  • A quick walk-through of the MCT-73 Morse Code Trainer. Available at sparkgaplabs.com.
Learn to send and receive Morse code anywhere with the MCT-73 Morse code trainer! Using the time-tested Koch/Farnsworth methods, the MCT-73 will efficiently walk you through the process of learning Morse code.
It's small (4¾" x 3¾" x 1½") and housed in a beautiful aluminum alloy case. With its onboard speaker and included earphones, you'll be able to easily practice anywhere. Supply your own paddles or straight key and you'll be able to learn how to send Morse code too. An integrated red LED lamp gives visual feedback as you send and receive code as well. Because the MCT-73 uses a dedicated microcontroller, you'll be able to learn Morse code in a virtually lag-free environment unlike most web, computer, and smartphone training apps.
The MCT-73 is a microcontroller-based kit that includes a custom circuit board, faceplate, enclosure, earphones, and all parts needed to assemble the kit. A keyer is not included.
This is an intermediate level kit and requires basic soldering skills. It is designed to be built with a minimum of fuss. Built from all through-hole parts and using a custom-designed circuit board to give a little breathing room between components, it's meant to keep assembly as easy as possible.
Assembly requires (not included) a soldering iron, solder, wire cutters, wire strippers, a small Phillips screwdriver, and a 9 volt battery.
We also periodically offer hand-built, completely assembled MCT-73s.

Saw it there as well. Ordered a kit. Looking forward to the build and practical use! Will there be software updates as more hams try it out and provide feedback?

@@rcbrush99 Hi! Currently there is no easy way for end-users to flash their own firmware, but maybe I can offer an upgraded ROM with new software in the future?!

👍Love it, I just might buy one. Looks like a good Morse Code trainer. I am in the process of learning. Wish I had the skills to put one together. Thank you for sharing.

SparkGap Labs shipped this unit quickly and it took a little over 2 hours to assemble. There is a small Sparkgap Labs card that has the website listed where you can see the assembly and user guides. I printed a copy to use during the build, but you could easily read it directly on a laptop, iPad, or phone. The unit works perfectly, and I am excited now to do the harder work of re-learning the code. I selected this unit because it enables you to both copy code that is sent, as well as send code that the unit checks for accuracy. For awareness, you will need to supply the key and it uses a 3.5mm plug. Jeff Dauphinee, AD4F, Charlotte, NC.

Hi Jeff, thanks for the comment. I'm glad to hear it all went smoothly and it's working well for you. Luckily your order made it into the first batch of orders as the pileup of orders after Dave Casler reviewed it was more than I was stocked for. For anyone wondering, I have placed a massive parts order and back ordered units will be shipping the week of 6/18. I'll be offering more assembled units shortly after that.

Super! I think it will help me a bunch. Think I'll go for the kit. Love that it has a headphone jack. I have CW Morse's Scout CPO and two of the CW Morse keys. Now I need the feedback this offers.

I'm new to Morse code. I am looking for a practice unit. How does this compare to the morserino-32 ? Is there things it does or doesn't do? I see you have much better display

      @RT-xj3tr,
I don't know how this compares to the one you refer to, however, I bought and built the MCT-73, it was simple to build and I've found it really easy to use.
I've been a Ham for about 25 years and I'd pretty much ignored morse code after the original code test I did to get my ticket.
This unit is the way to go though, if you enjoy building things (like all hams do), get one of these units and a keyer unit, you won't be disappointed.
In the short time I've been using it, morse code has become fun again.
      73,
      Mike.
