suitable weapon until he acquired the Golden-banded staff, the stabilizer of the Four Seas and a treasure of Ao Guang, the dragon-king of the Eastern Seas. The Monkey King is the only creature strong enough to wield the staff-like weapon and there is an instant affinity between them. The Golden-banded staff can change its size, elongate, fly and attack opponents according to its master's will. It weighs 13,500 jīn or 7960 kg. When not wielding the weapon, the Monkey King shrinks it down to the size of a sewing needle and stores it in his ear. At first the Jade Emperor of the heaven was not interested in him, but he later invited him to the heaven where Wukong became 'Protector of the Horses', or stableman, which is the lowest ranking job in heaven. When Wukong discovered this, he was not happy and rebelled against the heaven, until the Buddha came who imprisoned Wukong under a mountain. 500 years later, a Buddhist monk, Tang Sanzang, or Tang Seng, released Wukong who became his disciple. The left corner you have four skills, copy, freeze the time, defense, and the other one I am not sure. but that is Wu Kong's power(maybe you can change different skills like god of war because Wu Kong has much more power). The right corner has two traditional Chinese Words, which means Monkey and Wolf. According to the myth, WuKong has 72 different transforms. when the character killed the first boss, the word of Wolf appeared in the right corner. I guess they want to create a system that you can transform into that small boss once you defeat it, if they are crazy enough, you can have 72 weapons and attack style. For the story, I guess the whole story will be a journey of finding the truth. when the character was trying to kill that boss, you saw there is another monkey stopped him. connected to the beginning(that bold, old monkey), here are some really interesting questions: is Wukong lost his memory then meet his own illusion? was Wukong replaced and the fake Wu Kong found him? Or the character is just a copy of the real one? I believe that the story will be so insane !! What is more, a slight correction, although this game is largely based on the original journey to the west, the setting actually comes from another book called Wukong(I really don't know the official translation).here is my proof，the boss in the demo called 灵虚子(I personally called it Void immortal, something like that). it's also an immortal myth creature that was originally a wolf. In the journey to the west, it was killed by Wu Kong at the very beginning of the journey(it is obvious cause they show up in the same location called 观音禅院：the temple of Guanyin(the Bodhisattva of. Compassion or Goddess of Mercy (Sanskrit Avalokitesvara)). However, in another book Wukong, Buddha had brought all the death myth creatures back and tried to teach them how to be good creatures and stop eating people. I dun remember the details but I think the part he was whipping the asses of the hordes or enemies on the clouds was part of the story where he went to make a mess in the Heaven Courts. Obviously he would be banished and held under the mountain by the Goddess of Mercy.

Wukong uses those al the time. in terms of combat Wukong barely lost in a fight. he beat opponents from underworld demons to Gods of Heaven. he was captured once but he escaped while he became stronger and got some new abilities, and only lost from Buddha. in Dragon Ball, Buddha is Zeno. Goku in Dragon Ball has lost almost from every main villain besides Frieza and Buu that he beat with help. Goku got wounded by a gun bullet while Wukong can't be damaged by weapons that ignore durability. when these weapons touch his body they break. the big fight in the end in this gameplay is the battle of Wukong vs Heaven. Wukong single-handedly defeated the entire army of Heaven made of 100,000 Gods, and the embodiments of the 28 constellations. Son Goku of Dragon Ball will never be as badass as Wukong.

I want to explain why there are two Wukong after killing the boss，the player controled the six-eared macaque（maybe he is not really wukong，Chinese name：六耳猕猴 )and the monkey that prevents the player from killing the boss，he is really Wu kong . I dunno - maybe it’s easier to be critical of the voice acting when i know the language. Perhaps Japanese players feel the same for the voice acting in sekiro.... who knows. Here the voices just sound over-dramatic to me but everything else is phenomenal

In the original novel, especially in Chinese, the 72 kinds of transformation do not mean that he can become 72 kinds of creatures or become Things, and Wu Kong has 72 skills, and transformation is just one of these 72 skills. to some who don't know, Son WuKong is a character from a Chinese myth novel 400 years ago called Journey to the West. In the myth, some of his powers include riding clouds, transforming (72 forms), that magical staff he wields can lengthen and shorten, he also hides it in his ears when it's tiny. When he tears off strands of his hair, each strand can turn into a clone of himself. Oh, and let's not forget he can freeze people with words. that's all i remember for the moment. but he's pretty dope.

