I'm taking a quick work break and WOW, I love hearing David talking about his martial arts training. He's a consummate seeker of knowledge! David looks great! Keep up the great work and continued blessings to you David Lee.
Your Roth Show has given me a new appreciation of you Sir! Very entertaining! You are an awesome story teller! What I sometimes wonder however is, do you suffer from depression at times Dave? Your energy level and general fun-boy jocundry is inspiring yet, it makes me wonder if the "diamond" is ever dark. : ( Thanks Dave!
Man, I look with great anticipation for a new Roth Show episode almost every single day, Dave. Keep ‘em coming!!! (Some of us wish it was a daily thing!)
I boxed as a kid in the basement of the Fire Station in Marysville Washington. There was about a dozen of us kids. I started right after watching the Ali vs Evangelista fight. A couple years goes by and the teenage years start. I discover a band named Van Halen and a 21 year old girl who was into this 13 year old boy. I discovered many things early on. Thanks for the soundtrack Dave.
ROFL!!! holy shit youre so funny! not getting out of bed for rus!!!! my neighbours must think im nuts! rolling round bed laughing! dave have you always been like this??????? i love you man!
I needed a new heal for my shoe. So I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on ‘em.
Dave, been a fan since '78. Debut record blew my mind, and loved every record until you left. Dig your show, it's great to see and hear you again. If I could hear and see you play "Big Bad Bill (Is Sweet William Now) it would bring a tear to my eye. It really would. : )
Yep 5y of the kyokushin type. Had to to do it after watching the jump music video. Lower lumber rattles around these days but. I could still manage to do 360s until a few years ago....
I did Kenpo, slimming the exaggeration of the art of kung fu and keeping it real...The best thing about Kenpo is the warm up and stretch...It keeps you young and you don't have to be on alert for feets and beats...
I also took Chinese Kenpo was I was in my teens -- my Sensei was friends with founder Ed Parker. The founder of (IKKA) Was about as bad as they get :) Good times!!!
@@Thinksterboomster He was definitely the bad ass they say he was. Had a strong presence in Hollywood for many years. He taught several well known stuntmen at the time. His most famous student of all was Elvis Presley. Who received his black belt from Ed. He was also Elvis Presley's bodyguard toward the end of his career. Very colorful dude...and a great teacher of martial arts. Kenpo is a great blend of the circular movements of Chinese martial arts and the linear movements of Japanese karate. I think it's like 154 self-defense techniques that can be used against an attacker. I remember more focus on strikes than kicks. Not surprising..Ed Parker was taught boxing and judo first. I also took judo first as a little kid :) I had fun learning. This was still a time when there was more respect for the martial arts. And didn't just teach kids to be bullies.
Also took judo as a kid. "The Gentle Way'' 🥋😁 Need to dedicate and episode to Benny "The Jet" Urquidez 👍 Dave learned to throw those kicks around from Benny ;)
Harvey Cowan, originally known as Herschel Savage, mentioned when he went to Hebrew school, a big kid try to pick on his friend, but little did he know that he took Judo lessons, so he threw the bully right across the floor.
If you can find it, see the Marc Marcon interview. I think it was on You Tube, someone sent me a link....so I forget.....but it is a lot more real than the book. I liked that interview.
@@debvs63 If you have not already read it, you might also like Gregg's book Van Halen Rising.....I had not thought about the band in years, was busy running a Foundation for high risk youth, veterans and first responders and surviving cancer and being hit by two drunks racing.......and we were selling our big family mansion and moving to my older son's cabin when he found a box of pictures and negatives, and Gregg had been given our contact info, and asked if we would like to put some in the book. We had published a little book mostly for friends who wanted copies of the pictures....so said sure. I had written Ed about publishing those pictures, even though my lawyer said they are public figures, and the pictures are artistic material of you and your son......I wanted to raise some money for a pilot 48 acre treatment and housing program for veterans and they were going on tour. Gregg's book is a cool history of rock itself........and when I went to the book signing in Pasadena, Ted Templeman came to speak.....he said what Gregg said in the book, that Dave had the marketing genius and the balls to come and talk to Ted and ask what he could do to NOT get replaced as the first album went to press. God bless.
one of my best Van Halen memories it must have been 76 77 then you was the Golden West Ballroom Downey California here I'll set the picture for you Golden West Ballroom had a stage must have been 50 ft wide with several backdrop curtains Dave comes out wearing only black leather boots a black leather Speedo black leather gloves and I believe he was wearing Ray-Bans they opened up with atomic Punk this is a guy that could fill the whole front end of the ballroom with girls all the way across at least fifty deep stage back I'm going to guesstimate there must have been 300 to 350 screaming teenage girls never saw bad Van Halen show
The dog gets on such a regiment sti easily, the exact reason, I shake it up, because they will get you up every on the money, daily. And yes, they will get you up, quickly! I lost mine at 18 last week and he tried hours best the last few years not to have accidents, he almost seemed discouraged to not be able to wait to get to the back door... He's laughing and running and thus the circle go on, cuz now mt grand dogs are pregnant...geeeeez.... timing!

David Lee Roth is the reason I listen to Van Halen. Best frontman.
Ever well ..Alice Cooper.....
S Carter no, Van Halen is why I listen to DAVE !! Yes, greatest frontman ever.
@@James-pw8yl Billion Dollar Babies 🤘✌️
His acrobatics alone when in Van Halen set his stage presence apart from any other band/front man.
