- X Games takes a look back at the most dominant athletes in summer X Games history. Even before landing the first-ever 900 in 1999, Tony Hawk was dominating competitions. As a seasoned X Games competitor, he doesn't seem to have any problem maintaining his spot in the limelight. A major icon, even outside of the industry, Tony is skateboarding's mainstream ambassador. He's also got 16 total medals to his name at X Games.

People didn't realize that Tony had already been trying the 900 for a decade before that night. Many of us youngsters thought he was just trying it that night. I'll never forget that night for the rest of my life. It was like 11 pm jersey and i had to go to sleep. But my parents let me stay up and watch it... soooooo friggen cool

@@CALIGS It's not sad. Some peoples passions are more important than their families. That doesn't mean they'd choose one over the other, but he definitely loves skateboarding more than anything. It's his driving passion in life....
@@hellcatdave1 Tony Hawk obviously didn't mean including the birth of children or his marriage, he would 99% most likely not put skateboarding before them, regardless of his love for the sport.
No two ways about it, it would be sad - if your hobby or career is more important than somebody you went out of your way to marry, or create, your heart is seriously in the wrong place and you are likely not giving them the attention a parent or husband should be affording.
Goes for the other parties as well, a healthy family wouldn't ever impede on a passion or career without legitimate reason.
Whenever I watch it, I get goosebumps. If it wasn't for Tony Hawk, I wouldn't know what X-Games is.

This was in 1999 and Riley was born in 1992, so that's actually Spencer Hawk takin' the abuse lol.
Also in his video where he lands his last 900 at 48, Spencer is with him, and he comments that Spencer was there when he did his first and last 900.

If you watched this live like I did, you couldn’t believe the cameras were staying with it. That was something they never did. It just unfolded the way it did and it was magical.
This and pastranas double backflip. My favorite x games moments. Nothing compares.

Great video but you’ll never be able to convey the sheer electricity of him trying that trick over and over.. the energy was truly palpable, you could see it in his eyes that night.. he was getting carried off that ramp either way.. stretcher or outstretched arms.. thankfully for him and skateboarding it was the latter. 🤙

This is a awesome documentary and much respect to Tony Hawks Legacy. Although up until 2000 X Games. The park events were actually called Street Contests. The only year that was missing from Street Contests was in 2000 X Games beginnin gthe Park Contests at San Francisco. They were promoting to build allot of Skateparks to be built across America that year before returning to Street Contest in 2001 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania X Games.

There's a kid that landed an 1120 or 1180 but here's the thing.. Size matters when rotating at such a pace. The smaller the less gravity you have resisting those rotations.

Hudson_Riffs nah man.....no one person can ever be the best bc there's so many different types, styles and aspects of skaten. Mullen is good don't get me wrong but you would never catch Mullen kick flippin a 15 stair or doing a massive handrail. Just like you'd never see Andrew Reynolds doing what Rodney does. Mullen is just the best at his type of skating.

Many people say "What about your wife or kid." Marriage and a Baby are very special moments, ones you'll never forget, however they don't have to/most likely aren't your greatest moment in your life and don't have to be. When you put a decade of your life towards one thing and fail hundreds/thousands of times and finally succeed in front of millions of people with that kind of support from the other skaters.... 1000000x times better than marriage or a baby.

Even a couple years past the 900, people still didn’t understand how much more difficult street is than Half Pipe. The general public is amazed cause they fly high in the air, but vert is mostly acrobatic.. there’s 11yr. old doing 900’s now ! At that time, it was EPIC though, I’ll never forget that X-Games
