It's kind of ironic how he freed himself from mind control by doing everything that some unknown voice told him to do.
I realised that too. You have been listening to orders all your life and to stop that you have to listen to orders.
Also, when the narrator said 'Stanley won't take orders from anyone again' or something like that, after a second the voice just gave him an order xD

Stanley read this comment and was completely unmoved by its contents. In fact, he was beginning to feel as though he was wasting his time still reading it. As he continued reading, he thought of how the comment's attempt to read his mind and be witty was simply pathetic. Perhaps he would dislike it, or make a mean reply. But then Stanley realized that the comment was intended to waste his time.

Ironic that Stanley wants to be free, happy and not get controlled anymore. But the narrator is telling him what to do, suggesting which choices to make, and at the end the narrator is even telling him how he is feeling. Even more, he is being controlled by the character, in a way, anything that happened to Stanley before the game was his choice.
Plot twist: The narrator IS stanley

I find it funny how the narrator states how Stanley wanted to not be controlled, but in reality, the player was being controlled by the narrator.
Thats the parable, you are Stanley, and you allow your self to control without the narrator's instructions.
You push the buttons to make stanley move. The narrator tells you what to do, or what buttons to press.

I have a theory... what if Stanley appeared at his job but he soon saw no one....because today they did not have work....but he was never told...because he was told...but never listened to raptured in his work...he went home to his apartment and from so much shock he fell into a coma from shock.....Everytime he finished an ending....another year pasted by.... eighteen endings.....all years....when eh press quit...he was done with all endings......he died....he ended his own life...because she thought he was done with this so called "game" or so he thought...

This game has a deep meaning to it. At lest, this ending does. But none can surpass the Broom Closet Ending.

The closest thing to portal in this game is when the narrator says 'lets play a better game.' And takes you to Minecraft, and portal, even though there are no portals.
In portal, you are closed in one place, alone and with glados beeing the only voice you hear. Same here, I suppose just with the narrator replacing glados
This game runs on the same engine as Portal, the Source engine, also it features a huge abandoned facility. That's why it reminded my of Portal at least.
