I fell in love with Lisa Hannigan after this performance. It's not just her voice (which is stunning in itself) but the way she seems to feel the music as she sings. I suppose the best word for it might be "angelic"?
Lisa is an artist that is very similar to Damien. They both put their souls into their craft. That's why they appeal to us. When Lisa sings, the audience is totally mesmerized
The perpetual refusal to give her the credit she so obviously deserved is presumably a factor. She’s stunning, and is never referenced in any of these videos, even by the hosts and lighting engineers
This song brings tears to my eyes. THIS performance makes me weep openly... As long as there's such beauty as this in the world, I will never close my heart by refusing to forgive or giving in to the temptation of "having serious trust issues". PTSD is a bitch. People are cruel and callous and horrible, unspeakable shit happens. But when I hear this, I feel alive, I remember loving, I remember leaving without considering how devastated the other person was, I remember my father playing his guitar and teaching me to sing as a child and I remember him standing me up three times for the dinner I'd wanted so badly to take him out to for his 63rd birthday. I remember my brother making me annotated mix CDs when I was in rehab and I remember him stealing $500 from me later as he struggled with the same demons. Even if they won't ever sing together again, this performance exists. Life is so short. Shut yourself off from other people, and 9 times out of 10 you've saved yourself from betrayal, heartbreak, violation, abuse, devastation. But that 10th time? You may well have shut out the person who sees how magnificent and precious you are. Everyone's been a really big asshole at some point in their lives to another person - Seriously, can you say for sure that you've NEVER left someone feeling so empty, lost, rejected, ashamed or feeling so terminally alone that they couldn't even find the tears to cry or the voice to tell you? Pain is subjective, you may not see it, but I promise you have devastated someone. As someone has devastated you. Don't shut everyone out. Every time your heart breaks, it's just another wall coming down, another chamber opening in an infinite and exquisite essential facet of your humanity. And your capacity to love is as boundless as your capacity to forgive. It matters not whether the person you love loves you back, just as your genuine forgiveness of the person who did a Mexican Hat Dance on the very core of your heart has absolutely fucking nothing to do with them. You can love and forgive whomever you want. You don't need permission. Or approval. Recognition... If you think you do, then look inside your heart and open it wider. Love is the ultimate selfishness and forgiveness the ultimate indulgence. Opportunity is everywhere.
M there must always be hope. I just feel like a ghost now of what my life was like when I gave all my love to someone, they left, but I refuse to let it beat me. Just keep going & be the best person that you can be.
This is brilliant. Sorry I'm 3 years late reading this. I'm a poet so maybe this is why I write. To send a message through time for someone who might need my words some day. Thank you for yours.
Just heard this song at the end of a movie called I Am David. Great movie and listening to this song brought me to tears at the end of this wonderful and sad movie that shows how there truly are evil people in this world but then good can triumph because there’s still a Light that shines in our darkness.
@Zusinna💕 I am here listening for the same reason. What a beautiful, haunting, and hope filled movie! I didn't break down until this song started. From Dee 💕
Best performance of this song ever imo.. loved it when I first heard it 10+ years ago on the JR show and keep coming back to hear it over and over... thank you.
The first time I saw her she was wearing teal tights and doc Martians and playing an Indian organ and then the voice came, I still didn't know her name but her vision stuck with me and still does when I recognized the voice I new it was that woman from back then, I finally had her name.., and love her work
Lisa is just unbelievable. It's such a shame they split up. Lisa's solo-stuff is not bad at all, but THIS... Cold Water is probably Damien's masterpiece.
Cannot understand why Mr Ross made no mention of Lisa - this is the earliest recording I've seen of her and what she gives to the performance may be brief but its effect is out of all proportion to the duration of the song; for me it was the feminine soul of the song, gentle though ultimately more penetrating than the masculine power of Damien.
Scott D You seem to have ignored the point of my comment. If art is not for attention why does it present itself on a stage - to be ignored? I know Lisa is a singer who loves to sing above all - and she'd do it for nothing if necessary, but that doesn't excuse Ross's ignorant omission of her name in this performance, which implies she is not significant enough to include.
Mike Keyes I think he didn't mention her because she was part of Damien's proyect at this point. She sang many songs on O and 9 but she was, at those years, part of Damien's band. O and 9 are Damien Rice's albums. It was not like a Damien feat. Lisa Hannigan. She started her solo career after they split, in 2007, or so.
+nachoamaral Exactly, plus if he mentioned Lisa he'd have to mention the whole band. As you say, it was Damien's project - he wrote all the lyrics and composed all the music off the album.
Lisa Hannigan barely or never got acknowledged when she was with Damien Rice's band although she practically sang co-lead vocals. Being let go from that band was probably the best thing that happened to her.
Strange paradox, Damien needs negative states to write his songs and Lisa leaving him has devastated him and made him a greater song writer and an unhappier person, and a better songster and a lonely soul and.......

ethereal.
Well, alrighty then..
Lord, pray to the Lord
I think it's 'hot'.
Lisa is an artist that is very similar to Damien. They both put their souls into their craft. That's why they appeal to us. When Lisa sings, the audience is totally mesmerized
In another life time Damien and Lisa stayed together, grew old together, made many beautiful babies not to mention songs.................
Perhaps if he wasn't an asshole to her.
And they weren't "accidental".
The perpetual refusal to give her the credit she so obviously deserved is presumably a factor. She’s stunning, and is never referenced in any of these videos, even by the hosts and lighting engineers
Lisa not introduced, none of my close circle of friends are awake of her existence. She is without doubt a one off a dream maker.