Why here is another WUKONG? Here I wanna add some background and true hidden stories about WUKONG.
1，The true and false Monkey King is a chapter of Journey to the West, because the disobedient Wukong had a conflict with Tang Seng and knocked him down. However, in the the book, it is said that fake Wukong was the one who defeated Tang Seng, and no one can tell who is the real and who is the fake. Their combat effectiveness is also the same, and they even have the same weapon-the golden hoop.
In the end, the Buddha distinguished the real Wukong and the real Wukong killed the fake Wukong.
But here are 2 main explanations or real stories the book didnot tell.
First, The real Wukong was killed, and the fake Wukong continued to travel west. I will explain why there are such stories later.

there is only one Wukong in the whole story, but Wukong himself has contradictions. It is his own submissive side that killed his own rebellious side.
Now, I will explain why have such explanations and what WUKONG means for Chinese people.

His dream is to lead his monkeys to live happily in Huaguo mountain and hope to live forever, so he went to hell and tore up the book of life and death which means They can live forever. But this was not allowed by Gods, so he fought with one hundred thousand heavenly soldiers (this is the battle scene at the end of this video), and he was arrested. At last, he began his journey to the west. It is hard to tell the whole story here.
But the birth of Wukong represents a lawless person who resists the gods and pursues absolute freedom. He does not harm others, but he is still controlled and restricted by the gods.
He wants to break all the rules and restrictions on him. So, here is why Budda and gods wanna kill the true WUKONG, because they represent the rules and restrictions.
Some people say that this book is a story of a child growing up and becoming a man. This is a good ending.

The little old man(which btw is the lord of soil of that particular area) said "像" twice(5:43) which means the protagonist has the likeness/resemblance of somebody. The wolf leader(the one that wields a double sword that is on fire) said "huh? Another monkey?"(3:39). According to the lore(journey to the west), there are 4 monkeys that are as strong as the monkey king Wu Kong. Also, the last scene where the monkey wielding the iconic monkey king staff (the marking that lights up one by one is the name of that iconic staff "如意金箍棒") and armor stop the protagonist from killing that beast, that one may actually be the real monkey king. So the protagonist is most likely one of the 4 monkeys or maybe he is one of the clones of the true monkey king. But that's just a guess.

I noticed some of you may get confused about plot and characters in this video. I’m gonna explain them to you. Wu kong, also called the Monkey King, is the protagonist in a Chinese literature classic, The Journey to the West. For us Chinese who do not have Marvel or other cartoons, he is like Captain American for Americans. You may do not understand who the monkey with a golden armor appeared when the protagonist is going to kill the big dog is. The golden inscription in his stick written in a traditional style of calligraphy(篆) says golden cudgel (如意金箍棒). It shows that this golden monkey is monkey king, because golden cudgel is monkey king’s exclusive weapon. After that, there comes a lot of scenarios. Some of them come from the journey to west; some come from Havoc in Heaven. This happens before the journey to west. After the Jade Emperor (the supreme deity of Chinese folk legend), decieved Wu kong twice, Wu kong granted himself the Great Sage Equaling Heaven and defeated a hundred thousand soldiers and generals from Heaven. The scene when Wu kong is fighting on the cloud is this story.
Here is another guess about the plot. The storyteller at the beginning looks like a monkey. The ribbon in his clothes is floating, which suggests that he may be a Buddha. In the journey to west, Wu kong with his master and two junior fellow apprentices is going to the west to get Buddhist scriptures. After he got them, he was granted Buddha of Victorious Strife. So the old storyteller may be Buddha of Victorious Strife. According to legend, people will have different incarnates when they achieved certain state in practicing Buddhism or Taoism. The protagonist, the golden monkey, the old storyteller may be different incarnates of Wu kong. To achieve a higher level, he must kill all his incarnates.

So this Monk（name Tang xuanzang, people call him monk Tang）become wukong's teacher, teach him Buddhism and how to control himself. in this trip, they find another 2 people (a pig-Bajie and another monk-Shaseng), they was one of the god (or angel), but they make mistake, so God punish them to go to earth, learn Buddhism from monk Tang, and protect him to go to the west. They took over 17 years, walk over 54000km（about 34000 mile ），go trough 81 different tribulations, see different Country, good or bad people, different god or monsters, finnally arrive at the destination. Found Buddha Tathagata , found the scripture, and all of them became Buddha. then go back to China(they can fly now cause they are Buddha),and teach people the scripture and the truth. thats the whole story of Journey to the west.

