People didn't realize that Tony had already been trying the 900 for a decade before that night. Many of us youngsters thought he was just trying it that night. I'll never forget that night for the rest of my life. It was like 11 pm jersey and i had to go to sleep. But my parents let me stay up and watch it... soooooo friggen cool
@@CALIGS It's not sad. Some peoples passions are more important than their families. That doesn't mean they'd choose one over the other, but he definitely loves skateboarding more than anything. It's his driving passion in life....
@@hellcatdave1 Tony Hawk obviously didn't mean including the birth of children or his marriage, he would 99% most likely not put skateboarding before them, regardless of his love for the sport. No two ways about it, it would be sad - if your hobby or career is more important than somebody you went out of your way to marry, or create, your heart is seriously in the wrong place and you are likely not giving them the attention a parent or husband should be affording. Goes for the other parties as well, a healthy family wouldn't ever impede on a passion or career without legitimate reason.

I can't stop laughing at little Riley's head swinging around hahaha 4:12 .... "this is the best day of my life,I swear to God" . even more than having Riley hahahaha
Just before he made it and the other skaters put their hands around tony, that’s literally what made him do it. The effects of belief and that below the surface conscious energy was placed in him to be able to play a huge part in him making it. If you know you know
He is the best pro skater of all time , performing a 900 is really insanely hard , you need timing , balance , and landing exactly where you should land , he defied the laws of physics
If you watched this live like I did, you couldn’t believe the cameras were staying with it. That was something they never did. It just unfolded the way it did and it was magical.
Great video but you’ll never be able to convey the sheer electricity of him trying that trick over and over.. the energy was truly palpable, you could see it in his eyes that night.. he was getting carried off that ramp either way.. stretcher or outstretched arms.. thankfully for him and skateboarding it was the latter. 🤙
Hudson_Riffs nah man.....no one person can ever be the best bc there's so many different types, styles and aspects of skaten. Mullen is good don't get me wrong but you would never catch Mullen kick flippin a 15 stair or doing a massive handrail. Just like you'd never see Andrew Reynolds doing what Rodney does. Mullen is just the best at his type of skating.
Many people say "What about your wife or kid." Marriage and a Baby are very special moments, ones you'll never forget, however they don't have to/most likely aren't your greatest moment in your life and don't have to be. When you put a decade of your life towards one thing and fail hundreds/thousands of times and finally succeed in front of millions of people with that kind of support from the other skaters.... 1000000x times better than marriage or a baby.
He swore soooo doing the 900 was better to him than having Riley Hawk lol he almost made his girl drop the baby. He was so hyped #greatmoment ... Radd™
@@misspretty8969 that's not riley that's one of his other sons, I think Spencer. Riley would have been like 5 or 6 here. In the video where Tony lands at 900 at age 48 he hugs spencer and says "he was he here for my first 900 and for my last."
There's a kid that landed an 1120 or 1180 but here's the thing.. Size matters when rotating at such a pace. The smaller the less gravity you have resisting those rotations.
Imo tho dave mirra is the most dominant. But I love both guys. I wish the x ganes would release there old events so we can relive those moments. Long live x games tho. God bless y'all
This is a awesome documentary and much respect to Tony Hawks Legacy. Although up until 2000 X Games. The park events were actually called Street Contests. The only year that was missing from Street Contests was in 2000 X Games beginnin gthe Park Contests at San Francisco. They were promoting to build allot of Skateparks to be built across America that year before returning to Street Contest in 2001 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania X Games.
First minute really shows well how the video editor learned a single new trick in after effects.

Seriously guys not every frame has to skip a million times, we get it x games is extreme
@TimStamper First time I saw this I had a huge hangover dude I puked because it flickered so bad 😂
it's like that Japanese cartoon, Battling Seizure Robots.
Wow, that was epic. The energy, the support from the other skaters & the fans. Epic.
I love that this man had a wife and a baby there and said this was the best night of his life lol, that's dedication 😂
Well, I'm sure he's talking about within his skating career lol
Lol he already had one other child before this one so it’s not a new interesting thing anymore 😂

This was in 1999 and Riley was born in 1992, so that's actually Spencer Hawk takin' the abuse lol.
Also in his video where he lands his last 900 at 48, Spencer is with him, and he comments that Spencer was there when he did his first and last 900.

And now 12 year olds are landing 1080’s.... This world is crazy!
G.O.A.T.
In one of Tony's old Feasters videos, he does a switch McTwist.

greatest skater alive.... no.
greatest skateboarder promoter ever .. yes
the greatest is and always will be Roney Mullen, EVEN tony admits it.
It's crazy that Tony was the first to do a 900 because he's so tall and that's considered a direct disadvantage when doing spin tricks on a skateboard
Oh he on x games mode

Ive watched a bright screen flash from red to blue for minutes on end and the beginning of this video was still more painful.
Tony Hawk n Rodney Mullen the goat
900 👑
Don't watch this if you're epileptic
Hawk is by far the GOAT but the Pappas version of the 900 story puts a bit of a damper on how great a moment that was.
I remember I was in middle School and I watch Tony hawk live pull off the first mctwist EVER I'm pretty sure he invented that.
Mike McGill invented the McTwist but Tony essentially made it famous.

Tony hawk was a great skater of his time but so was bob burnquist, bucky lasek etc
Gas Pappas was trying and was gonna do it at the best trick but they wouldn’t allow him to enter .I think it should went tony anyway the man a legend
What’s with the glitchy effects, so unnecessary and ruins the highlights
king of air

Bob Burnquist the GOAT!
Now we see skaters doing 1080's and 1260's, absolutely ridiculous
