I have never been to America, but I always wanted to live there, it is really sad to see the country you always dreamed of living in falling apart (I know it is even sadder for the people living there). Honestly, I feel like I am more patriotic and respect America more than most Americans. I grew up in South Africa and luckily last year I managed to move to the UK. While UK has a better quality of life than SA by far, I feel like I gave up so much freedom to be here, everything is government regulated, I can't even choose my doctor, the government chooses that for me. I actually am contemplating going back to South Africa just so I can have my freedom back, yeah my chances of getting carjacked, my house broken into or even being murdered goes up a huge amount. America, don't give up your freedom. I know a lot of South Africans give up their freedom for safety, but I know just as many that give up that safety to get their freedom back. You are pretty safe there (well unless you are in a bad area) and you have freedom, you have both, I don't think there are other countries that have that luxury.
One of our founding fathers once said that those who are willing to sacrifice civil liberties for temporary safety deserve neither and shall have none. It seems as if you understand this immensely. I support your decision to go back to South Africa wholeheartedly.