You are someone who should be listened to x
After all these years...this track is still on my playlist and never been skipped upon even once ... .... lisa still gives me chills !!!!!
That should be introducing Damien Rice and Lisa Hannigan
Yes, it is awful that Lisa is never introduced on any of these performances, nor does Damien correct any host who ignores her...
Spot on
Absolutely 💯
"And I can't let go of your hand" beautiful song, love this song.
💕 so beautiful
I can't help to be sad they don't work together anymore😞. Two angels of music.
Them splitting up was like reliving Simon and Garfunkel's split. God, I'm old. Both duos created perfect timeless harmony.

This is the song with the end of the movie. th-cam.com/video/8UHXi7PIXNE/w-d-xo.html
June 2021 listening to this kind of beautifuly made song.
That closing shot on Lisa, she looks like an angel and sounds as one as well...
the girl ....her voice is just amazing , like it can absorb my soul
i agree 💯.. good way to put it!
......and she wasn't even introduced 😢
Lisa Hannigan...wow! I mean wow!
They split up in 2007, I wish I'd seen them perform together live.
oh my word. Lisa Hannigan :-)
The perfect song, period, and extra perfect for Lost.
And all I've got is your sweet hand, sweet hand.
Still my favourite performance on Jonathan Ross of all time.... so many years later I still go back to this track on this talk show. Amazing vocals
this crowd was soooooooo lucky!
Beautiful - Ah yes this is where I first heard Lisa Hannigan, have only recently rediscovered her angelic voice ❤️
Why this man and Ben howard haven't made a masterpiece yet is a real shame
Best performance of this song ever imo.. loved it when I first heard it 10+ years ago on the JR show and keep coming back to hear it over and over... thank you.
From 2020 Still Love this song! 🧡
Forgot how stunning this performance was.
This is my favourite video on youtube
I hope this is still your fav video 7 years on, peace and love ❤
This and Blower's Daughter ( which also strongly features the sublime Lisa Hannigan ) are his masterpieces IMO. Sadly never saw them together live.
probably one of the best live performances in history.
time went by...still touching
Wow, I've never seen this performance before.
It's beautiful. Thanks for uploading
Hope you are still enjoying damiens beautiful work 15 years on ❤
Gives me chills everytime 🙏🏻
Lisa Hannigan. Just that Lisa Hannigan.
all his songs makes me want to cry for the rest of my life.
The first time I saw her she was wearing teal tights and doc Martians and playing an Indian organ and then the voice came, I still didn't know her name but her vision stuck with me and still does when I recognized the voice I new it was that woman from back then, I finally had her name.., and love her work
They were soooo good together…
Simple amazing music
Two Irish Geniuses.
This live performance is better than the album. By a long shot.
To jest tak piekne...|Dziekuję...Od pierwszych nut ....pamiętam to uczucie..,,kiedy dusza i serce muzyczne zniwolone..od piekna
Lisa is just unbelievable. It's such a shame they split up. Lisa's solo-stuff is not bad at all, but THIS... Cold Water is probably Damien's masterpiece.
12 years on and your words still ring true
Hope your winning in life ❤
Shows, all you need is a guitar and a Lisa
Damien Rice and Lisa Hannigan make history some kinda love story what do you reckon?
Just perfect.
Esta cancion es bonita la conoci viendo la pelicula I am david y ahora que la escucho me hace querer llorar y querer ver de nuevo esta pelicula.
This song is so melancholic.... be warned: put away your phone and don't listen to this when you're drunk.
That Should've Been Introduced As..
Mr Damien Rice & Lisa Hannigan
absorb my soul
One of the best duos ever. I'm a big fan. But can't help but wonder, why didn't she get mentioned in the introduction.
Many live performances introduced only him, not sure why he wouldn't insist she was mentioned too, ego perhaps?
This was the closing song (sung by them) in the incredible movie “I Am David”.
Damien Rice and Lisa Hannigan are like Leonard Cohen and Jennifer Warnes
DressedRunner undeniable magic between them. I hope they perform again for us
❤❤❤
Imagine this song was used in Titanic, the ending scene when they were in the water. Only if
chills
Pqp que lindo..
2024 this song is still the shit ❤
soul chemistry in action-thought it was myth!
Cold ,cold water ,surrounds me now
Lisa habille d'or toutes les chansons qu'elle reprend!
Fit the end credits of "Stay" so well
2022 👏🏻👏🏻

Jesse Pinkman???
and Lisa hannigan
Making me Cry is not Hall of Fame!!!!!
they will never sing together again. why?
Que bien por Jessy Pikman
She has a young Tori Amos quality to her voice
Meditar
Lisa sounds and looks delicious

I'd like to agree with you but it's Damian who writes the great songs.
@@winterishere9828 She's more than a backing singer, his songs are not the same with out her, they share the lead vocals.
And God created man and woman and what went wrong good Lord :(
This song for me is all about Hospice
Girl in the cafe...part of hbo movie soundtrack. Amazing!!!
Love this movie. The end credit gets me.
i searched cold water live ( the justin bieber one) and came here
Pity they never reconciled. He from Celbridge and she from Kilcloon.
We all have our insecurities Damien, don't worry about it.
Strange paradox, Damien needs negative states to write his songs and Lisa leaving him has devastated him and made him a greater song writer and an unhappier person, and a better songster and a lonely soul and.......
I am David
The fact that Damien ignored her talents by not mentioning her name as part of the band was absurd.
THE GIRL IN THE CAFE...ONE OF THE MOST POIGNANT MOVIES I'VE EVER SEEN!!!!
Con ese corte se parece a Jesse pikman v:
Shame on Damien for firing Lisa and his band. I get it.. you're sick of your music, but you haven't been the same since.
Damien is a messer and a gowler. Lisa took all the nonsense to serious and jumped ship..
Damien Rice without Lisa is...well...it's just Damien Rice.
Well it’s just a shame 😢 because they were both amazing & it makes me sad 😢
