Thank you... I have been sewing for 70 years and I never knew that... We can learn new things, no matter how old we are... I am nearly 79 and started sewing when I was 8 years old.
Follow femina tailoring you will get new tips and tricks
Who r u? I mean want to know u.😊
Love to read about u what u have mentiond ,and also want to tel my mother was also a great sewer, she had sewed a lot of dresses epcialy for eid for us and sk
He designed the dresses by her own
Almost to all the family she knitted handmade sweaters ,that was hr spciality
Me too😂
I'm like a bunch of ladies here - in my 70's, been sewing all my life, just now learned the right way to use a seam ripper. Good lord! It's never too late!. Thank you ;-)
😅
You are not alone - in age and learning!
those are bots like the ones on facebook that turned 122 years old and made their first cake with peach cream filling and swear that are not AI generated. They are all the same age here and learned thanks to this very video, notice the patern?
Ain't that the truth 😊
I actually knew about this! My great aunt was a seamstress in France during WWII and when she learned I had an interest in sewing as a teen, she would show me all kinds of tricks and tips. 🥰
Nice! You had a good Aunt.
Really what else did she teach you?
What a blessing to have someone like your Aunt in your life. I bet you learned a lot 🤗
@@elizabethc3842 She taught me how to make a tulip skirt without a pattern. 🤷🏻♀️ Does that count? She also showed me how to adjust a paper pattern to fit me.
You learn something new every day! Been sewing 60 plus years, never knew this!
I’m old. I’ve been sewing awhile. I was taught by women who lived through the depression. I never knew until today that the red dot was magical.🧙♂️
Who knew. Thanks for that. As my old dad used to say - ‘Every Day is a School Day.’
I feel so dumb. Doing it wrong for y e a r s
Artı 1 😂
Right? My grandmother taught me how to sew when I was a kid. I’ve been sewing for 30 years and never knew why my seams ripped so horribly.
@@Hannari-xt6nrThat's why they used to call it "picking seams." Get started and then pick the stitches. I do a few at a time, but I don't sew anything likely to cause trauma, like silk chiffon.
I’ve always unpicked seam, stitch by stitch 🤦🏻♀️ This is awesome. Thank you.
Me too! Just so the pointy bit wouldn't poke holes in the fabric! This blew my mind
You are not alone!
THANK YOU SAME
I too😅
I’m a 67 year old man and I love videos like this that give us such practical knowledge.
😊
No textiles teacher or fashion teacher, fashion fabrics taught me this. Neither family.. thank you❤
70 year old male here 🙂Used to make clothes for the kids. I realised that it made for a safe point. But I never realised that it could actually be used in that way.
Guess I'll have to make myself a shirt to celebrate!
Happy celebration!
Bahaha. Me neither.
I love that you made the kids clothes, what a great dad!
I'm sure you have bits and pieces of fabrics on which to practice. Don't do it on a garment! Holes can easily happen, when 'cutting' threads in a seam.
Seriously😮I’ve been sewing for sixty years and come from a family of tailors and seamstresses and was never told about the “secret” of the little red ball. Thank you for sharing.
a taylor taught me how touse a "ham" for steaming clothes.. i bought a stuffed animal that was cheaper than a ham..it works
Rosac122 same words came out of my mouth😮😮😮😮😮
Me too. I have been sewing my own clothes since I was 10. My first job was sewing for 3 years. Even worse it makes so much sense.🙄
It's very sad that you couldn't figure it out in 60 years.
@@SandyL0uise WTF!!!??? can you read? or do you just like being insulting?
Holy cow! I cannot thank you enough! I will now continue with the seam of a coat I started in spring of 2023 and gave up on! 🤗
Oh my word!! I’m 67 and my mother bought my sister and I our own sewing machines when we were 11-12! I have never ever used one of these the RIGHT way in all my life!! Never too late to learn! Thank you!
Great! I had no idea why that red dot is there - actually I never thought about it. Why don't the makers put a little diagram on the pack?Just shows you can always learn something new. Thank you for sharing this tip.
Sehr cool! 🥳
Vielen dank für diesen wertvollen Tipp! 🌷
Good question
that'd be too easy! lol
Thank you so much!!! I’m 71, sewed all my clothes throughout my school years & never learned this! Bless your heart!!!🥰🥰🥰
yeah bless all their hearts... poor thangs
My jaw dropped open as I watched this!! 😮 Been sewing for DECADES and never knew. THANK YOU!!!
I've been sewing since childhood almost 60 years and I've just learned today what the red dot was useful for so thanks for the upload 💞
Taught in 9 th grade sewing class… but grandma knew this and taught me way before that. Great info!
You’re lucky because right now I feel the same way I did the day I learned there was no Santa Claus ..utterly stunned feeling like my life is a lie.
I’ve been sewing since 1 minute ago, and I just learned now the use of that red dot. Thank you
😂😂😂
thank you, I'm 66 and have sewn since I was a teen so for over 50 yrs I've been sewing and never knew that. I appreciate it.
Same here. We had an amazing sewing teacher at Intermediate, and she didn't tell us. And at High School we had a very knowledgeable sewing teacher (who wouldn't let us unpick with a quick unpick in case we cut the material, so we had to use sewing pins), so she didn't know. And I have been sewing for years since then, and am now 66, and never knew until today. Amazing.
OMG. Im in shock! Ive been sewing for 55 years and I never knew this. Thank you. Can't wait to rip something apart to try it!!
@and4all706 - I have to wonder now if the package they came in actually had the instructions to do this. I am totally gonna have to check next time I am at the fabric store. Also just saw a video by Madame Sew and using it this way can actually rip the fabric also the same way as using it ball side up, but not as likely to.
Me too. Grrrr.
It's very sad that you couldn't figure it out in 55 years.
@@SandyL0uise just stop. I don't need your rude insults. There are many others here saying similar things. I thought it was funny. It must be horrible to have nothing to say except things that ruin another person's day. I hope it comes back on you threefold. Enjoy your mission in life to bring everyone down. Just stay away from me with your mean attitude. Maybe I'll get some people together to return the dark words back to you.
lol goes to show we never stop learning. Even masters of a craft
After decades of sewing and using a seam ripper and reading sewing books, learned something new! Thank you!

