R.I.P. John Amos {Dec 27th, 1939 - Aug 21st, 2024} - just learned of your passing via social media publishing today, Oct 1st, 2024. May your soul and spirit fly high in the heavens with your friends and family who are already there with you. Say hello to my mother, she watched you all the time before her passing in 2010. Great job - AMAZING WORK you did here on earth, now rest peacefully in heaven in God’s hands!
From Television City in Hollywood...The closing theme was great too...similar but different enough. I love the music, lyrics and incredible vocals (lead and harmony)
This show holds such a great place in my heart. When I was younger, I used to stay up so late just watching this show. Whenever I heard that theme, I knew everything was alright. I watched it for about 18 years every single day and now I’m revisiting it and I’m enjoying it more. Oh, keep those good times coming!
Ha! I was a kid in Australia in the 70's. Good Times was very popular where I grew up. We'd walk around the playground repeating JJ's catchphrase. And I thought it was the same lyric as you did.
Going to be even more synonymous once student loans start up. For some odd 40 million under water basket weavers. Heck even the big banks are tightening up on who they lending to.
Paying child support Goodtimes, just joking. RIP John Amos aka Pop, he was one of the best strong black father on TV and being black and fatherless I always look up to good TV father like him or Al Bundy to fill that void in my life😭.
My favorite show as a kid in the 70's. My dad looked and acted exactly like the father (John Amos) in the early episodes so this show still reminds me of him in those days. We lived in Chicago and he'd drive to Cabrini Green to tell me that's where JJ lives. I think I believed that as a kid.
I'm watching this now and almost crying thinking about how me and my momma used to watch this on the couch. Back in the day was Good Times and even then I still remember every word to this song.
I really miss when shows started with "From Television City in Hollywood!" & "Good Times was recorded in front of a live studio audience!" Rest in peace, John Amos!
@Trump4prisonxxx Mutumbo, James Earl Jones, and John Amos all appeared in Coming 2 America (the modern day sequel not the 80s one) and they’ve all died within less than a month of each other
Why couldn't the cartoon use this music the 70s were groovy bro 🧘🏿♀️a time of peace☮️ and dancing 🕺🏾 while war over-loom in the distance and despit of all that misery, there were always a Good Time to stay strong 💪🏽 ❤️
As a 2000s guy. I had fond memories of this show, the intro never left my mind and now 2024 out of the blue I decided to visit this opening once more (Okay it wasn’t out of the blue. I saw a episode of boondocks “yes season 4” and that one where each time they the freeman say a line of the theme song it would play the last part of the song and this was before I was aware of….. yeah the Netflix show. Seriously what’s wrong with them?)
This was a damn good show. Best theme song ever, in my opinion. I could relate having been raised in a working-class neighborhood of Chicago (mostly Polish and Mexican, though).
Any time you need a payment. Good Times. Any time you need a friend Good Times. Any time you're out from under. Not getting hassled, not getting hustled. Keepin' your head above water, Making a way when you can. Temporary lay offs. Good Times. Easy credit rip offs Good Times. Scratchin' and surviving Good Times. Hangin in a chow line Good Times. Ain't we lucky we got 'em Good Times.
I loved singing the version at the end of the show when I was a kid...that line "watchin the asphalt grOOooOOoww" gave me great joy haha. It came on the same time as Sesame Street, and figuring out which one to watch was a hard call for a 5 year-old
Had to cleanse my soul after seeing that Netflix trailer 😂

Anyone know what this person's talking about?

It wasn't exactly subtle. It made sure everyone got the message.

You mean Northside. Took place in Chicago. Not NY.

i'm 22 but I grew up watching all the good 70s shows. I loveeee Good Times!
As a child of the 80s, this theme song will always be etched in my mind as the music that indicates the end of afternoon cartoons.
R.I.P. Norman Lear.
"not gettin' hassled, not gettin' hustled" - favorite line of the song, omg. Love this show!!
Just a soulful nostalgic sound… you can just reflect on the days when just making it was ok!

This was the most DEPRESSING theme song EVER & they asses had us singin this shit HAPPILY 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I like this show it used to be my favorite I love how the family always loves each other and helps each other no matter what
This song's structure sounds so cheery and uplifting that as a kid I didn't pick up on its soul crushing lyrics.
Going to be even more synonymous once student loans start up. For some odd 40 million under water basket weavers. Heck even the big banks are tightening up on who they lending to.
Exactly
Hearing this song feels like old times. Good, warm childhood memories.
Man we had some great shows in the 70's growing up.
