I just came out of Anime Impulse in CA and they were denying drinks and snacks too. Gave me crap for my Kind Bar in my purse and I had to fight back because my dietary restrictions pretty much guarantee I can’t eat their convention food.
They want you to have to pay stupid high prices. It was $4 for a single bottle of water and $15 for a Papa John's personal pizza, not a full one, just a tiny, little 4 slice thing. It's absolutely a rip off
I dunno how the laws are in america, but in Canada you can't really legally prevent someone from bringing in water or snacks... We can even bring them into movie theatres now
Social media posts, $600 dollar table, con-exclusive merch, and a zoom call for this small of a turnout?????? That's atrocious, I've never seen a convention demand so much from their artists and then give back so little.
If you haven't already been going, I HIGHLY recommend tabling at Spokane's Lilac City. The tables are more affordable, BUT competition to get in has increased through the years. You have to watch their page like a hawk and apply for a table the day they announce they're available. Well worth it, though. I don't go to many conventions and have been too chicken to venture up to Seattle, so Lilac City is my go-to.
I was at this con! I am so sorry this con didn’t go well for you! I bought Pokémon stickers while at the event, but it was crazy how far away artist alley was from the table top area where I was working. The artist alley was really tucked away in the corner.
I very much enjoyed your review, I am sorry to hear that it did not go as well as it could have. I know the hurricane that was coming to the east coast could have impacted some of the conventions attendance. Wishing you all the success!
Hi Shooley! I am sorry to hear you didn’t have a great experience at DH ATL. You are right about the event not being catered to artists like comic cons and artist fairs etc. I myself was at the event in the BYOC LAN. We were allowed to bring in food after hours, when the event closed. However, the convention had a policy about outside food and drink. So the cracked down on it starting on the second day. But the water is so stupid. They were suppose to be water stations but they were water fountains by the restrooms. I feel like that was their way of saying, buy food from our vendors so we make more money. Plus it was expensive and awful. ATL isn’t their best event in the US. Dallas has always been the giant one. Also, Twitchcon just happened a few weeks before. That also didn’t help with attendance. I thought you had some very cute art and I loved it. I think you were the only one I purchased from the whole weekend as well. I do make it a priority to walk through and buy something. I hope if you ever decide to go to another Dreamhack, that it will be the much busier Dallas(if it’s not moved since the convention center is doing major construction). Take care Shooley!
Great video! Coming from LA, this was also such an expensive show for me, and it was my lowest-performing show in years. think ill be skipping this one from now on.
Hey i just found your account yesterday and i love your content/art! You genuinely inspired me to try and sell my own stuff in a con. sorry this didnt go well 😢 praying you make a lot more next time! ❤❤❤
Love these videos! They’re so helpful. I’m hoping to start doing conventions this upcoming year. I started doing smaller local markets in July. I’m going to try to stay local to Texas to start, like what you do with the Seattle area.
I'm doing one of my more expensive events in a couple weeks. They have a stamp passport thing that we could sign up for to 'encourage guests to visit your table' and I declined because I didn't want to babysit people for 3 days. And have people doing the activity chasing away potential customers, while draining my introvert battery for no reason.
As someone who lives and tables in ATL, it low-key sucks for Artists overall at conventions here(even the big ones). I don't know what the cultural difference is, but I always advise anyone on the West Coast to avoid it as far as tabling(I have many big AA friends on the West). The profit margins are only viable for those that are local or southeast US. Sorry about your experience!
Loved this video and I loveeeeeee your art so much!! Im sorry the event didnt go that well for you TT hopefully there will be better events coming up for you soon!
I'm so grateful to meet you on Sunday! I was there for DnD stuff but I was so excited you would be there since I had been following you online for so long!!! 😭♥️ thanks for coming to Atlanta and I'm glad I got to purchase and support from you while you came this time! There are a good few ...events like this in Atlanta that has exactly this happen. A big money event, more expensive, yet they don't cater the event and skew the attendees for certain things, skipping over full areas and sections.. 😕 as an artist in ATL I'm luckier for it just being local but for out of state artists it makes it hard to return.. Lastly yes. this event has strict security, other events at the location are definitely not that strict but whoever they hire for security is definitely strict with foods and such.. Anyways , hope you could try attending events like Anime Weekend Atlanta or MOMOCON they both I think fit right up your alley with some insane foot traffic! 🫶
Ahhh thanks so much for stopping by. I didn’t expect to see anyone who knows me there so it really made my day hehe! I’m excited to come back for anime weekend
not allowing water should be a crime?? unless they provided water for all the attendees, that is such a strange rule
I just came out of Anime Impulse in CA and they were denying drinks and snacks too. Gave me crap for my Kind Bar in my purse and I had to fight back because my dietary restrictions pretty much guarantee I can’t eat their convention food.
I agree, not allowing water is ridicules and no I'm paying $6 for one too.
They want you to have to pay stupid high prices. It was $4 for a single bottle of water and $15 for a Papa John's personal pizza, not a full one, just a tiny, little 4 slice thing. It's absolutely a rip off
My fellow artist friend, you didn’t need to throw snacks at me, but I appreciated it 😂 I hope you made all the friends

Good luck!!I really love my local small markets too. Not a lot of effort and I get to see lots of familiar artist friends

its so sad that the turnout was awful.. at least u can be proud of your efforts for connecting with other artists! i love your art

I have heard that there aren't as many cons in southeast that are worth flying for :( It's a good one-off learning experience for me!
Keep going❤❤❤
Thank you :)
THANK YOU FOR SNACKIES I ate all of it at once ❤
❤I aim to have better ones next time 😋
Loved this video and I loveeeeeee your art so much!! Im sorry the event didnt go that well for you TT hopefully there will be better events coming up for you soon!
@@MintyMido thank you 🥹🥹 hopefully I share good news next time
Asking ARTISTS to DONATE to their basement chair con after already paying for a table??
W I L D 😭
The donation is an item for a prize not money sorry :)!
I live in GA and I’ve been to every con except Dream Hack. I’m so sorry about the experience you had. 😢😢
I'll be back in GA for AWA, hoping that goes a lot better :D!! I loved visiting the aquarium T.T.
This business style is worth learning from, but it's just a little tired!
