    I cannot tell you what this video did for me. I am 68 years old and this was 'my' machine as my girls grew up and I LOVED it so much. In a moment I deeply regret, I gave it to a neighbor and when I saw this I almost cried. I would love to have another one if I ever run into one in decent shape, but thank you for a moment in time.

      Me too! I learned to sew on this machine in the 60’s, then a few years ago found one in a 2nd hand store for next to nothing. I took it directly to a sew machine repair shop for an overhaul, it’s marvellous. Like they say, they don’t make ‘em like this any more.

    I have had a lot of machines in my 69 years but without question the Singer Touch & Sew is by far the BEST machine I ever had. I will not let ANYONE touch it but me. It is all metal, heavy but strong. AND YES I do sew very fast. Can't go wrong with this machine. I love the bobbin

    I just bought this machine in the cabinet at Goodwill and was thrilled to find this video. So much information, thank you. I will look around ebay for some cams. The cabinet setup was so cool. Instead of a foot pedal on the floor it is mounted in the front of the cabinet with a knee lever. I will give it a good oiling and treat it right and it should last 60 some years, too bad I won't. :)

      The internet and charity thrift shops will be the on;u source for cams since some are no longer available direct from Singer.

    Thank you so much!! You did a great job with explanation and visuals..took me two days to find this video/ work on the bobbin..but within 15 minutes of your video the sewing machine is up and running again!! Thanks so much!!

    Thank you for the video. Just bought sewing machine and almost didn't purchase until I read the heart warming comments about this machine from those who provided comments on your video. Much appreciated and will give me a good start to use. Owner said the sewing machine peddle was up in the cabinet so through the comments I discovered it was designed that way to push peddle from the knee. Thanks so much, I will cherish using this machine with my granddaughter.

    You do not need to remove throat plate or bobbin case just to remove the bobbin. I've sewn on my 600E since purchased in 1964 as a new machine. It so much simpler to use than you have indicted.

      JoySun Gladden lucky duck. I just won one at auction not in a cabinet but I already have a singer cabinet for this. I can't wait to get mine too. I wanted it because it's a workhorse that also does a chainstitch. Good luck.

    These are fantastic machines. It has steel gears and is very responsive. I bought mine in 1965 and have put many miles on it. I took it in to a shop for servicing about a year ago. If you have one, you are lucky and it would probably be well worth it to have it serviced.

      LuvCrochet1 i have one but having problems. the Stitch bunches up on the bottom side any clues

    • @LuvCrochet1
      @LuvCrochet1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That usually means a problem with the tension; probably not enough tension. Try tightening the tension a bit. Some years ago, my machine began to bunch stitches. I was unable to adjust the tension. The tension dial needed to be adjusted at a shop. If your machine does not respond to you adjusting the tension, you may need further help from a pro. Good luck to you.

    • @1953childstar
      @1953childstar 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have a newer model with plastic gears which are cracking and breaking...
      This will throw the timing off and eventually not sew at all..

    • @tompahdea5799
      @tompahdea5799 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Slipping? what do you mean. Popping out of the socket. If so it may be a situation that it needs to be adhusted for a better fit or the part is damaged causing the trouble. Why it would be hitting the bobbin is a strange. It may just be out of timing and what you think is hitting the bobbin is actually hitting the hook that has to spin round to catch the thread to make the stitch complete. If the hook is not in the proper position when the needle goes down then it will hit the hook and be unable to complete the stitch.

    what causes the humming noise that prevents the needle to go down ?

    • @pyrohhs12
      @pyrohhs12 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's just the electric motor humming, you're not giving it enough "oomph" on the foot pedal to get it to start spinning. Kind of like using a handheld drill, if you squeeze the trigger only part way it whines before actually turning.

    • @tompahdea5799
      @tompahdea5799 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That means that there is not enough power to push the needle down. That is causing stress on the machine that can effect the gears etc. It may be a situation as simple as it needs oiling or cleaning out.

    Hello, I'm a new mom and a friend has one of these sewing machines that shes willing to let me have. I want to pick up sewing as a hobby, but would ya'll reccomend this in an apartment complex? Could my neighbors downstairs hear it if I use it?

    • @Poopiepies

      As long as you keep is properly oiled, it wont be crazy loud especially if you don’t floor the foot pedal lol. It’s definitely quieter than my vacuum is. The manual is easy to find on google and will tell you what parts to oil.

      The very top of the stitch length selector knob is for reverse

    • @tompahdea5799
      @tompahdea5799 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The knob that sets the stitch length has to move loosened and put all the way up to the top to reverse stitch.

    • @LuvCrochet1
      @LuvCrochet1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +graciela mendoza This is perfect for beginners. I hope that your machine has the original owner's manual, because it helps to go through the functions of the machine and how to lube the gears and oil it properly, as it sews much more smoothly when well maintained. If it needs service, I highly recommend it. As far as beginning sewing, there are many "easy sew" patterns. You can also make something simple; we made aprons in high school as our first project. There are probably instruction books or basic classes at your local hobby stores. Once you learn how to sew you won't forget how and as you go along, you will build on your knowledge. I wish you much luck and success.

    • @timemachine63

    • @tompahdea5799
      @tompahdea5799 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use whatever plate you are using as all the needle has to do is go down into the machine so it does not matter of it is the straight or the zig zag stitch. But the setting have to be correctly set to wind bobbin.

    • @tompahdea5799
      @tompahdea5799 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need to go online and search for a free downloadable copy of the owners manual for this model. There is a cam for the basting stitch that the settings are explained in the manual. There should be a basting stitch in the machine that you set by the dials in the face of the machine. That also should be explained in the manual.
