@@AndrewBlacker-wr2ve I think that's also what helped him adopt her, because she'll need ongoing treatment+medication+special lifestyle for the rest of her life and that can get costly for most folks, so this man fits her needs best.

I know with proper treatment and certain dietary and lifestyle changes only then can Lupus be controlled in canines.

You have varying sensitivities that I've had to educate people about. The same way I had to learn when I knew nothing about the condition.

Of course you adopted her! How could you not?! Tears are falling as I watch this because she really needed help, and you gave it to her. And what a transformation! It must have so uncomfortable for her - itching, burning, but it was your perseverance that got her the specialist she needed to figure it out. After what the 2 of you have been through together, she would never have understood why you would have given her away. I’m so glad you kept her. ❤️

Doing fostering, you keep a bit of distance. I've done it, and there's dogs I miss that I adopted, but I got two wonderful dogs which I did keep. The purpose is to show them a good life and there is a lot of reward in that alone. The most troubled dogs, I had to work with for a long time, and as a result, those are the ones I kept. The ones that were fragile.
@@fuzzywzhe and that’s why I can’t foster. I wouldn’t know how to distance myself! I would become too emotionally attached to want to give them up. I truly admire people who do that - people who raise puppies for a year and then turn them over for police dog training, or guide dog training - I would go outta my mind!
@@deborahjeanne2141 people train police dogs, trainers get big money for them dogs. like Canine Drug Program dogs' cost on avg $15 to $60k. forget about military dogs detecting explosives probably over $100k

I have no words...one of the best rescues ever. Physical transformation was a wonderful thing 2 witness, but the bond between nova & ? was so uplifting 4 me. Makes my problems or worrying about already "spoiled" dogs I know not so important.

The blemish (scar) on Nova’s snout (or bridge of her nose) is a perfect reminder of where she’s been, what she’s endured and overcome, and the LOVE you’ve (John and Ruff Riders) invested to get her to this place of happiness! What a true LOVE story and a fantastic outcome! Thank you John and the Ruff Riders and Haven of the Heart!!!!!
From the apparent severity of her Lupus, I wouldn’t be surprised if that scar was from that… all that time that she’d been suffering from the condition but nobody knowing what was causing it… very *VERY* likely that she was scratching or aggressively pawing at that spot particularly often due to the scabbing and irritation
With that part finally known, the part that has me the most bothered was the complete lack of muscle development in her legs… it reeks of being caged up in a kennel almost the entire day every day for months or even years… it’s about the only thing I can think of that could cause it, but physical therapy/exercise finally took care of that too

John is an awesome person! The way he stepped up to help this precious dog in need gave me hope for mankind. Nova turned into this gorgeous girl who was just waiting under the surface of her misery. I didn't know that dogs could get lupus. You learn something new every day. I wish Nova the best life that she deserves.

I was crying with sadness and happiness that you found her. When i heard Lupus, i nearly fell off my chair. My sister had Lupus when it was totally unknown, than i started study it. 4 years ago my hubby fell sick with lupus which was really a shock for a man of 73 years. Nova is such a beautiful dog, inside & out. I didn't know a dog could get Lupus. Her disease looked excruciatingly painful that's why I'm happy that Nova has been successfully diagnosed and recovering very well. Plus, I'm glad Nova got adopted by a loving dad. ❤❤❤

There are rescues…and then there are RESCUES! This has touched my heart beyond words. I worked at a rural humane society many decades ago. Have seen, fwatched & heard of so many sad & awful stories (& of course they all are 🥺). Something about this gal & her “savior” that has squeezed my heartstrings in the biggest way. I’m soon to be 80… you think you’ve seen it all. What in Holy Heaven’s name could cause a human being to allow a little innocent pup to be this neglected 💔. My prayer is that people like that are dealt with severely here on earth…and there, in the hereafter…❤️🔥

I’m so tired of the stories where it appears as though the animal and the person have bonded, and they’ve healed the animal, and then the next thing you know - “…we knew Bella was ready to find a forever home” or something - uhhm… you mean your home wasn’t it? Oh, it’s a rescuer sharing their story. Well that’s kinda bittersweet. Then the animal has to be heartbroken AGAIN in their life, you know? Even if they do end up finding a loving home, it appears initially as though the rescuers are the loving home. I guess not… So yeah, props to this guy for rescuing and adopting.
@@erikm8372 that's why I could never be a foster. I'd fall in love with them and then before you know it I'd have too many pups lol! I follow a lot of rescues and they claim they foster so they make room for more in need. No way I'm just too soft hearted when it comes to dogs. I don't think I could ever volunteer to walk them & cleanup,I'd want to take them all home with me!

Could tell it was an emotional journey for both of you. The vet used to tell me dogs live for their owners. Love the happy ending and that you adopted her. For a moment i thought she was going back to a shelter. Truly a great video that teaches us that love and compassion can be miraculous.😊😊