Dude you can't imagine how excited when i was watching this, you have a tons of super heroes like Super Man, Spider Man, but for hundreds of years, all Chinese kids we only have one and we only want one single super hero and his name is Sun WuKong.
I'm loving the game so far. It's kinda similar to Ghost of Tshushima but this game is on another level. We never ask for this kind of game like your character is wu kong/monkey but we are surprise that we getting this kind of game and it's so good. The werewolf boss part, it's only half a chapter in the game. The same chapter was played live on PC by some Chinese media team, and they confirmed the actual game is actually better than what you are seeing here. Some basic things about Wu Kong (i.e. Sun Wukong, aka Monkey King) to help you understand some of the actions and things you see in the clip:
- Wu Kong was 'born' from The rock. (And the rock has background story where it comes from in
the Chinese mythology universe)
- Wu Kong went to learn how to be immortal for his fellow monkeys (eventually only learnt Kung Fu and skills/magic) from a 'god'. He can change into 72 forms of things/animals and can ride 'Jin Dou Cloud' (i.e. fly)
- He has learnt from his master (the god I mentioned above) that he can turn his hair/fur into clones of himself to fight the enemies;
- After he learnt his skills, he went back to his 'home town' and stayed with his fellow monkeys (they are normal monkeys).
- He could not find a suitable weapon for a while. Later he got (snatched) his weapon 'Ru Yi JIn Gu Bang' (the staff) from one of the Dragon King's palace (his friends told him that dragon king has got a large collection of weapons). The staff can become
bigger than skyscraper (or infinity big) or as small as a needle. To carry it easily, Wu Kong keep it in his ear. This is why you see he take it out and put it into the 'side of his head'. (This staff is not just a staff it has background story where it comes from)
- He also removed his own name from the 'Life and Death Registry Book' when he was taken to the underworld according to the fate recorded in this book.
- He has a famous battle with gods and their armies (because what his has done and the heaven failed to 'convert' him, they didn't treat him fair enough) and almost defeat all of them until Buddha take him down.
- After he was trapped under a mountain for 500 years (he becomes almost immortal be cause he has eaten several magical/heavenly food and
medicines during the battle with heaven), he was released to protect the monk Tang San Zang to go to the West (India) to get/learn the Buddhist scrolls back to ancient China. During this journey, He and his master San Zang has to overcome 81 challenges before they successfully return the ancient capital of China.
- Because the monsters on the route heard the rumour that anyone who has eaten Wu Kong's master Tang San Zang will be become immortal, so every monster tried to capture Tang San Zang when he pass their territory. And Wu Kong and two other followers of Tang San Zang have to defeat all the monsters during the journey.
- After they meet the Buddha and get the scrolls, Wu Kong was promoted to one of the buddha. (The old monk in the clip should be in this form)

Wukong always store his weapon in his ear, based on the story, that's why he put the fire staff in there at 4:53 and pull out his Golden staff from the same place at 11:17
Chinese myth system is completely different and attractive, I think if this game can be successful, then they may make other Chinese myth story, wukong is very powerful and popular hero, but he is only one of many hero and characters. There are lots of wonderful stories we can tell. Even they only make wukong game, at least they can tell around 81 stories, so if they want, they can make many DLC and players can play more than 1000 hours.

The monkey with the armor on with a golden staff right after you see after the "Wukong" beats the giant wolf, that is the real Monkey King.
It's all explained in the novel. Buddha said: "There are 4 legendary monkeys in this world. They are no ordinary creatures. They are their own beings themselves."
Also, in the novel stated, the fake Monkey King (who's called 六耳猕猴) is as strong as Wukong, if not just smarter.
In one of the chapters, Wukong was very troubled for a long time since he saw this other monkey, so he went to Buddha's place to help him identify the fake one.
Right after Buddha pointed out the fake Wukong, the real Monkey King smashed the fake one in the head until it turned into a pool of blood.

