I was fortunate to be the Construction Manager working for HKS with Victor on the GTE HQ. As a young architect Victor could be difficult at times but in the end what the team produced as a finished project was memorable and is the highlight of my career. I remember he would call me to discuss an issue and he always greeted himself as " Doug you favorite architect here".. and I would reply "is that you Mies?" we always chuckled.

I worked with Victor at HT/HKS in the early 80's in Dallas. We produced 85 large scale design office projects over 4 years. He was very interesting to work with and I would buy him large color crayolas and chalks which he would lock himself in his office or the conference room and make an incredible 8' x 15' rendering of the concept of the building. The purity of his concept was a real learning experience, and often he would make a shape he would call "the hand of God" not to be calculated but replicated and not changed. Once we laid out 4 curved office buildings and a round hotel, but it was composed in such a way it resembled an abstract Picasso-esque Madona. He was always a purist driven by form. Great guy and Architect.

I was so fortunate and, especially honored to have had Victor Lundy for my professor my last year studying Environmental Design at the University of Houston. Victor, as he preferred to be called, showed us a different way to look and see the relationship space, form and light- I will never forget what he would tell us: "For God's sake people, design something worth building!" Something I have lived by for the rest of my life! Victor is among the best artist, architect, photographer, actually, a genius of our time! Thank you for posting this wonderful video!