I'm 46 years old and only learned how to use a sewing machine 3 years ago. I never knew about this. Thank you for pointing out such a great sewing tip and solving the mystery of the red dot for me. 😀
For the past several years I had many queries regarding the use of seam ripper but I was hesitant to ask anyone. Today you gave me the complete knowledge. Thank you.
Wow! No one ever taught me that in all these 50+ years of sewimg! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
That's brilliant! The moment you got all the props in place - 1 + 1 = 2! and everything made sense. Thank you so much for educating me.
Thank you, I’ve been seeing for 50 years and didn’t know that trick. 👏👏👏
You are a genius! Thank you. I would've NEVER thought this was the correct way to do it!!!!!!!!!!! ❤
I figured that one out years ago when I really really needed to and got my project done on time. The red thing is truly magical.
I’m 72 and they never taught that in home economics. Thank you for sharing. Have a wonderful day!
I am 60, and they did not teach me that in home economics. But my mother did. Do they have that class anymore?
Home ec was where I learned to sew in 7th grade. They don’t have this anymore. And cooking. Those big rooms with kitchens. 1972. I’m 67. I always say that Sewing and cooking classes stayed with me my whole life and is a reason why I love both
@@debbiemartin2026 I was in Montana when I went through Home Economics, and you are right, those rooms were very large. I different area for a sewing area too.
@@robinsnest7627 we had two seperate rooms. The sewing room was much smaller of course. I can remember all 4 things we made that year.
1. Velvetta Mac and cheese
2. French Toast
3. Grilled cheese sandwiches
4. Spaghetti sauce.
All right before “women’s liberation” ruined it for women (and gave them TWO FULL TIME jobs!!)and made it seem like an inferior “job” to be a mother and take care of the home.
I know because I became a physician and had a very hard time doing it all. My husband a physician too with long late hours.
So I can now say that a woman’s place should be in the home and take care of kids. We would not have the problems we do with kids today.
Who is raising our kids today??
So what exactly does the little red ball do?? I had Home Ec in Junior High and High School and learned to sew and I loved it! We also baked peanut butter cookies and cooked .
Ooo teriii mere pass kbse ye tool h btt shi treeka aj malum hua ise kse use krte h 🙈🙈🙈😛😛😛😁😁😁😁😁tysm btane k liye 🙏🏻🙏🏻good job 👏👏👏👏
agreed! I am 77, still sewing and we learn new things all the time! Thank you!
Been sewing for ever so long, but just learnt something new. Thank you.
Mind. Blown! I've always used it to remove seams one stitch at a time to keep the point from poking holes! This was so cool!
Oh okay! My life of seam ripping has suddenly become so much easier now that I know the correct way to go about it. Thank you so much!
If I ever wrote a book about my small bits of sewing experience, "My Life of Seam Ripping" would be a good title for it!
Something so small, yet exciting and helpful! Thank you!!
Thank you, you just made my life a whole lot easier! Looks like there are a lot of us that were clueless about the red dot thingy.
Thanks for this!!! Amazing to learn after so many years of sewing.

Thank you! I also have been sewing for over 50 years and have learned a valuable lesson.
Wow, I had no idea! Thank you! I've been sewing all my life, not only my own clothes but also household items and I didn't know what that red ball was for. Subscribed; can't wait to see what other tips I don't know about!
Thanks for that little drop of wisdom! I grew up sewing and quilting with my mom and grandmother, and took sewing classes in school, and I never learned this! Can’t wait to find a seam and put it to the test! 😂
Thank you! I love finding out that the simplest tools in our everyday lives have the most brilliant forethought and engineering! I will correctly use this next time!

The home ec teacher and Dritz didn't tell us this! So good to know.
Glad you showed us!!! I never knew and poked through material at times no matter how careful!!! YAY!!!!😊
Amazing...74.4 years. Made first apron in 8th grade Home-Ec...just now learned what that red ball was for. Thanks....and to think when making dresses Mrs. Ball did not even tell us when she required ripping something out.

Fantástico nunca imaginei. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾Vou cortando ponto a ponto
I knew about this but have never tried using it like you showed! I still pretty much did it one or two at a time and lifted it before pushing forward. Thank you!
Omg after all these years someone figured it out lol. Thank you so much for sharing
😲😲how did I not know this ,45 years of sewing, totally astounded, thankyou for enlightening us ❤❤❤
Thank you so much. I have used a seam ripper for years, but was always in fear of cut into the fabric so unpick each stitch. Now you have shown the correct way to use the seam ripper it is so much quicker. I can't thank you enough.

😱😱😱Que fácil ..algo así..😅 Gracias..por el tip..!!👌🏻🙏🏻🙋🏻🙆🏻😁😘
I only recently learned to do this a couple years ago. I don’t see a lot but I repair and mend and hem things and knowing this way of using the seam ripper is sooo much better!!
Marvellous, after many years of using this tool I did not realise I was using it the wrong way.