I'm Chinese, I'm pretty much know about Journey to the West and Sun Wukong.
Sun Wukong was born from the magic stone that resides Mountain of Flowers and Fruit. After his birth, he became the Monkey King. His ability can transform into 72 different animals and objects. Each of his hairs have transformative powers, and he can magically manipulate wind, water and fire as well. Wukong also search his suitable weapon until he acquired the Golden-banded staff, the stabilizer of the Four Seas and a treasure of Ao Guang, the dragon-king of the Eastern Seas. The Monkey King is the only creature strong enough to wield the staff-like weapon and there is an instant affinity between them. The Golden-banded staff can change its size, elongate, fly and attack opponents according to its master's will. It weighs 13,500 jīn or 7960 kg. When not wielding the weapon, the Monkey King shrinks it down to the size of a sewing needle and stores it in his ear. At first the Jade Emperor of the heaven was not interested in him, but he later invited him to the heaven where Wukong became 'Protector of the Horses', or stableman, which is the lowest ranking job in heaven. When Wukong discovered this, he was not happy and rebelled against the heaven, until the Buddha came who imprisoned Wukong under a mountain. 500 years later, a Buddhist monk, Tang Sanzang, or Tang Seng, released Wukong who became his disciple. Throughout the journey to India, they encountered humanoid demons who tried eat Tang Seng's flesh, believing by eating it, they would become immortal, so Wukong was also tasked to protect him along with two other disciples, Zhu Bajie and Sha Wujing.
The left corner you have four skills, copy, freeze the time, defense, and the other one I am not sure. but that is Wu Kong's power(maybe you can change different skills like god of war because Wu Kong has much more power).
The right corner has two traditional Chinese Words, which means Monkey and Wolf. According to the myth, WuKong has 72 different transforms. when the character killed the first boss, the word of Wolf appeared in the right corner. I guess they want to create a system that you can transform into that small boss once you defeat it, if they are crazy enough, you can have 72 weapons and attack style.
For the story, I guess the whole story will be a journey of finding the truth. when the character was trying to kill that boss, you saw there is another monkey stopped him. connected to the beginning(that bold, old monkey), here are some really interesting questions: is Wukong lost his memory then meet his own illusion? was Wukong replaced and the fake Wu Kong found him? Or the character is just a copy of the real one? I believe that the story will be so insane !!
What is more, a slight correction, although this game is largely based on the original journey to the west, the setting actually comes from another book called Wukong(I really don't know the official translation).here is my proof，the boss in the demo called 灵虚子(I personally called it Void immortal, something like that). it's also an immortal myth creature that was originally a wolf. In the journey to the west, it was killed by Wu Kong at the very beginning of the journey(it is obvious cause they show up in the same location called 观音禅院：the temple of Guanyin(the Bodhisattva of. Compassion or Goddess of Mercy (Sanskrit Avalokitesvara)).
However, in another book Wukong, Buddha had brought all the death myth creatures back and tried to teach them how to be good creatures and stop eating people. Of course, this plan did not work and Buddha and his followers got killed. that is the reason why the temple in the demo is ruined and there are human bones on the ground.
For the bonus animation, You saw that four giants in the end. that is Vaiśravaṇa, Virūḍhaka, Dhṛtarāṣṭra, and Virūpākṣa, the 4 servants of Buddha. they would meet Wukong almost at the end of the journey. they are very, very, very tall, but WuKong can change to a giant too !! So maybe Wukong will fight them by transforming himself as a giant. In the end, you can see a dragon, maybe that is one of Wu kong journey partners. And yes, you can expect to fight on the cloud with soldiers from heaven because Wu Kong has done the same thing in the first few chapters.
Some players share their feedback on Weibo(Chinese tweeter). based on what I saw, I guess the animation and actions are finished. But they want to extend more( I think they have enough money because they are hiring people not begging for more money like many new studios). The team has a lot of experience and managed by a genius. I am not worried about their ability, but if they want to release this game in two years, I think they need to triple their members. otherwise, I guess they will release part of their game and sell the rest via DLC.

I dun remember the details but I think the part he was whipping the asses of the hordes or enemies on the clouds was part of the story where he went to make a mess in the Heaven Courts. Obviously he would be banished and held under the mountain by the Goddess of Mercy.

wrong. Son Goku of Dragon Ball is loosely based of Wukong. do you remember when was the last time he used the staff and the cloud? Wukong uses those al the time.
in terms of combat Wukong barely lost in a fight. he beat opponents from underworld demons to Gods of Heaven. he was captured once but he escaped while he became stronger and got some new abilities, and only lost from Buddha. in Dragon Ball, Buddha is Zeno. Goku in Dragon Ball has lost almost from every main villain besides Frieza and Buu that he beat with help. Goku got wounded by a gun bullet while Wukong can't be damaged by weapons that ignore durability. when these weapons touch his body they break. the big fight in the end in this gameplay is the battle of Wukong vs Heaven. Wukong single-handedly defeated the entire army of Heaven made of 100,000 Gods, and the embodiments of the 28 constellations. Son Goku of Dragon Ball will never be as badass as Wukong.

I want to explain why there are two Wukong after killing the boss，the player controled the six-eared macaque（maybe he is not really wukong，Chinese name：六耳猕猴 )and the monkey that prevents the player from killing the boss，he is really Wu kong . Because his cudgel bears the words "Ruyi Hoop(如意金箍棒)"like you saw flash of golden light Chinese character. Only the real Wukong has golden cudgel . The fight on the cloud is due to the legend that it caused havoc in heaven. I just using my bad English to explain what happyed in this video,I hope u can understand what i said.
Well considering this is black myth, in the start the monk said the real him was killed during the journey, so the monkey king might be fake.
I think the Golden Wukong will be the fight in Heaven because he is the most strong boss, which means a Replication of himself but stronger.

Love your enthusiasm for this game and the lore behind it. The art direction and character models are fantastic. The Chinese voice acting is pretty bad though. If the final product looks half as good I am sold. Also, His name is Wu-Kun, not Wu-Kong.

Nyarlathotep the Crawling Chaos it’s spelled wukong but pronounced wu “kun”. Here he pronounced it wu-“Kong” as in King Kong. I dunno - maybe it’s easier to be critical of the voice acting when i know the language. Perhaps Japanese players feel the same for the voice acting in sekiro.... who knows. Here the voices just sound over-dramatic to me but everything else is phenomenal
