    I usually avoid watching longer videos, because many people tend to explain for too long, why I'm watching this video, which makes me mad.
    Not yours! They not only great, they really explain (not too slow and not too fast) and show a lot of helpful things.
    And again here. My patience was rewarded, at 6:15 I realised what my mistake was, that it didn't work yet. Thanks a lot !!!

      Keep in mind that you'll remember the ones you use often. And if you don't use it often, then do you really need it to be a shortcut at all?

    I’ve had an interesting problem. I was setting the function keys for the finder. Here, you have to know all of the functions you want to set beforehand. When I tried setting the keys, it had problems when one of them was a service I wrote with Automator. It wouldn’t hold a lot of my settings.
    Without that service, if I tried closing the settings window, then adding another function key later, all of my previous settings are lost.
    It would remember all of the menu options just not the function key assignments I gave them.

      The menu item is in the Apple Menu and it is simply "Sleep." But note that you can simply hold the Touch ID button for 1.5 seconds and your Mac will lock. Then, your Lock Screen settings determine how long until the Display Sleeps after that.

Some of my stacks have thousands of files in them and it's virtually impossible to re-stack it because they completely fill the screen and I can't find that little down arrow. If you want a back button like to go back to a previous webpage can that be assigned to JUST one button for instance the FN/Globe button? I know the shortcut is “command then either bracket or command back arrow” but I wanted to just hit one button to trigger the action instead of 2 buttons

    • @macmost
      @macmost  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use an F-key for that. But you can't assign a modifier key as a single-key shortcut. Doing so would take away all of the other functionality of that key, some of which is needed.

    Hi Gary, thanks for sharing this tips. I was wondering if you had the solution for text menu that contains special characters ? My MacOS is in french and I do want to create a custom shortcut for Powerpoint on inserting an image from file in french the name is "Image à partir d'un fichier…" so there is an "à", which is a special character. • @macmost

      Just figured it out.
      With the window option in safari just include the option you want not the full path so for me the Pin Tab worked, while Window Pin Tab did not. I guess that has something to do with the way apple handles shortcuts in safari. Btw. it's the same for developer settings. Just include the option not the full path.
      For reference if someone else encounters the same problem so they can find the answer more easily.
      Arrange Tabs By
      Show Previous Tab
      Show Next Tab
      Go to Previous Tab Group Go to Next Tab Group

      @@djr3386 You can clarify which submenu you want the shortcut to refer to by using "->" between menus. For example, if you want to create a shortcut to clean up by Date Created, you would type "View->Clean Up By->Date Created" in the menu title box. That will specify which submenu you are trying to reference. Just make sure that you don't have any spaces between menus. "View -> Clean Up By -> Date Created" won't work, since there are spaces. It's got to be "View->Clean Up By->Date Created".

    • @macmost
      @macmost  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure what you are asking here. Note "right click" is for a context menu, which means there must be context. You right click *something* on the screen. So keyboard shortcuts aren't useful there. But many things in the Menu Bar use the content of what is selected, like Edit, Copy will copy selected text. So it really depends on what you are trying to do, specifically.

    Hello! Thank you for the video! It really helped me to setup a just right hotkey couple of times.
    Meanwhile, I'm currently in search of a way to assign actions to my mouse's extra buttons. I have a Logitech MX518 Legendary mouse and it has extra back and forward buttons on the side. These two work as intended in Chrome but they don't do anything in Safari. So I want to assign Back and Forward hotkeys to them but I have no idea how. In Windows there's a name for all the mouse buttons - mouse1 is a left one, mouse2 is a second one, mouse3 is a scroll wheel and any extra buttons are just mouse4, mouse5 etc.
    Maybe you know, how to assign something to such extra mouse buttons in MacOS?

Been happy with most shortcuts I've created, but one problem, Globe + C gives you Control Center, but with a third party keyboard, there's no way to map fn over the globe in the settings. Then also the fact that when you trigger Control Center, the arrow keys doesn't work in it so it sucks. I've send a feature request on this one. Hopefully they'll be interested to make some changes.

      Would be tough to implement though. System Settings would have to reach into other apps, examine their code, and determine if the key combination was in use. But there are many ways that an app can activate keyboard shortcuts dynamically so it wouldn't always be able to tell.
